As I said the majority of illegals come from the border regions as well as the poorest state of Michoacan. Central America and South America make up less than 10% of Hispanics in the US. And more often than not (especially for South Americans), they're here legally.

You seem to also miss the part where I say I support expanding legal immigration from Latin American countries, while putting a complete stop to illegal immigration. If I was a racist wouldn't I want all Mexicans kept out?

 
Historical examples abound of people of all walks of life being conscripted to express points of view that don't seem to make sense given their backgrounds. It doesn't matter who you are or who your best friends are, or where you've been in your life, and suggesting that those things somehow alter the content of your argument is inherently fallacious. All that makes a difference here is the views you express, and yes, they are surreptitiously racist, and that thinly-veiled quality makes them dangerous. That doesn't mean that you really hate people of a certain background, or want to keep them all out of your country. Apparently you're nowhere near astute enough to understand the implications of your own words, so I could hardly express enough faith in you to accuse you of that based on a few posts on an internet forum. That would be a compliment to your intellect that you've done nothing to show you deserve. However, my original post with regard to what you HAVE said stands. It is racist, and nothing you've just said contradicts anything in the preceding post, except this:

This is fundamentally wrong on the simple basis that white people as a group are not at risk of political marginalization, since we control the system. The racial aspect is in fact precisely what differentiates the two phrases. That "Mexican Trash" you refer to is at a distinct disadvantage from the get-go in terms of representation and financial backing and the language barrier, and are therefore one of society's most vulnerable groups when it comes to political will militating against them and pushing them into a realm where they effectively lose equal status. The mainstream legitimization of attitudes you're putting forward are a significant step in that direction, and the only decent thing to do when they're expressed is to say "your opinion is deplorable and I think less of you for holding it". People seem to think that hedging these viewpoints by saying "now I have some mexican friends" or "I don't think this represents ALL mexicans" somehow removes the sting, and so nothing is said and hate is allowed to propogate itself. But it's not okay, and something should be said: you ought to be ashamed of yourself, and yes, so far as that's concerned, your ethnic background is kind of relevant.

As far as your whiny little personal attacks on me, do you think perhaps that the reason I "scout out" US political threads is because I'm interested in the US political arena? By the way, I quoted "scout out" there directly from your post. I'd like to know where the "intellectually superior" and "pwn a noob" quotes came from in yours, because I don't recall ever having said either, nor mention that I can ban people, nor that mods' opinions are more worthwhile (exhibit a: papasteeze), nor that I'm an expert, nor than I have a poli sci degree; I'm actually taking law. But that's fine, no one could have expected you to get any of that right at this point, so no apology necessary. It would be more appropriate to apologize for any offense taken by a member of the mexican community, though, and I invite you to do so in arenas where you've spewed this trash before.

Any thoughts on the hidden anti-obama vote? I had some interesting conversations today and ironically and coincidently, the race issue is rearing its head.

I think the "hidden anti-Obama vote" is something that can't be

assessed until it's all said and done in November, but it worries me in

Florida. Not so much in Ohio. But who knows what role it'll play, maybe

it'll just come out in states he would've lost anyway.

I also think that while you can kill anyone, as they say, assassinating a president in this day and age is as close to impossible as makes no odds. I would lay a pretty weighted bet that he'll live out his term.

I'll just end this argument by restating what I wrote before. There's nothing racist about wanting to enforce your country's immigration laws. Expand legal immigration, stop illegal immigration. Allow members of the hard-working, ethical Mexican population in, keep the trash out.

I want immigrants from Mexico Central America to be able to come over

here legally. Its necessary that we start keeping track of who is

coming in and out of this country. Keep track of who has a criminal

record and who does not. Encourage those who come over here legally to

learn English and assimilate into US society, rather than form a

separate society within a society. Prevent employers from paying

illegals under the table and cheating the system out of tax dollars, while lining their pockets by exploiting those who are too afraid to stand up for themselves.

That's a massive oversimplification that ignores everything written on the subject by ethicists regarding developmental moral personhood. There are plenty of legitimate "in between" positions... You are in some sense right in saying that his position implies it's okay to kill innocents in defense of the bodily integrity of a rape victim, but some people (JJ Thompson for example) put forward a case made by analogy that that's actually not all that objectionable a view. I think abortion is a legitimate debate, though I am pro-choice. I really hope technology solves the problem eventually, though touchy feelings on the subject have and will no doubt continue to weigh down scientific progress.
 
He's saying that if you think getting an abortion is murdering a child, it makes no sense to say "but where the child was created by rape, it's okay to murder them". Which it doesn't, but it depends on your views on when a fetus can be attributed moral personhood to the extent that it warrants the protection of society, to put it in an extremely crude way.

I assume when you say this your talking about the Induced Infant Liability Act, something he voted "present" (not for or against) on, not because he wants to abort born babies, but because the wording of the bill may have forced doctors to attemt to revive aborted babies born waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay earlier than that.

it wasnt working? we had a much better relationship up until about 8 years ago. the minute he entered office people knew one of his plans was to go into iraq. needless to say they werent psyched. bush didnt want to talk he wanted to invade, and nothing was gonna stop that. THAT is a large portion of why they hate us. am i saying they are gonna love us? no, but perhaps not hate us anymore.

or better yet find other sources of energy! but to a degree i agree thats better than dependance on foreign oil. im fine with offshore drilling, but i dont want to see it in alaska personally.
 
because we have been raping the shit out of our natural resources for decades. the united states uses 25% of the worlds oil. we cant come close to getting this much out of Alaska. what we need to do it find alternative forms of energy. we will ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO find new forms in 20 years. so why not start now?

There are some small reserves in the US. Mostly natural gas. There is also oil in the form of oil shale or Bitumen in Colorado and Utah that some people think is around 1 trillion barrels. But there is no way to get it out of the ground economically right meow.

None of the people running know shit about the petroleum industry and I am talking about Palin too. Bull shit she knows what she is talking about.

Here is the deal. There is not enough domestic oil for this country EVER to be 100% energy efficient. However middle eastern oil contributes about 15-20% of our supply. We could stop that. But the real problem is that their massive reserves control the price.

I work in the oil and gas industry and I know that things are going to change. We need to develop alternative energy technology. Shit if everyone in America put a solar panel on their house energy crisis solved. Room temperature metal is not very efficient at conducting electricity the energy saved from even a low energy source on your roof is insane.

I could also see cars switching to CNG but that gets us into the same problem as oil and it is hard to transport and store.

Seriously, politics are not totally black and white. If you don't agree with a yes or a no vote then a present vote is the only way to stand up for what you believe in.
