What is the nicest thing a stranger has done for you?

Last year this Norwegian guy was crashing on my friends couch he was competing in the NendazFreeride and the Verbier Xtreme. He gave me a brand new ABS backpack
He hadn even met me he just knew i was stoked on riding... When i did meet him he was the soundest bloke and just said no worries put it to good use.
Don't think many people can top that.

this thread has such a good vibe

i found a wallet, called the guy, gave him back, and he gave me 50 bucks in return

agreed for sure.

I haven't really recieved anything from strangers, but i always try to be respectful for others whenever i can, so that one time i need help hopefully karma can be there for me. My neighbor has MS and can't do much around the house, and she is single and lonely. I help her all the time hang christmas wreaths, tend to her garden (she loved to garden before MS), and move furniture, and I usually stick around to provide her company. it kind of feels good deep down to know that i can help someone in need.

Yesterday I was standing at the end of my apartment road in the pouring rain waiting for the bus to campus, when this smokin hot girl I'd never met in my life pulled up and asked me if I needed a ride. She drove all the way through campus and dropped me off right in front of my building. I was soaking wet, but so grateful. Nicest thing a stranger has ever done for me.

Nicest thing I've had someone do for me is I had some lady buy my lunch in a diner cuz i was talking to her and the waitress about going to a military academy. She left and the waitress told me she covered my check.

And something I've done is my roommate almost wasn't able to come back next semester because he can't pay tuition and didn't have a laptop. So over break I ordered one for him so he can actually get his work done. I generally spot people all the time when they need money too.

Once there was a problem with the water in the city so most all of the fastfood resturants were closed. me n friends were gettin high and wanted taco bell it wasnt open...we tried to getin threw the drive threw window...didnt work. so the only place that was open was burger king we went threw the drivethrew and their was only like 3 guys working. we ordered prolly close to everything on the menu and we were bein really obnoxious like blasting music and whatnot. when we pulled up to the window he said that they didnt have anymore clean water for our drinks so they gave us our 37 doller order for free it was pimp.

I Helped some old guy find his rental ski's that he lost after double ejecting off the side of the run, took a good couple of hours. Then took him to the rental shop where i explained to the people there that this guy was trying some serious off piste and perhaps they should fit him out withe some wider ski's. Felt well good until he gave me £20 for it and then i hade to go find something unselfish to do.

Several complete strangers have given me places to sleep while hitchhiking or traveling around. Probably the most incredible one was a guy who was dropping me off in a town on I-5 when I was hitchhiking from Oregon to Idaho. It was maybe 1 in the morning and I was just planning on curling up in a park somewhere until morning when I could get another ride. When he heard that, he pulled up to a nice hotel in town, handed me a hundred-dollar bill, and drove off.

Nicest thing a stranger did for me was when I ran out of gas in the pouring rain in a town I had no idea where I was, and every car was just beeping and driving past me, this one guy stopped and helped me out. He ran to his house and got some gas for his lawn mower and put it in my car for me and then directed me to the nearest gas station. I was so grateful.

Another one was when my family and I were up in Maine on Long Lake in my great aunts boat and the most insane thunder and lightening storm came out of no where and we pulled over onto the nearest property and the family let us in their house until the storm passed then they drove us back to my great aunts house and said we could pick the boat up in the morning. Also, very grateful for that one.

I guess the nicest thing I've ever done for a stranger was I saw this woman lying on the trail at Sunday River and her stuff was scattered everywhere. I didn't see her crash, and it seemed like she had been there a decent amount of time, so I stopped with my cousin and we collected her stuff and I stayed with her while my cousin went down to grab ski patrol. Even her gloves came off when she crashed and her hand was completely in the snow and she said she couldn't feel the cold, so I knew something went horribly wrong. Ski patrol came and they told us we could leave and the woman was thanking us and said she was alright from here. Her and her husband actually ended up being friends with my uncle who worked for Sunday River with handicapped skiers and she started working with my uncle after her crash because it caused her to become quadriplegic. She explained to my uncle what happened and she ended up sending me a card thanking me. I still feel horrible to this day for what happened to her, but I know she's in good hands with my uncle, and I'm pumped that she is still out there on the mountain.

