What is the perfect ski for a freestyler and a racer? (freestyle comes first)

I am a freestyle skier and often go to the park, yet I am also suprisingly the captain of my schools varsity race team. I was wondering what ski I should get for both. I am 5,9 132lbs. and am considering the pipe cleaners and the spks. (171 pc, and 168 spks) Have any other ski suggestions? I like freestyle more than racing but now as captain I don't want to look like a complete fool on short park skis.

get two pairs of skis, find a good deal on some park skis on here then look around on epic or ebay for some race skis, i dont think any park ski out there is going to be fun for GS

The two you picked are definitely what I would suggest. But racing competitively you should really get a race ski, and probably look for a used set of park skis for cheap if money is the issue.

Like everyone else said, you really need 2 seperate pairs...

But with that said, if you must only have one pair, the Elan Mo2 is the way to go hands down

werd. you cant hit rails on the same skis you want to race with. period. buy some race skis on ebay like he said. and right now online you can get a pretty good selection of pure park skis for like 200 bucks.

I agree with everyone else. I remember my dad got himself solly crossmax 10s (mayb 9s?) both /w s912ti's for just $250ish on ebay, they absolutely rip. Not so sure if theyre racing skis but I'm sure you could pull it off

as most people have said you really want a pair of race skis and then separate pair of twins. at any rate for your size i would probably go closer to a 175-180cm ski no matter what skis you end up choosing

That's tough for race though, not sure how it works wherever your racing, but almost every racer I talk to has 2 pairs, one for GS one for S, maybe go with long long for GS, and use your parks which would be a bit smaller for S.

I know everything you guys said about buying two makes sense, but I feel like I can achieve a high enough level in both styles of skiing with one ski, and many seem to suggest the pipe cleaners, the karmas, the spks, and one said the mo2's. I'm not sure which one of these to choose. I found good deals on all of them and was wondering if there were any other types similar to these listed or better for what I want. Thanks...

I know you may find this to be a good idea, but once you start progressing in park and or racing your are going to be bummed, the side cut and mounting for park skis are alot different from race skis, you need sharp edges for racing, in park your edges will get distroyed, you are also not going to have the same edge control with a park ski, especially something like the karmas, they are alot slower edge to edge

trust me, i tried to race on twin tips, it is fucking scary. get ready to be made to look like a fool when you cant hold an edge for shit on a course. i bought some cheap race skis on ebay for like 250 (rossi 9x) and the difference is amazing. you seriously cannot break them out of a carve if you wanted to. first day on them i was pushing my outside ski soooo hard, and all it would do is just carve harder. you will be pissed cuz you cant ski your twins like you want to if you are using them to race, and pissed when you cant carve on twins.

trust me, save up a little more and get two pairs, or pro form some or something, you wont regret it.

i have a couple friends that have come from racing backgrounds and are all on salomon foils now, they love em

if your really set on having a ski for both i would definitly go pipe cleaners or salomon cr labs(2 year old skis but have race bases just like the pipe cleaners and you can probably find a great deal on em). or whichever salomon ski has a race base this year(its either the dumont or spk i dont remember)

this is an observation:

i have the scratch fs in 167

and the 9x in 167

the mount point is like the same

the flex is quite similar

and i was like wtf

the only real difference was the tip on the back of the scratch

here is my actual replay to your post

get a cheap pair of race skis, i use 04/05 9x's, they rock

and find a pair of park skis cheap, because the end of the season

the 2 pairs of cheaper skis will be about the same as new karmas w/bindings

and you'll have waaay better performance

+you wont destroy your park skis racing and vice versa

i really suggest looking around to find a pair of racing skis for cheap

you are the captain of your team

look at evogear

you can find good end-of-season deals there
