What It's Like to Be a Ski Girl

Hahah! this is awesome! i hate the fact hair always gets in mouth whenever hitting park, and yes what's with the furry boots!

Actual moment in my life -

*from chairlift*

"Woah dude did you just see that guy eat it!?"

*I pull off my helmet and check out my freshly delammed top sheet after catching an edge in the park*

"Holy shit that was a chick! Did you see that?!"

I've also been called sir and dude and a multitude of masculine names. Surprise!!

I think this happens because of the constant battle you mentioned which is hair. Do I slick it all back and look like a guy so it doesnt get in my mouth. OR do I leave some out so that I am indeed recognised as female but have that disgusting feeling of hairy neck and hair in my mouth?! I can't choooose!!

Ski boot fur makes me sick ha

Pull two like strands like inch thick out the front and then put everything else in the tightest braid down your back ever

HAHA yes I definitely par take in the slut strand look. I recently cut off a bunch of hair and put some layers in so my braid doesn't work anymore :( I usually go through a stage every winter where I want to shave my head ha!

Although it always makes me ponder - having long hair is the most annoying thing about skiing. But there are so many guys rockin longer hair. Have they discovered a secret to avoiding our perils? Maybe we should ask the guys about their hair strategies haha

When I had really long hair it was braids or a bun.

I leave two strands out too, its been too many times being called a dude! Plus my hair is purple so I wanna show that off.

i think the guys just don't care as much as the girls. my brother has really long hair, so he can put his hair up, but its just always kind of a mess during ski season. I dont think asking the guys will help you much.

some guys on the chair lift asked started talking to me and then one of them said something about me being a guy. I told them i wasn't and they didn't believe me. i have wicked short hair, so i can't put it out of my helmet but its not worth growing out just for ski season :( on top of wearing a big ass saga jacket and baggy snow pants, i do look like a little boy

This is perfect, I love this. ^

Other favorite hits include:

"Holy shit that's a chick"

"She has more balls than you" *guy to other guy*

"If she's throwing flips, you better put a ring on it" *guy to my ex* (no ring, still stoked)

I get similar reactions when I pull off my helmet as when I step out of my car... They just can't believe there was a girl in there for some reason.

Honestly, being a ski girl gets interesting sometimes... I've skied with mostly guys my whole life which inadvertently made me into a guy's gal, from a young age. Not being allowed to cry or give up when I fell made me stronger for all the times I'd be bashed up later. Only problem with that was I sort of lost touch with a lot of my female friends cus I kept skiing and they stopped in favor of other sports or just got tired of it. (nothing wrong with that) I dunno, I just grew up as a skier girl, I don't know what I would be like if I wasn't. It's flattering when the guys think you're super hot cus you ski and have a good time. But sometimes but it gets kinda old if I stop into Woodward and want to get new tricks dialed in and get looked at weird cus they think I won't actually send anything. I started throwing down bigger and bigger stuff and the more I threw, the more people wanted to help me go bigger. Last I heard, I was definitely the only girl throwing backflips on the BMX resi mat on roller skis. Once the guys see skill, they kinda treat you as their own. I love the friendly shit talking and crude humor, it's a party with the guys I ski with. Which is nice to a certain extent but sometimes I miss some of that female connection. I can hang with the guys all day but there's some stuff they don't understand. I can't turn to them and talk about cute guys or how I should've worn a better sports bra. (like that article posted here a couple weeks ago)

At least Lady Gabber is sort of a place to reconnect with other girls and just have that tribe. Hopefully there will be more girls around to ski with this winter.

I feel ya.!!! I lost ALL of my girl friends since I was out on the mountain every day I could be. And because of that ended up being one of the guys too. I have a really hard time connecting with other girls because I have such a sarcastic, crude, dirty sense of humor.

I'm glad it's not just me XD

"Why don't you ever hang out with a group of girls?"

I... I don't know how.
