Beatie told Barbara Walters in an interview airing on ABC's '20/20.'

"Everything is right on track." Here, Beatie is shown with his wife,

Although

Beatie was born female, he identified with being male and began the

process of changing his sex in 1998. He started testosterone treatment,

had his breasts removed and became legally male -- but he did not have

surgery on his genitals, and his female reproductive organs remained

intact.

couple, who live in Oregon, wed in 2003. Nancy was unable to have

children, so they decided that Thomas would instead. He stopped taking

testosterone and started menstruating. After nine doctors refused to

give the donor sperm couple, ABC News reported, they simply bought some

on the Internet.

Beatie

told ABC News that the pregnancy did not make him feel like a woman. "I

did not feel maternal or motherly or womanly and pregnant. I felt like

Nancy's husband, and I felt like the father of my child," he said.

After

Susan's birth, Beatie did not resume hormone therapy, in the hopes of

having another baby. He was inseminated again two months ago.

Beatie

has written a book about the experience, 'Labor of Love.' The Beaties

are appearing on ABC's '20/20' Friday and were paid to be profiled in a

British documentary that will air on the Discovery Health Channel next

week.

This is just a woman with no breasts and facial hair. What is so wrong about that. My mom had her breasts removed when she had breast cancer. Is that messed up?
 
The thing i don't get is she was born a woman.. she must have taken male hormone treatment to get the facial hair and the physical appearances of a man.. but once she got 'knock up' doesnt her estrogen kick in and cancel out all that male hormone treatment? Also the babies got to be a test tube baby... what a biological fuck up, why would you do that to yourself?
 
Dude, that's totally fucking different. My mom had hers removed earlier this year just because of that. Don't even fucking go there. I'm just saying...It's just crazy how things have changed over such a short period of time.
 
Its not to herself, it's why you would do that to the kid. Now they have to explain to the children that their mom is fucked up and doesn't actually want to be a mommy, so she takes lots of drugs to try and look like a man.

Gays have nothing to do with this. He's a transgender person, although he may specifically have female genitalia, he has changed his processes with hormones to become pretty much a guy.

I don't think its rediculous. I think its miraculous. Basically what we all thought was a guy could get preggers.
 
Really. It's not just what she's done to herself, but what she's doing to her kids. Sure it's more socially acceptable nowadays, but kids are kids and they want to be like other kids.

The only people these kids have to worry about though is closed minded individuals like yourself. There is no proof out there that as parents, gays/transgendered individuals are any 'worse' then traditional heterosexual couples. Ironically, the root problem actually now appears to lie in the intolerance that the kids of most traditional heterosexual couples unknowingly learn from their parents towards anyone who is 'different' in society.

 
I never said they were bad parents. I actually think gays make better parents for some reason. I'm just saying that do people really take into affect what they are actually doing?

the person in the article is suffering from gender identity disorder, it has nothing to do with being homosexual. It is being born in one body yet feeling as if you ought to have been born in the other sex.

To say that it disgusts you, or that the children won't be able to handle it is wrong. flat wrong. I guarantee the kids of that family will grow up to be leaps and bounds more tolerant and understanding than you'll ever be.

 
It was on Oprah about 3 months ago. There was so much hate about it, and people from their town like got really mad about it. I honestly could care less.

No, you went and talked about breast cancer. It's a totally different thing. Do you think that women that have breast cancer want to get rid of their breasts? No. I've spent two years at Moffit Cancer Center with my mom, and I have seen things that I don't wish on anyone. Don't even go there.

i was saying that you being disgusted by someone who is born with gender identity disorder (something that manifests at the ages of 18 - 36 months) is just the same as being disgusted by someone who has a physical disease like cancer, or being disgusted with people who are retarded. You have no justification for it whatsoever, that's just the way things are.