For sure man, last year in Seattle we had a couple of feet on the snow and the plows weren't out for shit and as anyone who has been to seattle knows, it is full of hills. I have a big bumped I built for my jeep and one of the nights I just zip tied some towels around it and used my jeep to help push people out that were stuck, felt great seeing how thankful people were!

One time i was at this really expensive restaurant and i lost all my money and so like this stranger came up (really attractive female) and was like i got this covered. and i was like what ur gonna pay for me??? and she was like well no i dont have that kinda money but ill sleep with u. wont that make things better? and i was like sure so we had sex. and yea nicest thing a stranger has ever done

^True story

last weekend after skiing all day me and my friend were walking back to our car to go home after taking all our gear off in the lodge, so i had my hands full of stuff and somehow without me noticing my sweatshirt slipped out from under my arm in the middle of the parking lot and fell on the ground. after walking about 500 or so feet more to the car, i hear a distant scream saying "hey you dropped your sweatshirt". happens that some nice old guy sitting in the lodge looking out the window at the parking lot, saw me drop it, and walked all the way from the lodge, picked it up and got my attention. honestly i was blown away. 99% of people would have just seen something like that, not even thought of getting up from their seat in the lodge, walking halfway across the parking lot, and helping someone out they had never even met.

if i ever see that guy again up on the mountain i'm gonna buy him a beer or something.

One day my dad and I were out mountain biking and my dad lost his GPS. Looked all around the mountain but couldn't find it. A few days later, a hiker found it and called Garmin with the cereal number. Garmin was able to track it back to my dad and it came back in the mail in like 2 weeks.

this, ive given leftovers to homeless people.

i guess the nicest thing a strangers done for me was give me a ride to the hospital haha

It's always nice when, after taking a big fall anywhere on the mountain, someone stops just to see if you're alright. I always do it if i see someone in front of me go down. Just gotta make sure they're all set. I'd hate to just ski past and leave some guy alone after breaking a leg or something.

Few weeks ago I was going to my first football match here in london. I've supported the team my entire life, but never made it to a game since i live in the us. So I found my way to a supporters pub where this guy started talking to me. He was a fierce angry looking guy and i thought he was gonna murder me despite us supporting the same team. Turned out to be an extremely nice guy. He and his buddies (all lifelong season ticket holders) bought me a few beers, told me stories, then along with hundreds of others, marched over to the stadium, brought me up to my seat, told me to enjoy everything, and wrote down simple instructions on how to get back to the pub and meet up with them after the game. Went back later and had a few more beers with them talking about the match. Absolutely made that day memorable for me.

i love when girls come up to you on the dance floor and say something along the lines of 'i saw you from the bar and just had to come say something'.

cha-CHING. don't even have to play the game, you just fastforward straight to winning.

I think the nicest thing a stranger has ever done for me was quite a few years ago, Hitting some dirt jumps on a bike, managed to overshoot a landing and crack some ribs, bruised kidney and all that, The shop owner up at the Nordic center was awesome enough to bring me down to the hospital, and drop my bike off at home, while letting my parents know what happened...

Nicest thing I think I've ever done for someone was walking to the train on my way to work, this girl (she looked about 13) looked like she had just had the shit beaten out of her (Teeth out of place, blackening eyes, face all cut up, everything bleeding). Turns out she was mugged, and some guys just stole her wallet and beat her...

So I called a cab for her, and gave her $20 to pay for it, waited with her until the cab came to take her home.

one time i got two flat tires on my car in the middle of mass. 300 miles from home and i didn't have enough money to get the tires fixed with the money i had in my wallet. So i was talking to this lady tell her my situation and she like here is some money idk if itll help but here u go and she hands be 50 bucks, it was literally the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me, i had just enough money to buy the new tires.

