A while ago I read an article called Bowling for attitude in a Canadian skiing magazine. It was about how skiing isn’t about skiing anymore, its about cloths, attitude, style and what other people want you to do. Well it was right, I didn’t realize it at the time, but it was right. Most all of us are whores, my self-included. We all ride around wanting to get a sponsor, win a comp, or be in a big name movie. We bitch about other people’s style, their movies and how they ride. And it’s just getting fucking ridiculous. Look in the forums, people bitching about movies; people I respect like Neil smashing his peer’s movie. I guess everyone is entitled to there own opinion, but that phase is some thing my ex-roommate would say. There is a lot of 'hate' and not enough riding, granted people cant ride all the time but that’s not the point. We are not riding for our self’s, but rather for other people (fetus540s words). And it’s true, each year a pro dose a trick and everyone tries to copy it. Dave’s flat critical is an example. A lot of people do them now, and seeing what was once a supper sick tick, is just another trick. Or blunt and nose grabs this year, they are cool too see but by end of season they got mundane. The gorilla style looks good on tanner, dose that mean it looks good on everyone else? No it doesn’t so why force it. Some call this progression but what we are doing is taking other peoples style, so the pros are progressing and we are just following them. I know there will always be some similarity of style and tricks, but we make it so we try and copy them exactly. I am guilty of theses things but not nearly as much as others are. I am going to ride more for my self this year, rather then thinking 'if I land this it will be supper sick for a hook up video' I am just going to land it and ride away happy. I think the way things are going there isn’t going to be much left of “fun� in free skiing, rather it will be the fun of competition. It’s going to turn into what Olympics sports are, kids being trained at 5 and by 12 winning the gold. Is that what you want this sport to turn into? Personally I would like it to go in a different direction, but if it’s going that way (and it is) I am not going to be apart of it. Rip what I said apart, but I hope there are some people that relies what I am trying to say.

 
i totally agree with the part about skiing for yourself and i do agree that some people focus on copying others styles, but while 'copying others styles' sounds really bad, it really isn't.

For example: if someone does a certain trick someway and they see another person do it another way that either looks better or feels better or whatever, they are bound to do the new style. Should we abandon 'copying' people and continue using our retarted style just for the sake of being original?

yeah, I dunno man, peoepl here ski for themselves, tehre is an awesome session attitude everyon is firendly, its SICK. I love everything abotu it. And like yeah I dunno man its just all so sick.

I cant beleive the sport has come to this. why do people care about style and clothes and gear and sponsers that all means nuthin skiing is a lifestyle skiing its somethin people do because they love it not because they want to look the coolest or be the best. Think about back when u first started skiing. That first day on snow, that day that got u hooked for ever, that day that you fell in love with skiing. Now think about now. Whats changed. Why does it matter if your the best. Skiing isnt a big contest its a sport that all of us love but i think many of us have lost that perception, that view of skiing. Not everyone has to be tanner hall or seth morrison, its the love thats gunna keep this sport alive and when everyone realizes this there will never be another bad comment posted on someones video clip they posted, no one will ever mock another photo of someone that isnt as good as tanner or seth. were not all pros u know. but if u just take the time to look at the picture, but instead of lookin for the steeze and style in the photo look farther and if u look hard enough eventually u will see that persons love for the sport, in that one caption u will see why that person goes skiing everyday they can with a smile on their face no matter how crappy the conditions may be, in that caption u will see the reason that you kept skiing and why u still love it as much as u did that first day your hand grasped the metal bar of the handle tow heading up the bunny hill with your head held high. Just remember how bad it feels to be put down the next time u feel like postin somethin mean.Just remember skiing is a lifestyle love it for the fun not for the skill!

They should have an on slope fashion show. Someone has to wear some designer, like North Face, then hit a jump for some fashion style. That'd be cool, I'd enter because you'd be able to wear some clothes.

 
CorkWormTurn is right- what you see here isn't what it's like on the hill. Most of the skiers I know love to ski, and what they choose to wear, etc. is a reflection of that. There will always be those bitches who try to turn it into a coolness thing- those are the same clowns that you saw on snowboards five years ago doing the same thing.

I here you man, what with all these ski clothing comps the stuff is nice but super expensive you can pick up a nice t-shirt for a lot less leaving u with more money for lift tickets, and another thing whats with ski movies that have like fifteen minutes of crap in them. If I want to se drunk people I can do that my self. And have a much better time.
