So after seeing countless threads ragging on mccain and palin, i came up with a few things that obama is all about, maybe it will change some of ur minds on voting for him, maybe not? I just thought id share some of this with u. Try not to make any arguements, just read it and post ur opinions, and lemme know if it has changed ur mind at all

-voted no on notifying parents of minors who get out of state abortions. personally im against abortions all together, but if i had a daughter and she went and got an abortion and i wasnt notified about it, i would not be happy about that.

-supports affirmative action in colleges and governments quotas. IMO, affrimative action was great for minorities a while back, but cmon now, i really dont think its necessary to give them advantages anymore, whatever happened to us being all equal?

-says he will deal with street level drug dealing at a minimum wage affair.

-admitted to his use of marijuana and cocaine in both highschool and college

- his religious views seem very sketchy, and seems like hes hiding something (which most if not all politicians do hide certain things)

- says after being elected his first goal would be to meet with all muslim nations....why?

- opposes the patriot act

- voted to allow lawsuits against gun manufacturers

- supports universal healthcare

- voted yes on providing habeas corpus for Guantanamo prisoners

- supports granting drivers liscense to ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!? is that serious?

- supports extending welfare to ILLGEAL IMMIGRANTS!? i dont want my hard earned money going to anyone trying to take advantage of our countries system

- voted yes on comprehensive immigration reform

- voted yes on allowing ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS to participate in social security

- opposed to any efforts to privatize social security and instead, supports incrasing the amount of tax paid into Soc. Sec. yes, he wants to increase taxes

- voted no on repealing the alternative minimum tax which now hits the middle income brackets, another tax increase

- wants to raise the capital gains tax, another tax increase

as for religion, it should be left out of the white house all together IMO, separation of church and state, so we dont know how that will factor in, though it doesn't seem he brings a whole lot of religion into his politics (McCain historically hasn't really either, though he's using it as a campaign tool now, gotta get those votes i guess)

There's plenty about Obama to criticize. However, this has to be the most poorly thought-out attack I've read on here...Are you saying you want a president who is untruthful about his past, is against immigration reform, supports the patriot act fully, and wants to DENY habeas corpus rights?? How can you call yourself an American and want to deny habeas corpus? Denying habeas corpus undermines (read: destroys) the legitimacy of our entire system.
 
Like the person who posted above...NSers have a comeback for everything you say about Obama. It doesn't matter what it is. This post will get flamed, along with the thread. You just can't question ANYTHING about Barack Obama on this site. It's ridiculous.

You can support a candidate while simultaneously questioning things they support, or their record. I'm voting for Mccain but it's not like I agree with everything he's ever voted on. I'm willing to admit there are places where his views differ from mine. Obama followers should be able to question their own candidate rather than be so defensive.
 
Almost everything you posted aside from the illegal immigrant issues are reasons why I want to vote for him.

As far as abortions go, I believe its the woman's right to have the option. Who am I to say that she can't? Its not my body. On the specific note of not telling parents about them, if they're 18 or over there's no reason for a parent to know.

Affirmative action is still very necessary in certain parts of the country in my opinion, as there is still a lot of prejudice. Of course, you can't only implement this to one area of the country, so it's better nationwide than not at all.

Admitting to drug use just shows that he's not afraid to admit things he views as mistakes in my mind. George W. Bush did cocaine, but never publicly acknowledged it. It's not a big deal, really. People make choices.

He most likely wants to meet with Muslim nations because they are generally the countries largely opposed to the U.S.

Opposes the Patriot Act, good! That document is completely against constitutional rights and is ridiculous. The fact that it passed is beyond me.

You just listed the reasons why i'm voting for him haha. Wow this country is polarized. If you think those are bad things obviously you shouldn't vote for him! I think they're good things so I'm going to.

No, no. You can definitely disagree with some things about Obama and question some of his policies. But the things originally posted are ridiculous, as freezed pointed out. If this had been about McCain I'm sure you and skiminnesota would be all over it saying the exact same things.
 
It hardly has anything to do with Obama. I'll "flame" anyone who thinks suspending habeas corpus is a good thing.
 
Your rebuttal was fine and thought out. I agree that there are better things to argue about when it comes to obama than what was posted.

I was referring to the TONS of people on this site that just immediately become defensive without any logical arguments.

im not tyrign to flame him, i guess i just dont agree with any of his polocies, and liek i said i didnt want to make this into arguements, u all are trying to defend him soo much, im just pointing out reasons why i dont want to vote for him....the majority of this site is for obama, i didnt think ppl would like this thread, all everyone has done so far is repeated what i said, and said "yeah so what?" i guess my little thread didnt really do what i wanted it to, sorry guys chill out.

Why wouldn't I/we defend him? Almost half the things you said were universally good anyways.. But still, if you want to criticize him, I have the right to defend. Same goes vice versa.
 