This didn't happen to me but my sister. She was on a trip to Egypt where somone had stolen her purse from the beach, she then had gotten an email from a girl in England saying that she had found my sisters purse and brought it to England and asked for an adress where she could send back the purse! And then a week later my sister got her purse back to Finland where we live!

Yea, my nicest experiences have always come from hitch hiking. People just go out of their way sometimes to be incredibly kind and generous.

while hitchhiking I've had:

-people offer places to stay

-a guy picked me up and on the way said he had to get something from the store, and came back with a bottle of whiskey for me

-people give me money

-a guy who gave me a 14 hour ride and kept loading me with food and was just the nicest person

-hitchhiking with a friend a woman picked us up and really really wanted to buy us lunch at some fancy restaurant. it just made her day to do that. made mine too.

I've hitchhiked over 6000 kilometres now and have had a hell of a lot of rides. generally you meet the nicest people while hitchhiking and I highly suggest it, especially in Maritime Canada. Just amazing people there. you always get a few assholes, like I got picked up by some guy who was a complete racist and wouldn't shut up about how much he hated blacks. but those types of people are few and far between.

I try to repay those sorts of favours as best I can all the time. makes me happy to make people happy.

There's an area I will sometimes go for lunch that is notorious for people panhandling. I will never give money out to someone but every now and then I will give someone a meal or something I am not going to eat.
One time a man approached me and said he was from Denver had no place to stay and hadn't eaten in days. I brought him in where I was already going to eat and got him a meal. He sat down next to me and started laughing. When I asked what was so funny he reached into his pocket and said "here take this". He gave me a $20 bill. I was puzzled, and he explained that he was actually a grad student from Denver and very well off. This was just part of his dissertation on some sociology degree. We then talked for a little bit and he went onto the next person hahaha.

3 years back i was riding my mountainbike around 10 miles from home. i was at the top of a climb and i had to decide whether to go back down (obviously very easy, pretty much only flat/downhill) or go the other way down.

problem is, when youre down there, the only good way back is a 10 mile climb with approx. 2,500 ft vertical plus another 15 miles downhill until home.

so i decided to go for it, it was like 5 in the evening. felt good for the first part of the climb, but at some point, somewhere in the middle, i just felt my energylevel going down. seconds later i had to shift into the easiest gear (normally you can use the 6-9th gears up there) and was pretty much "standing" there. thought its a bad idea to take a real break (it was cold), and just kept on. 1,5 miles and easily half an hour later, a car was about to pass me by. i thought "fuck it" and stopped it (it was the first car for a long long time, prolly one of the last ones that day).

now these complete strangers (young couple) gave me cookies, cuz thats the only thing they had to eat. pretty good in that situation, lots of sugar. they were so nice, asked if they could do something else (my bike didnt fit in their car).

i ate the cookies and i could feel the power coming back. great feeling. maybe 1 mile of climb was left. wasnt nice, but manageable. its definitely possible that i missed a collapse by a few minutes. i felt so empty and numb. didnt even think about calling for help with my cellphone. shit is more dangerous as i thought.

BOTTOM LINE: went mtbing, strangers passing by in a car helped me out with cookies when i experienced a hunger knock.

I was stuck in an airport without knowing when I would get home. The plane broke and the weather was total shit. I hadn't eaten in 15 hours and was dying for food. Some really nice sisters ordered pizza for me and made me promise that next time I found some kid stranded at an airport, help him.

As for the nicest thing I've done for a stranger, I bought a homeless guy lunch.

A few years ago with a couple of friends were bored one night and decided to sleep out on my friends lawn and once we got out there in our sleeping bags we started telling stories and what not and decided to pull an all nighter just for the fun of it. long story short we were out there all night and early in the morning some guy drove by honked and gave us a wave. none of us knew the man but we all waved back and it was just nice to see someone being friendly. then about 15 minutes later he drove by again but stopped on the road in front of us. probably around 7 in the morning and we walked over to the road to talk to him and he asked us what we were doing and talked for a little and he gave us a whole box of donuts. Super nice guy and it just made that night that much better.

