i couldn't think of another way to phrase the topic, but anywho: mine would ahve to go back to my race days. We had our own sperate building near the lodge for the racers, it had a small TV and one day another racer brought in a video. It was the promotional for the 2001(i think) Line skis. It wasn't long but i watched it soooo many times. That's when i realized how cool this sport was. Sadly i didn't quit racing at that time

I saw snowboarders in the terraine park doing stuff, and Iw as like hey that looks cool, but I didn't know how to snowboard, so I did it on skis, and then realized skiing is better than snowboarding

 
I just remember skiing with my brother and his friends who are really good skiers. I just tried to hold my own with them (i cant, but thats beside the point)

I was looking for websites about my hill and I saw one that was for the newschool team there. So I visit there and find out about here and I watched them in the park...now I love the park.

There were these two kids that I skied with and had gone to school with since I was in Kindergarden, and I was always a couple of years behind them on skis as they just skied so much more. And then when they started to really get into big spins and stuff even at little old SNOW VALLEY, I was so impressed that I knew I had to be able to get that point. Sadly enough im still 2 years behind them, but o well. That's what got me into it.

Seth Morrison. saw him in a warren miller movie way long ago, shit my pants, and then went and jumped off some cliffs. Seth kept me skiing because he opened a new window to what was going on in skiing and then i just bought a Freeze and Powder magazine, read those over and over, bought some ski movies and now im obsessed.

i just started skiing backwards and then it led on from there i didn't even know about any skiing community, but i saw the park and knew it was possible, it opened me up to the best community i know now though...

I happened to be in Mt. Ste Anne skiing with a friend, and on our trip to the convenience store to get booze, I came across the first ever issue of Freeskier Magazine. It had a big article on how to get sponsored, and a section on all the 'new grabs' that were coming out at the time. We read it 1000000 times, then went to the park the next day and tried most of them.

PJ Cliche: Total skate influence. Even doh dis is on concrete, an you are face sideways, an it has sweet fuck all to do with ski, skate 'as play a huge role wit my steeze.
 
I took the bait when I was like 12 and I was flipping through the channels and I came to ESPN and all it took was watching JP Auclair throw a sweetass trick in the x-games for the first ever ski big-air the x-games had. It was back in the days when the Canadian Air Force was still rockin out and JP was skiing the old Salomon 1080s in yellow. I was completely hooked from then on.

i saw 'pura vida' and fell in love with that movie when i was about...12 i think. that was cool and all but it was mostly big mountain and seth morrison doin 3's and 7's. but the next season 'sick sense' came out and that introduced the new canadian air force. holy shit i was so amazed i knew thats what i wanted to do, and i quit racing and have been freestylin ever since...

I've always been crazy into skiing but back in the day I was starting to get kind of tired of pencil threes and spread eagles and the like. I was on the verge of switching over to snowboarding when I saw what the mind blowing stuff that the New Canadian Air force was doing and the first teneighty came out. From that moment there was never any doubt for me as to what I wanted to do on the hill.

i remember reading through skiing in like 98 when i was like 10 or so and saw an article for freeze, and this was like the same time johnny mosely did the 3 mute and i picked up an issue of freeze, and was down with it from then on...... i had always skiied double blacks and dropped small cliffs but that got me into the park..... we owe so much to like jp and jf and vinnie to our sport---- its just crazy how much we progressed.... look at big air videos from the 98 x games and ppl are throwin ugly almost aerialist tricks..... now fastforward now and were so much more stylee than snowboarders

Blindblinds and I just skied for fun until we took the 'freestyle' lesson at our local club. Incedentally, the lesson was coached by Doug Bishop himself, the legend of Ontario, and every year since we have been progressing in the park. I got my first pair of twin tips at the biginning of last season. Crazy stuff man.

Before new school I was down with all the twister-spread crap. I eventually started doing backflips and tried 720's but ended up 540's... thinking that was totally wrong. Then I saw Moseley on the tube at Nagano and the rest is history from there. I also remember Cusson doing a switch 720 at the x-games... things have progressed a shit load since then. damn.

I don't ever think that there was ever a definite point. When I really started to enjoy skiing I was like nine that was ten years ago, I just loved jumping. When I was eleven Kimberly had there first terrain park for snowboarders only but we ducked the rope and hit the jumps any way when the ski patrol wasn't around. It was just so much fun. A few years later i saw a guy do a three on skis for the first time and i thought that was the coolest thing ever. The first time i was really opened up to freesking was when I picked my first issue of Powder the 1999 photo annual and was totally blown away. Since then my entire life has changed and I love it.

This year I hope to see more kids incorporating newschool with big mountain riding and getting out of the park.-Matt Levintal

i saw ski movie and I was blown away. it was like all the cool parts of warren miller for the whole movie. then I saw propaganda the same year and it blew away ski movie. propaganda changed my life. Its still one of my favorite movies. I love jon olson's 'fuck authority' part. that segment will always stand out for me.

Well At first I was watching all the Fis events, I.e Moguls,aerials, And i thought to myself hey I can do 360's I started to throw them off the first kickers.The Immense freedom our sport gave me motivated me to try some of the things that I started to see locals doing.. Lincons 3's 7's 1440.. And then we saw ppl hammering their skis and 540's and 9's appeared.. That's when the twin tip was invented by a local Jf Cusson. And ever since I have been hooked on the greatest aspect of skiing.

p.s. never forget the sole of skiing.. Fist chair to last chair.. Best feeling ever..

It was just the way my skiing went, biking played a big part too, hucking on a bike made me want to huck on skis etc.

For me it was knowing that skiing was happening in america but being from the UK meant there was and still is noe media coverage. So loged on by luck found Poorboyz and bought PROPAGANDA.
