I'm getting a phone for Christmas and it has to work with AT&T.

The few that look cool so far are:

Iphone

Fuze

Tilt

Epix

Eternity (looks pretty rad)

Quickfire

Vu

A lot of the higher end Nokia phones look really sick too, anyone know how they are?

Any other recommendations would be really helpful here. I don't know what to really look for in a phone, I just have an old basic phone that works, but some of the new ones seem like they can do some cool shit so I might as well get one right?

Internet would be sick, a decent camera, email, music, NS, maybe a full keyboard? Are keyboards useful and good or are they just a hassle on a phone?

Anyway I'll keep looking around but if anyone knows anything about any of the phones I listed post up please. Especially if you have bad news about a certain phone, I don't want to end up getting a shitty phone. I want it to last a while.

Id say its an easy choice, iPhone. Have had one since they came out, 3G now, and it just keeps getting better and better. Find me another phone that will alert me when im approaching a speed trap, play my SNES games and control my desktop. The app support easily covers for any hardware it lacks, and its only 200 dollars. Bad part is my phone bill is like 90 bucks 8/~

I have a Sony Ericsson 580i, its been good so far. Got the 8 gb chip so it holds just as many songs as the standard iphone, for half the price. Its got a 2 mp camera on it, which is just as good as the iphone. If cost isn't a factor though I'd say go iphone though.

I'm the kind of person that destroys cell phones, so I didn't want something that I'd cry over if I wrecked it. Its got enough cool features, its small, and I don't have to worry about getting jacked like with an iphone.

ok the solution here is easy.....IPHONE!
I've had mine for over a year now, and it has been great! The phone is unbelievably easy to use, and it is soooooo productive. The touch screen works amazing! THe fact is that if they ever feel they need to change anything or make it better, all you do is hok it up to your comp. to get the new update. That is a feature that most people overlook, but it saves you from buying a new phone. Another thing that you wont appreciate until you get an iphone, is the application store......dude its fucking amazing. just get one already!

ok heres a solution, buy the cheapest phone you can. Better yet, get the phone that comes for free wiht the plan. Cell phones don't matter and the cheaper ones are more durable anyways

My friend has the tilt, I was using it for a couple hours last night and really enjoyed it. The keyboard on it nicer compared then to my pantech c 810.

Nah, I've had a cheap phone for a while. I take care of my stuff anyway, I'm not going to lose it or break it or anything, I want a nice phone with a lot of features. It looks like the iphone is the winner here but I'm still looking for other opinions on the phones I listed, or other nice phones that will make life a little easier. GPS is a huge factor for me cause I get lost a lot. I live on an island (it's a big island, 75,000 people) and when I leave I get lost easily, fucking islands....

So anyway, I want the phone with the best features, Ill go look at some more reviews and check some other stuff out. How does the iphone compare to other phones like it?

I have the Blackjack II. I love it. Does everything you want and is highly customizable. I find new things for it each week. Like last night I was looking for a way to rearrange my home screen and found a program that does that, another one that displays weather on my homescreen along with 10 day forecast and shows me how much memory I'm using at any given second. I'm getting bluetooth headphones soon which will enable me to control everything by voice including music, messages, calls and internet explorer. I already can but bluetooth will make it completely hands free. I'm now waiting for firefox to come out with a mobile version.

Wrong

At least not for me

I have the iphone, got it this summer and love it so much. the ipod feature means you can sell your old ipod. GPS & maps gives you directioins anywhere. Get the OrbLive app, if your computer has a tv tuner, you can watch live tv anywhere, best app ever! weather anywhere, facebook, youtube, tv listings, snow reports, radio, files, im. Texting is way better, it looks like an IM. Videos look amazing full screen. Oh ya, its a phone too, and it doesnt have the annoying voicemail system, its more like email. Dont underestimate the power of having the internet everywhere, and the iphone browser is way better than on other cell phones. Plus, wifi is good. Oh dont forget about awesome games.

Bad things:

Batery isnt too good (its actually better than most phones, its just that the phone is so powerful, it sucks down the bat)

No video camera (searously??)

Newschoolers doesnt work (well)

iphone is amazing, it changed my life

Yep, i love my blackjack2. The epix is the blackjack 3 i think, i mean they look exactly the same. don't take my word on that though

I'm reading that the iphone got the worst reviews of all the phones I listed, but I think that's just cause lot of people are retarded and some just don't like apple. I have a brand new macbook too so maybe an iphone will be able to do even more cause I have a mac, is this true at all?

