I like the fact that Newschool skiing is relatively unknown and that snowboarding is viewed as much cooler than skiing. Sure when you tell people you dont sound cool, but when you show people what you can do on skis their gonna be far more impressed. i just love skiing fakie past a load of bennys who have never seen twintips before, or past a group of newbie snowboarders.

when people ask me why my skis have two tips i go down the closest run and do it fakie (from reading the pep thread i guess it is the correct termenology.) and they just stare. people also wonder why skiers go into the park and say that we shouldn't be in there.

Im glad people do that. cause if the skiing stereotype was like snowboarding's, then we would have a bunch of bitches who just do it to be cool and don't really care about the sport, and the industry would turn into that of skateboardings or snowboardings. Im glad skiing is smaller than those two, because people aren't gonna judge you and think "oh they're just skiing cause its the cool thing right now"

i just tell them i am a freeride skier, that i can do the same "tricks" as snowboarders, then they stare at me blankly or understand depending on the person

people dont realize how hard freestyle skiing is.. all they think about is how snowboarding is so cool. I have tried snowboarding and theres nothing cool about it. People that snowboard tell me its harder than skiing. From my experience in both.. they are just as hard.

i think snowboarding is harder to learn, but easy as hell to be great at. skiing is easy to learn, but takes a shitload of ability to have some skill.

 
the first time i boarded i bord slip a rainbowbox and did a 3 it was so funny because theres a kid i ride with that boards and he cant do that stuff and he goes like every day in the winter

I had a girl in my class tell me that I should switch to snowboarding, then she asked why I ski.

I said, simply, "because it's fun."

Does there need to be any other reason? I say I ski, I don't say "I ski but I'm not really a skier, more of a snowboarder with two planks", because I'm not, I'm a skier, and if people don't recognize that I hit a jump and slide a rail every once in a while, then that's alright with me because it doesn't affect me at all.

About the mainstream thing, I honestly don't want newschool skiing to turn into a mainstream sport because I don't want to see soccer moms and 50 year old men stomping into a pair of Armadas because they think it's cool. That'd just kill it.

another things that skiing has which is awsome is that when you see a kid in the park with twin tips chances is they are decent, becuase all the people who stuck with skiing were good at skiing and saw theres more to doing than what is cool. And lots of the people who were just trend chasers mostly switched to snowboarding to look cool. Do get me wrong some snowboarders kill it, but you find allot more shitty snowboarders with a nice board and expensive jacket, than you find shitty skiers with twins.

Now when most people find out that ski they normally ask me, do you have twins? or cna you do a 360.. Because people are slowly starting to descover the newschool skiing.

But honestly I like being uncool and being different soit doesnt matter what other people think. As long as you tear it up.

WEEEEEAK, guys who freestyle ski are hotttt (oh yea 4 ts) plus there are so many snowboarders that flaunt it and cant do half of what they say aka a lot of posers
 
i always say im a freeskier, some times even newschool skier. i liek to say it to be like "unique" like all these guys are like so do u snowboard then i tell them im a freestyle skier and there like wat? u mean those stupid little skis. and i have to explain there longer skis and have two tips and you can go backwards and hit jumps nad rails. adn most people are like thats cool. very few are interseted though. i dono its my way of not being the average kid seeing how all boys in the winter snowboard or snowblade now instead of skiing kus they think skiings weird. so i like to tell them about the cool way of skiing

i live in a winter sports utopia where snowboarders and skiers live peacfuly beside each other united by love of the SAME sport. every one has twintips even old telemarkers despite the absence of a real park. skiers get just as much if not more respect than snowboarders. and punk ass little bastards get out of our way!

its called the kootnays and it also has arguably the best snow in the world.
 
I don't say anything. I just jump in the air, do a Flatspin 5, and then I say, I do that, off a big jump, with skis on. Not really, but that would get the point across.
 
I usally say i fs ski and there like fs skiing whats that and i explain, but sometimes i just give up if im tryin to pick up and just tell gurls i snowboard, not like there gonna leave american eagle long enough to come check out if im tellin the truth anyways haha
 
haha my roomate is a surfer from LBI on new jersey coast, and he totally respects the skier steeze, and its true, we smoke way more than the boarders, in fact my roomies twin brother, also a surfer, is in here rollin a fatass L right now. represent freeski styleee.
 
Here, if you say you ski people know what you're talking about, obviously riding powder and jumping cliffs. It's a respectabal thing here.
 
everyone at my school knows that I ski so I never really have that problem except for when Im in a shop or something.
