What`s the top clothing line of 2010-2011

I am looking for your feedback on what you think is the best ski apperal from jackets, pants, gloves, hats and bandanas. What brands have the best prices and what brands are the best.
 
SAGA isn't waterproof, yes its like 20K which is pretty good but not "waterproof"

once you get into the 3 layer eVent and Gore-tex or Gore-Tex pro's is when phrase's like "top of the line" or "best of the best" can start being used. Saga is just a really heavy jacket that is designed to look good, keep you warm, and kinda dry.

Companies like Arc'teryx, Stotic, Norrana, and Westcomb, make the serious riders gear, SUPER LIGHT WEIGHT, i just got a pair of Westcomb touring pants with full leg vents, and it weighs NOTHING, but its 3 layer eVent meaning its insanely waterproof, but also breaths.

This is a good source to get an idea of how much more quality control goes into Gore-tex and eVent.

but yeah, alot of companies like Armada are featuring eVent in some of their products. Armada did that this year with Inverse. I have this jacket and so far I LOVE IT!!! i haven't used in a skiing setting yet, but from wearing it around, and in the rain ITS GREAT!! Armada is also doing the tracer, which doesn't use "eVent" name brand, but i've been talking with Tyson Hall, and he said its the exact same thing.

i have last years and i found it to be quite water proof and i live in the north west. but i do agreee that there is way better options if you are just looking for "waterproofing"
 
Just because it's 3L doesn't necessarily mean it's good, plus they put a hanging lining in the 3L stuff. And ratings are a load of bullshit a lot of the time - some companies don't test it for 24 hours like you're supposed to when determining the number. I'd like to know how long Saga test for. Don't get me wrong their stuff looks nice and I own the original pants they did but the quality on those isn't up to scratch with most stuff that costs half the price.
 
that is also true, testing differently is retarded, and it really pisses me off to why anyone would want to. Like you said the rating is based off a 24 hour rating.

But yeah, you could have 3L layer fleece and that wont mean it waterproof, plus i Googled their "Saga 3Layer Rip-Blok 20k+ shell fabric", shit doesn't really exist, maybe as a private company selling exclusively to saga, which is very likely, but the down side is that they have no website for questions to find how they test their clothing.
 
I'd be pretty certain it's just a generic 3L fabric that their factory in China or wherever could supply in nice colors, no way does Saga have the budget for R&D on original fabric. Feel free to correct me.

I doubt most peopel who wear Saga care about the tech stuff. For sure I'd still wear it for park in dry-ish conditions though.
 
1. Don't wear a bandana it makes you look like a tool. Depending on what color your goggles are get an Airblaster balaclava.

2. Orage is the best "good looking" jacket meterial wise. (This years Casabon is fucking amazing... it's down on the inside for puff.)

3. If you want a waterproof pant get touring pants. Colors are simple but who cares.

4. Style wise if I didn't care so much about meterial I would get first drop's line this year... (XLT is 42 in. I'm 6' 2 and it's below my knees.)

5. Glove wise... if you ski park get joystick gloves. If you ski BC get (It pains me to say) Grenade gloves.

6. Always stay tall and wear a helmet... (It really isn't that hard to find stickers.)

2. armada used eVent last year in the galactic jacket, which was pretty sick looking and much better then any orage shit

3. good looking is in the eye of the beholder, i personally love the way some HH jackets look, and they are way more tech then orage/saga

and to the people saying saga is waterproof, yeah, its not. last years was garbage, and even though they are switching to a 3l, its still not gonna be great. face it, your not gonna get a good 3l jacket for under 400, its just the way life is
 
you know goretex makes different levels of fabric, its not just goretex..... i couldnt watch the video but they probably compared it with older entry level goretex.

there is

proshell -ultra lightweight and breathabilty

performance shell- step down

xcr- step down

pac lite- ultimate in breathability and packability

softshell- soft, waterproof and breathable

and all goretex has 10 year waterproofness guarantee cant say that for e-vent

also i have read that the event breaks down quicker. because it lacks properties that goretex has. weather or not someone makes better or comparable fabric to goretex shouldnt matter, since goretex invented the game 30 years ago.

also im sure saga does not test their own fabrics, fabrics come with a guaranteed h20 proof rating, and a marketable h20 proof rating. 3 layer is better because your h20 proof membrane is protected from abrasion and also a liner would only make it less packable and more comfortable.

Galactic jacket is short as fuck, but amazing techically, and looks dope. But that kid a major tard because grenade gloves are shit, absolute shit. Not warm, ugly (somtimes) but they are cheap. If you want nice gloves, I had armada checkered gloves last year which were amazing, warm and amazing dexterity. Also kombi makes good shit and hestra (some models) are very nice but pricy.
 
Sorry I don't know much about waterprofing but does that mean next years saga will be better or their 3L 20k can be bullshit?
 
i never said eVent was better, yes gore-tex has a different materials, but isn't the standard and the pro the most common in today's clothing?

And the reason gore-tex has such a great rep, and better warranty is because they have been in the game longer (like you said), gore-tex (if im not mistaken) was originally intended for military applications, and once they realized it was such a good product, it went public.

In all honesty i have no preference for either material, they both before great, and both have their positives and negatives, but in the end, they both keep you dry, and both are insanely expensive,

And whats really lame about the H2O rating, is there is not standard of how its done, everyone tests it differently, so its hard to know what the actual waterproof-ness of the fabric.

Anyways im sure i left something out, and GHSTRCN will be flying in soon to make me look like an idiot, and he'll look like a douche bag.

really? damn. Got saga this year because i thought i would be pretty waterproof with the new 3L. I hope they stepped it up this year.
 
sorry to thread jack, but would saga's 3 layer be safer to wash that a 2L? I never wash my jackets to keep them at maximum waterproofness but I want the white jacket and would like to be able to wash it when it gets dirty.

Also I wore my saga last year almost everyday of the winter in every condition possibly and never got wet. I think part of this is cause huge sizing makes it much harder for snow to get underneath anything, but even when it's blizzarding and 34 degrees I didnt get wet. I've only skied at one mountain so perhaps weather is much gnarlier everywhere else but I cant imagine why anyone would need more waterproofing than 20k 2L unless they were staying out all night or skiing for 8 hours in a row.
 
Washing your jacket correctly replenishes the water repellent coating. Follow the care label.
 
how should we know what's the best when the stuff isn't even out yet! But when it comes to the price i'd still say SAGA (quality improve - same good price)

I've got a full Norrona suit, used to have a saga suit, and there is NO way to better describe the quality difference than awesome. The jacket and pants zip together, full gore-tex. On pow days, I'm fucking invincible. There's nothing better than staying completely dry on deep pow days, and in the rain.

There's not a chance I will ever consider any other outerwear, other than tight pants, to purchase other than gore-tex, and from a high quality company like Norrona. Yea, I look euro and tech as fuck, but I'm also dry and warm.
 
I really think that First Drop is the best this year because of their style and thats all that really matters to me...weight, waterproofing and breathability is useless here on the east coast cuz i never skiied powder