On a ski trip with my family to colorado we had a shitty rental mini van for the 6 of us. on our way back to the hotel one night it started shitty out. when we got to one of the passes (not sure where) but we made it about 100 ft up this huge hill until the tires started spinning and we were going no where. after about 3 hours of pushing a few feet at a time we made it about another 50 ft. A ton of cars were passing us and some were behind us in a similar situation. Then some guy in a 4 wheel drive jeep pulled over just in front of us got out and asked us if we needed a tow. He hooked up the rope and everything and pulled us to the top of the pass. It was by far the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me. I think my dad gave him some money but idk if he took it. but if it wasnt for him we would have easily been there until the next day. we were maybe 1/50 of the way up the mountain and not making it anywhere fast.

thats all i can think of right now. im sure theres a bunch more

Near the end of every year some big fat jolly guy breaks into my house and leaves me boxes of items, whos contents had items I had wished to acquire. By morning I have tons of sweet new things, all of this for nothing, weird but cool. Needless to say I can never catch this good samaritian.

But seriously I can't think of anything major.

No stanger has ever done anything nice for me. But I saved a strnagers baby last year, it was rolling away in it's stroller soon to fall down some stairs, and I caught the stroller. I'm a good perso

A nice older gentleman stopped and helped me move my 750 ninja off the highway after I layed it over, I've picked up my own bike before but I turned my ankle in the fall and was struggling and holding up traffic. Also they sent out two firetrucks to assist as it was on a major highway. All the firemen picked up and loaded my bike in the back of my bosses work van too so that was awesome. Very very lucky that day, like fall in a pile of shit and come out smelling like a rose lucky.

So one time I lost my sun glasses at a party. I was pretty pissed. It's not like they were super nice glasses but I paid like 40 bucks for em. During my cab ride home I was pretty drunk and told the driver my whole story about how I lost my glasses. Suddenly he reaches into the glove compartment and pulls out a pair of Ray-bans! Needless to say I was fucking stoked. After thanking the guy and giving him a huge tip I got out of the cab feeling SO lucky. They ended up getting stolen like two weeks later...

i cant really remember sometime when a stranger has done anything genuinely nice, but the nicest thing i've done was this one time when i was volunteering at a garage sale at my church i carried a bunch or furniture out to an old womans car. in was november and she told me to put a jacket on cuz i was gonna freeze to death.

I missed the bus after football in 7th so I was stranded at school which was a 45 minute drive from my house and my parents were out of town so this super quiet kid came up and said that he could call his grandpa to give me a ride home which he did..... he and I are best buds now. This was like 6 years ago.

Whenever I eat out and myself or someone I'm eating with have some leftovers that they don't want to eat, I always take it to go and put it out on the street for someone to grab if their hungry.

I've never had a stranger do anything overly nice for me, but I've never had one be rude or mean to me. The nicest thing I've done is when I was sitting on a couch in the lodge I was looking under the cushions for some reason and I found some super nice touch phone thingo. I turned it on and texted his contacts asking whose phone it was and was able to return it to its owner which I was pretty stoked on. It was a Rogers phone and at the time I had lost my own Rogers phone so I could have easily taken the phone for myself. My old phone that had been missing for weeks turned up a day or two after that, karma is fucking real.

one time at the top of the park a guy dropped his bag of cheeba out of his pocket and was about to ski away so i reminded him he dropped it then after he said its rare for people to say anything so he gave it to me. it was pretty cool

when i blew out my acl and partially blew out my ankle decking a jump, this guy gathered my skis that had gone really far away. really helpd

I can't think of anything someone has done for me but...

One time I was driving at night, and I saw something glowing in the intersection. I realized it was a cell phone, and I thought "Shit, someone is REALLY going to miss that when it gets crushed by a car." So I pulled through the intersection, parked my car, and walked back and picked it up. Some dude called it and he came and got it. I got $20 out of it, and I tried to refuse it like 5 times, but the dude was having none of that. He was so grateful to have that phone back, he said he had his whole life on there.

i turned in a wallet i found at bolton

didn't even open it, but realized later that i should've to get the guys name and call him, cuz it was on a vacation week
