What makes an edit good?

Something that is not only good skiing but really fun to watch, you don't want to bore people to death with it.

Have steady shots, good slo mo, and good skiers.

Also pick a good song, not something that will make someone want to cut their nuts off (i.e. Adele)

Speaking of edits here's my newest:

Straight Bossness; Right There from Kent Barron on Vimeo.

(ENJOY AND WATCH IN HD!)

No dubstep, no slow mo(unless the skiers are real good), lifestyle shots, the rider talking (like yelling and stuff no narratives, snowboarders/skiers, just making it fun and not trying to be overly epic.

Old school rock, funky music or hard rap depending on the riders style.

Oh and, good skiers

I would post this in media & arts if you want better and more serious answers, but personally for me I can't stand an edit if the angles and composition of every shot are generic and boring. Another big thing to me is that it has something that is creative to set it apart or make it different, something that sets the mood or vibe and isn't just a few crappy GoPro shot of your friends sliding a rail.

But Idk, I'm not super into making video so take that with a grain a salt

Not taking yourself too seriously, pushing an agenda or trying to get the most hits on YouTube. Shit is still shit, no matter how many times you color correct it

Watch a lot of edits and see which parts you like and what you don't like.

My favorite edits are ones with more creativity, but that's a broad term. More specifically, shots that other edits don't have. If something funny happens at the mountain or on the way up, incorporate it. If you come up with a good idea for a theme, those are always a lot of fun to watch, but don't make a themed edit just for the sake of it.

Most important thing: take the extra time to get great shots, not just decent shots. Come home with and SD card full of stuff that you're stoked to get on the web. Great shots are a lot more fun to work with when you're sitting behind your computer later.

good skiers

good vibe

variety of tricks/angles/

gnarly crashes

good song(dont steal one)

originality

and dont over do it with the editing

Essentially the skiing however the music, filming, colour balance, and of course the skiing

Don't use a song that's been used in an edit before, don't use dubstep, make sure you color correct, mute the clips if you want to, don't use to much slowmo, and good skiing usually helps.

If you want an edit that you will be showing all of your friends and posting up on youtube then whatever you and your friends thing is funny or interesting along side with your skiing will make it good. However if you are making the edit to promote someone then Having smooth creative shots is a must and you need to try hard not to overuse anything and be original.
