What kind of pet should i get for my apartment?

next school year, i'm living in an off campus apartment complex. me and two other guys are bouta get the standard stuff, sound system, tv, couches, kegerator, and a pong table.

so i was thinking about getting some kind of animal. we can't get a dog, its the only thing they won't let us have. i'd get a cat, but i'm allergic and i'm pretty sure it would die due to lots of drunk idiots. i was thinking about putting a bird in my room in a big cage, but my friend thinks it will smell, so he doesn't really want it. we were going to get a huge fish tank, but we figure we'll break it and like 90 gallons of water in the room won't be fun to clean up. we might have settled on a lizard of some sorts. one of my friends had a chemeleon and i think we'll get one.

so what do you think NS, are chameleons boss enough for a college apartment? also, what other kinds of lizard type creatures would you be impressed if you went to a party and saw in this kids house. and no, i'm not getting a kamodo dragon. also, what tank size should we get? my brother can build pretty much any design and size. or i can get a 90 gallon cube for free. and have a 55, 30, and 20 in my basement (my brother loves fish).

we're open to suggestions.

i was thinkin about snakes, but i think they're kinda hard to feed and maintain. plus i dunno how these kids would feel about dead mice in the fridge or whatever you feed them. lizards basically just need crickets, and they're easy as fuck to find around my school.

Sugar glider! It's like a little flying squirrel thingy. My sister had one for a while. They're so sweet.

well the kid i room with had one a while ago. as long as one of us is familiar with them, it'll be good. plus he can grow his trees in the tank. he did that before, but the fucking animal ate it. haahah

and where the fuck can i get a flying squirrel?

they arnt hard to feed, my room mate would just go buy mice on feeding day and throw them in and they would get devoured. the only problem he had with them was that one liked trying to escape.

yea, i feel like it would get out. with a lizard, people won't really ask to take it out during a party or something. i feel like some drunk idiot would try to grab a snake.

Snakes are simple... and if it's a pretty social place a Parakeet would be dope. they like people, and activity...

!!!! right when i saw this thread im like i gotta tell this kid to get a sugar glider and you beat me to it but yeah my friend is getting one... acutally you have to get 2 i heard because alone they get lonely and blow their brains out. but seriously get one of those things the ladies would love it too, not so much snakes.

In some states you can't have sugar gliders.. and they're expensive, require a fresh diet, and get lonely. You do have to get two, and they're just more work than they're worth... and they're nocturnal, so if you want to sleep they want to play.

Rodents Stink too much.... Reptiles are cool but kinda boring and don't have a ton of character (unless it's some dope tortoise)

Parakeets make a mess so metimes if you put their seed and shit in a place where they can toss it... but they're only like $10, will sleep at night, whistle and be funny, and girls will like them prolly. And i think most apartments allow them.

i used to have 3 parakeets when i was little and i wouldnt get a little bird again. they have to like stay the right temperature and if like a cold draft comes through it can kill them. and for like the first week there chirping sounds nice but after a couple of months its gets real annoying but if u got like a sick big parrot that was like trained and could sit on ur shoulder that would be legit

Someone made a thread a few months ago saying he took baths with his python.....Talk about a WTF moment?

birds arent smelly at all but they are messy cause when they eat they crush their food and bits and pieces go flying everywhere, you have to vaccum like every other day

get a chinchilla

Chinchillas are fucking awesome

but you cant keep them in a small cage, they want freeeeedom. i would let my two chinchillas back in the day just run around my house. it was rad

some sort of bird, like a cockatiel or parakeets is pretty chill too

ferret is a no-go. i was looking at ferrets, and went to the store to check them out. they smell awful, are nocturnal, relatively high maintenance and dont make good pets. for the thread maker's situation though, i would say get a sick snake, like a really colorful one. i dont think they smell, you can just buy them mice to feed them, and they are cool as hell.

sugar gliders, i actually looked at, but they're gay. they need crazy diets, are up being assholes all night, and are just loud and messy as fuck. i can't have it be messy or loud or smelly. snake is a possibility, i do like the idea of a turtle (especially if it loves the water). i think an iguana would be dope as fuck. i'd like something in a huge tank, i think big tanks are sick for some reason. i dunno, keep the ideas comin.

well most lizards are hard cause if they get out they'll run like the wind and bite at you when you try to pick them up. snake would be pretty cool. you should make a sick terrarium with like some turtles and frogs. get like some gravel and a nice little pond with a tree or something like that. so sick. oh and put little shark fins on the turtle so when they walk around on the bottom looks like a shark is coming.

Dude get a rat. He'll ride around on your shoulder and stuff.

I used to have a chameleon, they're baller. not a lot of work either, if you put one in a tree or something in your house he'll just chill there all day. We used to leave mine outside in a small tree in the summer, for hours on end.

right when i saw the title of the thread, the first pet that came to mind was a sugar glider, haha.

but if you want to get a reptile, id say get an iguana type over a snake

my bro has a python, its pretty cool. suuuuuuuuper low maintnence, you only have to feed it once a week and put in water like every other day or so, but you want to feed it all the time cause its so sick.

Ferrets aren't the easiest animals in the world to have. Their shit smells bad, and if you're one for keeping them in a cage 50% of the time, it can get gross. The one I had was more of a family member than a pet. She was trained to do a couple tricks, and never lived in a cage.

Their life span also isn't that long, and they tend to get sick pretty easily. I wouldn't recommend one for an apt of college boys.

yea, we're taking into account that we're bouta get drunk and we're lazy and such. thats why we want something thats really low key and can just chill in my room while people are partying it up downstairs. also something that doesn't mind the noise. ha

a chinchilla or chameleon would be pretty cool.

one of my friends has a turtle thats like a foot and a half big, and he just walks around his house all day. they dont have a cage for it or anything. i think that would be pretty dope, but if you partying and such, someone might step on it or something

My uncle had a monkey, and he had to get rid of it because it would go on shitting sprees all around the house. Apes are probably not gonna be the best idea.

didnt read the whole thing, but did read most of it. i'd go for somethign like a bunny (i bet the girls would love it, but i have no idea on how much/when you need to feed them)

Uhh No, you an idiot and they suck.

I got a good unique one that most people wont have or expect but is really cool......

A hedgehog. Nobody has a hedgehog. It would be amazing.
