i know the 1080s kick ass for jumps, but what about rails and powder? i like both but i dont want to jib the fuck out of em' if they wont hold up or anything.

 
nope,not even that^ they are all foam, and they will just combust in a big cloud of black smoke. DO NOT GET 1080s! there are some many other skis, youd be retarded to buy them. dont even get me started.

heres the deal with the 1080. salomon is a masssive corperation, and they care about one thing: profit. so, in order to increase profit, they build EVERY SINGLE ski out of foam. theire 'spaceframe technology' is pretty much a way to make a foam core ski that still rides decently. (the shape of the topsheet and fiberglass creates more ridgidity). however, you still pay 500 for a ski that cost 50 bucks less to manufacture. but becuase all of the strenght of the ski is in composite materials, you get a ski that brakes down very fast. plus, they have super thin edges, rip bindings out easier, and just dont preform to the same level as everything else. plus, EVERYONE has them.

oh yeah, notice all of thier origional riders are gone? all they have left is Mike D, pete O, candide, and a few others.

yea, dude rode the 1080's for a season and a half, they held up throuhg alot of abuse but now they are shit. do some research then make your decision, don't go for the mass production go for what best fits you

 
yeah yeah yeah. 1080's are horrible. i would much rather buy one of these new skis from these new no name companies. Because im am sure that 1 year of r&d in these new companies is MUCH better than the many years behind the 1080. Besides, im sure most of you were still shitting in diapers when the 1080 first came out..go to hell

i know a kid who had 1080s and the foam started to rot or something so when he stepped on the ski he kinda sunk in.

 
1080's kick ass, u all suck any ski is gonna become shit after a year of abuse in park, but back to the orriginal question. i can use mine in pretty much anything

 
They are a good ski for most applications, kinda bounce around in the crud...well really bounce around in the crud. They are great in the park since they are pretty light. The edges dont hold up well and the foam gets pretty sloppy after a yr of use. If you ski a lot of park and groomers and prefer a light ski, the 1080 will do.

i actually wonder how many people here have ridden 1080's for at least a year and know that they get mushy....and yeah they're great outside the park bc no other company has the knowledge salomon has about skiing......does armada or 4frnt have a team of the best racers in the world to ensure sidecuts and general skiing properties are good.....ahh no not that racing's cool or anything

well, they're good for actually skiing better than pretty much any other twin tip on the market if you're a light person. i'ave had mine for almost 2 seasons. yeah, they are beat. the ski got significatnly softer, my edges are cracked. when i get them sharpened though, they still ski better than any other twintip i have skiied. maybe thats why you pay just as much as a woodcore ski. even though they break down like any other foam core ski, they still actually ski well.