All i have to say is i can't fucking wait for all these fucking TV commercials to be done! The voice-overs in them are so annoying. I'm voting for obama because i feel like i can relate to him more. Mccain seems more like someone who i would go visit in a retirement home...
 
name one policy of his that you are familiar with and disagree with, using some sort of intelligent answer, because honestly it sounds like you're saying you don't like him but with no actual prior knowledge of him, and that you are basing your logic on some third party source of information that is swaying your vote

Why? It's her body, and her choice, and most importantly - her life. Parents are there to GUIDE and HELP a kid grow up to be a responsible adult, not to control every aspect of their lives.

Normally I would agree, but unfortunately the ideal is different than the reality. Affirmative action makes campuses more diverse. End of story.

Nobody's perfect. Marijuana isn't that big a deal. In fact, I think more politicians SHOULD smoke marijuana. Most importantly, it's a rare case of HONESTY IN POLITICS. How often do you see that? Never. McCain probably did too, but you don't see him admitting to it. +5 for Obama.

Normally I'd agree that domestic issues should be placed at a higher priority than international ones, but this is different. Our image and reputation in the ME is extremely valuable to the continued health of our nation. It needs to be repaired as soon as possible.

Privatizing social security is a good idea, so I agree with your first point, but he only wants to increase taxes for people earning over $250,000. Fuck those people, they've gotten tax breaks for eight years now and they're not even the ones who need it...

I think it is kind of sad that everyone on this site will actually destroy karma (some kids really do care about it and take it seriously) and attack anyone who expresses an opinion they don't like. Any "I hate John McCain thread" will be glorified to no end, but when this guy says "This is what I don't like", he gets destroyed.

I think it's based on what you think of the person, not necessarily their political preference. I don't think a person's character is limited to their political preference.

I live in California.. and 20% of our economy or something is driven by immigrants from Mexico. California is like the 7th or 8th largest economy in the world.. so that speaks for itself.

None of them have ever taken a job from me, thats for sure. In fact, the only latinos that I'm ever annoyed about are the Chileans who come up during the winter and take all the liftie/resort jobs in Tahoe. They are here on work visas. It's kinda annoying, because there are plenty of guys in Tahoe who could use that job.. even if it is pretty scummy. Then again, I dont know the statistics for that, and I'm positive a lot of Americans head down and take over NZ, Aus, and the South American resorts during their winter anyway.. so, its fair game.

 
I agree the healthcare system needs to be fixed, but I don't think universal healthcare is the way to do it, especially right now. The government is taking on massive debt, taxpayers are already going to be responsible for recouping at least some of that loss, and universal healthcare is a gigantic expense. I don't see how the middle class can avoid a tax hike if we go that route, in the end it's going to cost people a fair amount of change anyways and the quality of healthcare in a universal system is almost inevitably going to decline. I also just don't like the idea of expanding government, I think it should be cut back if anything. Giving the government control over healthcare is pretty big, if we aren't socialist now we would be if we did that.

I haven't lived in a universal healthcare system before, so this is all speculative, but... I don't see how it can be beneficial apart from the obvious liberal motive to hold everyone's hand.
 
Never did i say anything about any of them taking jobs from anyone.....what I said was pretty clear. It doesn't seem logical for people who don't pay taxes and who aren't even citizens of our country to be receiving money that we paid in taxes for welfare. I never said anything about stopping them from getting in or complain about them being here at all. There entitled to their money they earn by working. Your comments about Americans going to NZ to ski has no relevance to anything.
 
there is just so many things wrong with the first post... where to start. 1)whats wrong with trying drugs in college? do you expect your president to be some other worldly superhuman who has never made any mistake in his life? 2)socialized healthcare would be great for this country. 3) why do you care if he is not religous/not christian? do you think he'll try and get the country to pray to allah 5 times a day? 4) and as for the abortions, do you think a 15 year old girl who is raped by her father should be sent to jail/juvy for getting an abortion?

And you're probably a pretentious douchebag who makes completely arbitrary judgments of people he knows less than nothing about. I haven't had health insurance for a year and a half, I get it back in a few weeks because I'm back in school but I've been there, and my "mommy" made it painfully clear how much it would fuck shit up if I got injured skiing or longboarding. I didn't even get injured and it still sucked, my parents helped lighten the load but I spent disgusting amounts of money on contacts, check-ups, etc.

I'm also realistic. If the options are 1) Keep healthcare the way it is and 2) Adopt universal healthcare, then obviously that's what we have to do. I understand that healthcare is outrageously expensive (the cheapest quote I got when I looked for myself once I lost coverage under my parents was $455/month), and I also understand that families can't afford to go without it. But those aren't the only two options. There are alternatives, and being narrow enough to think otherwise is idiotic and self-defeating. Given that our economy is already right on the verge of explosive collapse, don't you think it might be a good idea to at least explore other options before hanging the massive deadweight of universal healthcare around its neck? Don't talk shit when you don't know shit.

what does me having to be white have to do with any of this? but i guess u could say life is good, im in college (received a scholarship for grades) i took out a student loan to help pay for the rest becuase i didnt get a full scholarship. I went to public school all my life. While i am not in school i do work and have a job and make money to support my wants. I dont see why u r singling me out for this haha...i simply posted obama's views on things as stupid as many of them might seem to ppl in here, they r his views...i just listed them and wanna see how u react to them.
