Whenever I see this guys photography he kinda puts a real weird tone on it, is anyone aware of what it is? It kinda makes it look, dull? green? like a photo from 1930's? anyway. Thought someone may know.. Anyone?

it looks like the vibrance is taken out a tad and added a little split tone, blue shadows and a little yellow highlights

Meh.. Looks more like he just balanced for a warmer flash, then added a little green/took out red. I feel like more digital shadows tend to have a cool tint to them on their own.

OP post more photos and well let you know.

dude you even think he's got a gel on there at all? I don't even think the first one had a warm gel on even. It looks all post to me, and you're right, it looks like some hipster baloney.

It just seems to me he's colour correcting to the same weakened colour scheme in each, and kind of ignoring the whole... composition side of photography...

Well the vibrance is brought down a whole lot in the original shot, but heres what I think he is doing.

Shoots photo with a warmer (yellow) gelled flash, then pushes midtones to green, and pushes shadows bluer.

The couch shot almost looks like he gelled green, but based off the other two, and the work required to change gels, Id say just edited green in post.

Either way, they are still just a bunch of hipster bar shots. I mean really.. there is a leather jacket in every shot.

No I do actually think he is using a gel but I may be wrong. Look at shot number 2, we all know flashes put out white light, and can overpower/wash out skin tones. Now to get their skin tones close to true, you could either gel, or change your camera WB. If you change to camera WB, it affects all the other colors, so in this case everything in the photo should have a warmer tint, but I'm not seeing that. I also don't think he split toned to get their skin (highlight) to be warmer, if you check the fridge highlight directly to the right of his neck and his shirt, they are pretty much white. Not a yellowish cast you would get from split toning.

not that i care. but i'll trust you. i do so much in post that it's hard for me to tell any difference
