What is your favorite touring ski/One you are excited for?

I have read and heard many opinions and am curious what you have to say.

I'm going to be in Tahoe this winter and am looking for a light, stable, and playful ski for full day tours, if such a ski exists.

I thouroughly enjoy my Praxis skis, and it is nice they give you the option for a touring layup in any one of their skis. There tends to be a ton of them for sale on Facebook/craigslist around reno/tahoe so it is worth keeping an eye out and you can get them for super cheap. I think I got my Backcountry Ultralight layups for 150 bones nearly brand new with skins.

If I were going to re-do my touring setup and I was buying new, I would probably go with the Wildcat tour 108 though. Ive heard really good things

I haven't had a dedicated touring setup for a few seasons, but I'm stoked to get on the Moment Deathwish Tour when I finally feel like I'll have enough reason to put one together again. I really liked my old pair of Exit Worlds and the DWT seems like a worthy, more capable successor.

Get one of the Moment touring skis, theyre the only tour specific skis that are worth the money and still are fun to ski

To echo what others have said, Moment makes some great looking tour sticks that are highly reviewed. Gonna pick up some Deathwish tours this year. ON3p also makes tour versions of the woodsman and billy goat. I've heard good things about the Line vision 108s too but they definitely aren't as durable.

One bit of advice from my own experience is to be wary of going too light. Something in the 1600 to 1800 g/ski range is ideal IMO if you're not trying to race to the top, lighter skis feel nice going up on the feet or pack but they make you work harder in most conditions on the descent and aren't as much fun. (esp in Tahoe with that sierra cement)

Have BD Helio Carbons in 105 and 95 widths. Definitely not a resort ski but imo they ski insanely well for how light they are.

I would really love to try a woodsman 102 tour from ON3P. I have a Jeffery 110 with the hybrid touring core but I would love to see what an actual full touring ski feels like in a family of skis that I am already familiar with.

I'm a midwestern import who is mega newb to touring but have really enjoyed it thus far. I've held touring skis of different varieties in store but how that translates to snow in relation to "normal skis" I have yet to experience firsthand.

Any of Moment's touring line are going to make you really happy. I just mounted up another pair of Deathwish Tours since that's my favorite touring ski ever. They're pricey, but ON3P's touring layup is really good. I loved the J118 tour, and a J110 tour would be a great do-everything touring ski.

If you're going mass market skis, an Atomic Bent 110 or 120 won't make you sad either.

you are on newschoolers dude...

honestly anything from sgn skis, want to try a pair.

can attest to the rakkar, little heavy for a dedicated touring setup but i’ve got mine with cast and they’re so much fun to ski, dope topsheet as well

They are quite popular in Norway. Every aspiring all mountain skier is on them these days. Tried the old version (same mold different specs) and it felt great being beat.

the pricetag is holding me back tho, but i eant to replace my kartel with the rakkar once they fold, which will probably be a while

I tour with Bent 120s and cast, not tooo heavy on the up but super stable and confidence inspiring on the down. I built them for touring setup before I decided to get into touring, as I would have gone for probably the 110s and a lighter binding, but its still a sick setup.

I did the Bent 120s with Shifts for a couple of years, as well. Nothing huge - I think my biggest day was 5-6k vertical feet - but they were great for only touring a few times per year. Only downside was I was going out with friends on lightweight, dedicated touring setups, and I was always the one people were waiting for on changeovers. Bents with a true touring binding seems like a great combo, especially for those of us on the lighter bodyweight side of the spectrum.

I have no idea what I’m doing, but thoughts on putting frame bindings on reckoner 102s? This would be for maybe the 1-2 days of touring/ season on the east coast

stack height and weight would be something to consider, don’t think would be as heavy as a cast setup though. some people love them and some hate them but daymakers could also be an option

Some good stuff in here. ON3P and Moments seem like the move but I'll probably go for a bent or something similar due to price. The less grip from the twin tip won't be a big deal if the snow's alright.

108-112 mm skis really get the job done, especially 110mm. That waist width for me with a long radius seems to be extremely versatile. Sounds like excessively light skis are not worth the shitty performance except for big days.

Thanks to all for sharing.

Unless you are dead set on going brand new, which is fine. Keep an eye on FB market and craigslist for reno/tahoe. There are so many good deals on there for backcountry skis that people bought and used twice.

Of course you have to wade through the bullshit of people selling setups for MSRP. But if you have the patience it can be worth it.

I didn’t want to start a new thread but I’m afraid I might’ve fucked up. I bought these on marketplace for a great deal but I didn’t ask what year they were or if they were GW compatible, think they’ll work with my dalbello panterras?

pic won’t upload but here’s the link
