PICK ONE. Take 2 oz of it, add 1/4 oz vermouth.

If it is vodka, you can shake it or stir, but shaking it just makes it weaker than stirring it (James Bond was a girl). If it is gin, you can only stir. NEVER SHAKE GIN.
