im thinking of buying a digital slr. not sure if it would be worth it for me though. most likely a d50 with a sigma lense.

im in contact with two pro photogs, they all say canon isnt as good as nikon. when comparing the d50 to the rebel xt

d50 with a 50mm 1.8 = all you need, once you feel a rebel and d50 in your hands youll realize why i say this. Plus the extra megapexels don't make a difference

After doing some research I ordered the d50 2 days ago. It was between that and the d40 for me. I've always liked canon but after reading the reviews I decided to go with this one.

get a Nikon D80... it has 10.2 megapixels of resolution. It's also comaptible with the older Nikon f-mount lenses if you have any of them.

I have a Nikon F2 with a Metz ct-4 flash.

I shoot the Nikon D200

I love it, but get what suits ya.   The Creative Lighting System on Nikon is pretty dope, just been learning that recently.

Canon was the leader with digital photography, but Nikon really stepped it up with their D80 this year.

As for flash syncing, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's really just a matter of personal preference whether you get a Nikon or Canon... it's been an age-long debate between Nikonians and Canonites...

honestly do you have any experiance with an SLR camera? If not you should consider learning the basics on an old manual film camera. You could pick one up for under 100 easily on ebay.

Search for

Pentax ME super or k1000

Olympus OM-1

etc.

nuther thumbs up for the Pentax K1000... great beginner camera. Taking pics with film makes you take your time instead of snapping away. And I think the K1000 has a 1000 ms shutter speed, which is more than sufficient when paired up with fast film for action shots.

D50 nikon! I dont have it but i've used it and if i ever go into still photagrpahy I'd get that camera

I have a nikon D70s and it work really well..but you have to know that you can have a cheaper camera and make some great photo too

Nikon has traditionally had better glass than Canon. It's not really noticable, but when tested under lab conditions, the Nikon lenses were much sharper than the Canon lenses.

Of course, the difference is so miniscule that it's not too big a deal nowadays. And there's also the consideration of lens offerings... Canon with all their telephoto white-bodied lenses.

As for film camera bodies, I can't say which is better, but I do know that my Nikon F2 (from the mid-70s) has taken well over 10,000 photos and the shutter is still properly calibrated.

this thread is not about which is better between nikon and canon...he wanted to know want camera do you have that's it

I have both Canon and Nikon cameras. I also have Minolta, Pentax, Leica, Hasselblad, and Mamiya.

Between my Nikon and Canon, I have a preference for my Nikon.

And for those who say "go Nikon" or "go Canon," have any of you actually tried both brands? It's like suggesting a pair of skis simply because you own them...

If anyone is looking for a good starter SLR.  I have a Canon Rebel T2 for sale.  I just used it for B+W photography class.  much cheaper than a digital SLR.

Me and michiganjibber do all of our filming with a GL2. I think it's really sick but i'm a noob when it comes to cameras.

Shadows,I think you should really go with the D50,then just get a nice lens and a remote flash to make your night shots look good.Overtime you will learn how to use it properly and your pictures will come out great.

I would say to get a d70 but you probably wont really need it right now unless you want to take a better sequence shot but the d50 will work fine for those.
