this has to do with guantanamo bay prisoners, im not sure on the percentage but the majority of them are terrorists. If taking away their rights to investigate them, and to keep me safe from any acts of terrorism then so be it. The main goal of the government is to keep the citizens of the country safe.

it does seem a little strange to be able to graduate from columbia, have a $12,000 job for a couple years, then go to harvard law school.

unless his "rich white grandparents" set up a college fund, or he got full rides, or some secret muslim society is funding the biggest conspiracy known to mankind, then shouldn't he be swimming in debt? i would like to know a little more about this, if anyone has an knowledge of his fiscal history.

dude she was on the board of trustees or something, that position is held by people that give money to the hospital not take money from it. my grandmother is on the board at a hospital she gives like 100 grand a year to it. First of all, I'm from California, so I feel the "brunt" of this whole immigration wave thing coming in...

Whenever I've gone down to Tijuana, or Mexicali, or Tecate, in Baja California (Not Baja California Norte.. nobody calls it Norte.. ever..) I've had a great time. Sure, the people are typically poor, but shit.. its the same as almost every other part of mexico I've been to.. Mexico City, Mazatlan, Cabo, Guadaljara... I've never been to Cancun, but I'd imagine it would be very similar to any Mexican resort city with high american influence, and be very much like Cabo San Lucas or Puerto Vallarta.

I have stayed in the best hotels, and some of the worst. I have DRANK THAT WATER... There are good parts of mexico, and bad parts... saying that the boarder towns in the north are full of Mexican trash is the most retarded thing you can ever say.. the country has a corrupt government, and a huuge differentiation between rich and poor.

I have had a great time in Mexico... In all parts of the country... Just because all the people dont live in endless suburbs in fake houses, driving fake cars doesnt mean they are trash...

maybe she wasnt a trustee but she was something else that is not supposed to receive any money from the hospital but she did. look it up its in the news search google for it. on a side note i dont understand why you care so much JD you live in canada right? the usa does effect canada somewhat but why dont you just worry about canada a little more than the US. maybe start a thread about canadian politics or something.
 
btw JD you were right though they can be receive pay from the hospital but somehow she went from being payed $120,000 a year to $316,000. 120 was in 2004 before he took senate office 2005 he took office and her salary doubled. i dont know how that works but it just doesnt make sense in my head. then again a lot of things dont make sense to me. if you can explain that, that would be awesome!
 
There are any number of reasons compensation packages can rise, and they operate on essentially the same basis as salaries. That it doesn't "look good" to someone superficially glancing over the numbers makes it perfect fodder for cheap political stunts: the more dramatic something is, and the more you have to do your research to really understand what's going on (no one wants to do research, that takes effort), the better it will play with empty vessels at rallies, regardless of what side you're on. For example, the BC Liberal party (which oddly enough is actually our conservative party and aren't liberal at all... go figure) recently raised bureaucratic salaries for people in government, which have basically doubled in the last couple of years. On the surface that just looks like they gave themselves big pay hikes, so everyone got upset about it. Realistically though, the increase was matched to compete with salaries for similar jobs in other provinces. If you aren't willing to raise the pay rate to compete, the really good labour is going to go to those who pay more. It's just common sense, in any context.

As for your other post, I doubt you'd be telling me to go post somewhere else if I didn't disagree with you. Silencing dissenting opinions... doesn't sound very American, now does it? I care about the US elections because they're crucial to what happens to the world (it hasn't just been US financial institutions collapsing lately, you might have noticed) and there is a real question as to which direction the country will go in after January. Up here, it's pretty much business as usual in the political sphere. I don't think the Conservatives will get their majority government, nor do I think the Liberals and NDP will be able to form a coalition government. Status quo. Next election, once Michael Ignatieff takes over the reigns, will be a lot more interesting.
 
i just dont understand how here pay almost doubled in 1 year and i believe she was a vice president or something and also the PR person for the hospital. none of the other VP's of the hospital got a raise like that.
