Hey NS.. I am currently in the market for a new full suspension mountain bike and I was wondering what you guys would choose and why. And if you have any suggestions, throw 'em up! I currently have a GT Avalanche 3.0. Disc Hardtail Mountain Bike.

-rough trail riding

-downhill

-mellow trips with my parents

Here are the bikes:

(no particular order)

1. Diamondback Sortie - $1400-$1700

2. Trek Fuel EX 5 - $1869

3. GT Sensor 4.0 - $1670

Well what do you guys think?

Check out the Cannondale Jekyll, there's a series of bikes similar to it but I'm to lazy to look them up. Extremely versatile and super fun to ride, might not be price point however. I would look into buying used, it will open up a ton of new options.

What is your basis for this statement? Diamondback has stepped there game up significantly in the last few years and now make great bikes with amazing value.

Of the three bikes he listed, the Sortie would be the top of my list. Don't knock em' till you ride em'.

Find a Diamondback Skyliner if you can. It is technically a slopestyle bike, but you can build em' up to be an awesome trail bike.

I personally would recommend the Santa Cruz Bronson... 650B is the shit on trail bikes. Feels exactly like a 26 but you gain the ability to carry a ton more speed. Definitely is a solid all around shredding bike!

They are all very similar bikes. Everyone is going to have a certain preference of what they like/what they don't like about each one. I would scope each one out and in the end, just go with the one at the shop that treated you the best. I work at a specialized dealer and go to yearly presentations from our rep about feature propaganda. Every company is going to have their own little features that make them seem different or better than other companies, but really aren't. When it comes to high end bikes, any bike that is dressed up with with similar components is going to feel the same.

The biggest difference will be the rear suspension setup. I never understood GT's design using the dog bone attatchment at the bottom, and the whole thing is just heavy and bulky. Despite this, i did ride one last week and it has a nice ride quality if your not afraid of some extra grams. The Trek's rear suspension setup will be lighter but not soak up the small stuff as well. And i'm not 100% familiar with the Diamondback, maybe they have stepped their game up, but all the Diamondback repairs we get just scare me away.

Just my .02, though somewhat ambiguous

And don't hate on me saying each will feel the same. Obviously different frames will ride differently. I'm just saying if any bike is dressed up with high end components, it will feel for the most part like a high end bike.
