What now, Canada?

I hate to be a dick, but remember when everyone was talking shit on the U.S. dollar when the Canadian dollar reached parity and then outpaced our currency? Well, it turns out the Canadian export economy is tied almost entirely to the fact that its currency is supposed to be inferior to the dollar, and therefore exported resources are cheaper for U.S. producers than buying domestically in the states. Additionally, the tourism and consumer sales industries are taking a big hit because it's not as cheap to go to Canada or buy from Canadian retailers online any more. The early numbers indicate that the Canadian economy loses 3-4 billion dollars for every CENT that the Canadian dollar gains against the U.S. dollar, and the prime minister has even declared this sudden shift in the exchange rate a "troubling, troubling time" for the Canadian economy. So even though the dollar sucks right now and I can't really afford to travel, I'm still getting a pretty good laugh about this, especially considering how many Canadian kids were giving us crap after their dollar reached parity.

Pretty ironic that your dollar has to be shitty in order for your economy to run smoothly.

American media doesnt even know what a GDP growth is. our economy is still growing. The american GDP is at a stall and a little in recession. The candian dollar nor the prices are affected by the economy, but by investing. My economy course is far, but I remember that the dollar and the economy has no ties, although a good indacator.

Yes, its BS that Canadian business dont want to lower prices

You want to find me where Harper ever said its a troubling time?

The only reason there was a big fuss raised about it is because tis never happened before. Everyone knows that at some point it wil go back down. The nature of our economy being tied to our cheap exports is true. So dont get sore at everyone going nuts about it bud.

Sorry I can't hear you from way up here with my good ol canadian dollar.....you're gonna have to yell louder.

I'm not getting the info from the TV news, so don't worry about it. And I knew you guys wouldn't take this post lying down, so I'll try to dig up the source on the quote.

hahahahaha, that's wicked.

Also, so long as you guys down south need oil (and it seems you can't get enough of it) our dollar is going to do well. Also China has a need for shitloads of oil and raw materials, all of which bodes well for us. I do see a bit of a downturn, because the US economy will recover, it always does, but the days of the 70 cent dollar are long over. Get used to parity.

Oh and Ontario can go fuck itself. You could have seen this coming years ago, no one did anything about it, so they can deal with it.

the canadian dollar is going down again. I believe it's 1.01 USD to 1 CD, where it was 1.08 to 1 about a month ago. I figure the USD will be above the CD by the end of the year with these trends.

things in canada are so goddamn expensive either way you put it

retailers are such adouchebags.....

i cant afford anything
