im sure this has been posted before, but im a total newb that gets pwn3d so its ok.
sooo anyway, im looking for a picture camera, i dont know much at all about digital photography, ive been using film, and though i like it alot more, i want a nice digital camera just cause its so much easier.
so whats a good camera i can get for under say, 500-600? do i need to spend that much to get a good quality camera? or can i go a bit lower? im fine with spending that much, but if i can get great quality out of something cheaper then why not?

you can get a camera that will take good pictures for like 300. little compact pocket sized ones. depends if that what you wanted. i shoot with a rebel xt that you could get for probably 600 bucks. its great cause you can upgrade the lens and all that. i really like it.

im thinking i want an slr, it would be nice to have a good pocket camera or something, just cause i could take it wherever i go, but i think the big difference in quality between that and an slr is worth getting an slr.

honestly the ideal thing to do is have an slr for the good shit, and a little point and shoot for the quick stuff. if you get a good one you can actually take legit pics with it.

for point and shoot check out the canon SD850 IS. its a great little pocket camera.

for an slr. check out the digital rebel. a cheap good starter slr. im partial to canon though so yeah, personal preference.

I'm a Nikon guy. So I'll recommend the D40. The pictures those take trump most Canons, IMO. (don't start an argument) Plus most SLRs have auto features on them which you can use while learning how to manually take pics.

also a really solid camera. i shot one for some school stuff and really liked it too. my dad just has a shitload of canon lenses so it makes more sense. but thats a good camera too.

well put, im a nikon guys myself, I started on a d40, it has taught me a lot, and given me quality photos, i still take it places with me. Its a perfect introductory slr i feel because of the ability to use manual and the autofocus, so you can dabble in a bit of both. The lenses get a bit pricey though because of the autofocus, but i dont know if youre considering getting that into photo
