What others rate you?

7.14

It used to be like 7.8 until I made a political thread. And I didn't even say anything bad....

proposing a question (not thread jacking)

do you care what others rate you, not asking in a rude way, just wondering?

even though i know like .02% of NS it still hurts a little...(sniff sniff)

I take it as it is.

If it was low, I would grin smugly, knowing I pissed someone off enough for them to click a little minus sign near my name.

If it was high, I would grin smugly, knowing that my words were enough for someone to click a little plus sign near my name.

Hmm... I reported a 6.36 within this thread.

At time of this writing, I am sitting at a 6.34.

*grinning smugly*

I hope I hit that bastard where it counts.

5.33/10

If you really care about your rating then you are an idiot. People who are generally nice and contribute good post deserve karma. If someone doesnt agree with me oh well I dont give them 0/10 for that. They deserve there own opinion, unles it is an insult to me. Karma is just a made up number that some people think makes them the king of ns or the loser. The highly regarded members on here do not care about karma, they just enjoy contributing to the site. Everybody should do this.

I do. I really think that most times my posts are positive contributions. I never post inflammatory remarks, only useful ideas (imo). So when I create a thread calling B.O. a liar (which he is) even though I voted for the guy, people -karma me. For no reason if they would read the thread past me calling him a lieing sack of shit.

I've noticed people only tend to give karma when I give them something. I can post a something really useful with links and pictures and all that fun stuff and my karma will bump a little if at all. If I post a download link and album art, my karma will go up quite a bit.

I think I take karma a little too much to heart considering my score is very legit. It's not from uploading 200 pictures or anything.

for making me laugh, im shooting to get you back that .02 you lost. grin smugly

mine is 5.36. it was in the sevens, then something i said pissed somebody off, and it was in the threes, and now, plain old average. yippi

shit can i venture a guess?

how about you

just kidding i don't really know you but i guess im trying to hard to be witty

i gave everyone in this thread 0 karma because its about what others rate you

i dont think any of this post made sense but i dont care 0 karma for all!!!!!!!!!

Granted, however, a large portion of members here are 14 year old boys, so karma rating is not really a valid determination of one's character.

Not to mention how uploading pictures/videos gives crap posters boatloads of karma. I think the system is flawed when people care about it so much. It can be useful, but a lot of the time, you know whos a good poster or a bad poster without having to look at their karma rating.

I made a thread in which I asked for NS's help in participating in a survey about steroid use in MLB and I told any karma sluts to fuck off on account of the fact that I find "karma" threads obnoxious...In other words, I was looking for people who simply wanted to take a minute to help me out— without asking for something in return. What a concept...
Well, those fuckers care so much about the imaginary number adjacent to their name that they attempted to sabotage my survey. hahahahaha Also, it's always the kids with a couple hundred posts who haven't quite "figured out" NS who actually believe that karma means something or actually represents someone's popularity/worth.
It never ceases to amaze me how few people actually understand what contributes to karma...here's a hint: What other members rate you is a SMALL contributor.

Billek, you are totally right.

But, I don't give zeros for disagreeing or arguing with me.

I give zeros for not doing your research and arguing with me about common knowledge, common sense, or stuff that I know you are wrong about because of past expertise.

If you present a good argument with solid points, actual information, real facts, and *at least* decent grammar, I will Karma you up.

If you just get pissy when I tell you in a structured argument that your wrong, I Karma you down.

Worst of all, if you make controversial statements with no backup at all, I karma you down. For the record, I mean controversial not necessarily in the modern sense, but something that is not commonly accepted as common knowledge, or something that I cannot confirm or deny without further research.

An example of the above statement would go as follows: "Macs suck!"

However, there are some exceptions to that last one. For example, if someone asks how to get to chad's from the bottom of alta and you say ski patrol blew it up, that's OK with me. No explanation necessary, it's fine.

I did lower your K for that Obama thread, but not because I didn't agree, or anything like that. Because your poor spelling in the thread name made me mad. I'm sorry, I've been indoctrinated that spelling is extremely important.

So, I will raise your K back up to 8 (where it was before, don't ask why, I wouldn't know) if you promise to remember that lying is spelled L-Y-I-N-G and not L-I-E-I-N-G. Sorry for being a dick, but poor spelling really does leave an impression on others.

Haha totally. I usually try quite hard to spell things right. Lying, huh. Not a word I spell to often. Lying.

6.58
It was around 8.6, then I went through a phase where I didn't give a shit about other people's feelings at all. It went down. I started voicing my own opinions (not in an obnoxious offensive unbased way as far as I know) and obviously it went down. Every thread that I post an opinion that can be taken in more than one way, the karma drops.
If I help someone it doesn't often go up, so I know that the system is definitely off a little. People seem to find it easier to "punish" someone for disagreeing than "reward" them for being a good member. Like giving karma for posting porn passwords? Or for having a funny icon? Or a funny name? Not worthy of karma in my opinion, but in others' eyes that's all that matters.
So basically what I'm getting at is that each person's karma rating isn't really reflective of who the person is or how good a person they are, so it shouldn't be something that people care about. Just something to be noted to know how people on NS think.

hahaha more opinion expressing leaves me at a 7.32 for the end of the day...i'm gonna go back to not caring about karma

Exactly right.
Karma definitely measures "something" but the overall quality of a particular member, is not that "something".
+k for an excellent post.

Dont worry about it, good posting and contributions will make it go up.

And the best part about being a mod is seeing what members have rated other members.
