I skate and i wear Vans. I don't see how they are ugly at all though. Obviously they are super thin which makes for good board feel, but aesthetically they are nice as well.

Got some low top white and hi-liter yellow AF-1's for $60, didn't fid out until like 3 years later when they were trashed that they are limited edition and sell for upwards of $200 new. Also scored some all purple Dunks for $50. Outlet stores are the business.