Anyone know anything about the google phone, the G1 or android or whatever it is?

Damn, these plans with internet and all the goodies fuck you over. And of course it's impossible to get an estimate without a ton of info I don't have.

Fuck cell phone companies, they are as bad or worse than insurance companies. Makes me sick.

Hands down, the iPhone. my dad got one, and there are soooo many apps and browsing options... and then the software updates make it so it never gets old!

I dont know where you read your reviews. I can only guess that a more popular phone is more likely to generate hate or something. Personally ive never met anyone displeased with their iphone, except right after the 3G came out. If the reviews are from that time period I can definitely see it because it was a piece of shit. Half of your calls would be dropped it wasnt/isnt unlockable, and there were just a ton of fucking problems, but that stuff has been worked out. Oh and having a mac wont make a bit of difference. The thing to think about is that the iPhone's features are driven by 3rd party support. A huge number of people have iPhones so more companies will invest money into building useful apps. The iPhone a year ago isnt even comparable to the iPhone after OS 2.0, even if you were jailbreaking your phone~

I have to assume you think its lame for a phone to change his lifestyle, which is really not the same thing as what he said. Saying it changed his life doesnt necessarily imply a major shift in activities~

youre right, im just pissed off because im working on my final paper of the term and all my friends are partying right now

Nokia is great. I have one right now and it is bomb proof. They have good service and they are a much better value. If you can wait for another month or two, they are coming out with that new Nokia that looks better than an iPhone. On that list, I would get the iPhone.

just heard on the news today, walmarts going to start carreing iPhones after christmas for 99 dollars.

false lie... while walmart is getting the iphone it was rumored to be a 4 gig that would cost 99 dollars.. but they are not they are getting the regular iphone that is what i heard today on G4tv...

i've heard that the new iphones dont have that good of battery? (somebody above me said it) but i have the gen 1 and i use the shit outta my phone for like 2.5 days before i have to recharge it

You said you wanted GPS on a phone, but I don't think that the iPhone has turn-by-turn GPS, rendering that function nearly useless and a hassle to use. Other than that, it's a pretty solid phone. I personally am a blackberry fan and would rather go for the Storm over the iPhone, especially with the new software that just came out, or maybe a Bold. If you do alot of emailing then having a real qwerty keyboard is way better than a touchscreen, no matter what anyone says. You might be fine on a touchscreen for short emails or a short text or whatever but if you are trying to type a couple hundred word email a touchscreen is terrible. If you're looking for a more business oriented phone a blackberry is the way to go.

WHAT?? How do you have the speed trap app and play SNES?? I must know immediately.

But hands down there is no beating the iPhone

The iphone actually does have turn by turn GPS, it does take a second for it to lock on, but after that it works very well and has saved my but on numerous occaisons (I fail at city streets). Also the landscape keyboard (sideways) makes it very easy to type long emails. It does take some getting used to, but at this point im just as fast with touchscreen as with a BB keyboard.

In regards to the SNES app, your iphone must be jailbroken, trapster however can be found on the appstore~

Last I heard the iPhone used cell towers instead of actual satellite based GPS. I tried to google some info but all I found was TomTom trying to make an app and not having it approved by apple. If you can show me the link that would be sweet. Otherwise, cell-tower based GPS is terrible and not easy to use at all.

I know the landscape keyboard takes some getting used to, but if you don't want to pay for MobileMe (I think you still have to pay right?) you won't get push Email, the ability for MMS and you can't say typing out 20-30 emails with hundreds of words is easier on a landscape touchscreen over a physical qwerty. A couple might be comparable but not overall. Like I said before, if you are more business oriented, then a blackberry is a better choice. If you want a more media related device go with an iPhone, it really depends what you want to use them for. I wouldn't definitively say that one is better than the other.

Everyone has push email after 2.0, and although the GPS is cell tower/wifi based, it works very well, shows all of my movement and turns when im driving~

couple mistakes there

the iphone 3g does use gps when available, but if your like indoors and cant get reception, it uses wifi and cell towers to determine your location less acurately. The first iphone just uses cell towers

I actually really like the iphone keyboard, but thats just me

Push email isnt that big a deal unless you are using it for buisness, and in that case you probably use exchange in which you do get push. I think there are websites that let you set up push email for the iphone for free, but i dont care that much. And theres no MMS at all

Of course a physical keyboard is easier, but i think that the extra screen space makes up for the lack of a keyboard.
