What is the most racist ski town?

Based on this guy's experience you might consider avoiding Bozeman/Big Sky.

If we're talking Montanan ski towns, surely Whitefish is top of the list. There's a group there trying to Kristallnacht all the Jewish businesses out of the town. Only place in the area with more white supremacists than the Flathead is probably the Idaho panhandle (or just Idaho in general).

Hmmm, not the greatest read. I agree and disagree. There is a fucking ton of racism in rural America, even ski towns. I agree with that. I went rolled into my home town in upstate NY a few years ago and somebody had changed the restaurant sign to "No mexicans or niggers allowed". As much as it was a "joke" probably, they weren't really joking. That sentiment seems to be held pretty widely in some places.

I don't understand why he complained twice about being called a faggot, but then complained about how horrible it was that people were excited for marriage equality. People were excited because that was a fucking big day. It wasn't some story about paris hiltons new sunglasses to distract people from Charleston Shooting. I think I was traveling at the time but remember it being on the news everywhere. There was plenty of talk about it, sadness, people condemning it. Now that didn't magically stop racism, but there was definitely lots of coverage. Maybe there wasn't enough coverage? Or it wasn't good enough? Idk, it seemed like it was everywhere.

Idk how the hell you can suggest that marriage equality was pretty meaningless because they were talking about that more than the funeral for the Pastor killed. Then after basically saying that was meaningless, a moment that meant a lot to gay people especially, complain about being called a gay slur.

"As a writer, the hardest part was realizing that Edward Abbey’s words about wilderness, refuge, and hope could not apply to me as long as white people failed to eradicate racism."

Dude needs to grow a pair. Not that great a writer anyway. Had something crazy fucked up happen, I'd get it. Do I understand how it feels to be black with a bunch of racist white people? Of course not. I don't blame him at all for leaving, but to put such a blanket statement about how the outdoors can't be for him because he's black is ridiculous. If you really care about the outdoors, get out there and check out a knew place. If he had a horrible time every time, then I could see the resentment and giving up on the outdoors, but one town?

And I agree that there is plenty of racism in ski towns. Idk, I just thought it was a kind of shitty read.

definitely an issue in any rural town near mountains, we had kids here in Heber, UT rocking confederate flags on their shitty trucks during that whole debate over them as a "fuck you we're proud of being white" protest like many people did. People then started ripping their flags off of their trucks which sparked another debating regarding the suppression of free speech. It wasn't the case, it was just some angsty contrarian 16 year olds who watch too much fox news. We know what they were doing.

Park City is a pretty diverse town with a heavy Hispanic demographic and other workers from south America or the phillipines/Thailand and all over. Ive come to find most locals who happen to be white who either work in town too or run businesses are all extremely liberal and open-minded people for the most part. Its probably really difficult to be racist in an area where the people you are trying to hate and oppress are the same people running your businesses, but then again there are racists from all over running businesses/companies who employ different demographics of people who still get by so who knows.

Guests/Tourists and sometimes the 2nd homeowners seem to be the ones with the issues. For instance, things will go missing in their condos that the guests themselves misplace or housekeeping staff just moves out of the way to clean, so then the guest assumes that housekeeping stole whatever item that's missing when in reality thts not the case at all. They're paid like shit, over-worked like slaves, most of them are poor immigrants here on visas working so its easy to assume that "hey theyre poor and that's what poor people do, they steal things!". We've wasted more than enough of the local polices time filing police reports over missing decorative bowls or something fucking stupid and most of the time no apology or any "my bad" on behalf of the guest/owner comes out of it, so that's kinda fucked up.

imo most people ive interacted that seemed racist or whatever come from those worlds of wealth where everything is done for them, they have little to no interaction with the workers who make these things happen, and it usually doesn't help that they have views and feelings on things that have been pounded into their heads from their predecessors and parents. That stuff is difficult to try and get people to realize when you have just minor split second interactions with them. That's their job to figure out and sadly most really don't. For as much as a lot of wealthy people travel internationally, there really isn't much time spent on gaining a world view or understanding of others. Shits good for you right now so why should you have to worry about those lowly resort workers putting in 70 hours/week just to make rent?

On some back road in Namibia this summer there was a tour bus pulled over and a circle of white tourists taking pictures of a black boy. "Omg its a real African black kids lets take pictures for social media"

We drove by and were like holy fuck people. There was a gem stand that they were ignoring, the stand was why the bus pulled iver and obviously why the kid was there but they were all about the kid.

Probably whatever town Liberty University Dryslope.is in... but who really knows. It might not even be in the USA, surprisingly..

My guess it's also the town that's the most hostile to tourists, outsiders, and people with weird hair and brightly coloured clothing. Basically the same shitballs who would 10000% support the Kim Regime, Pol Pot, Galtieri, Francisco Franco, or Yosif Stalin if this was a downright authoritarian country.

youre on vacation and I sorta understand it; why let stuff ruin your vibe? but reality is still there, and those very people cleaning your condo or at the very least delivering your lift tickets/firewood/shampoo/towels/etc. for the measily couple-dollar tip need every cent, and that very tip may have helped them have a roof over their head or be able to buy a damned sandwich at the 7/11 for dinner.

It sounds extreme but that's honestly some of the realities of a lot of resort town workers sadly. its not all shredding all day. shit, most of us are lucky to make it out once every week maybe or so.

considering almost all the hispanic and international folks that live in PC do the shitty menial jobs, it can be inferred that PC is pretty racist.

The vast majority of low paid workers in most ski towns, including PC, are whites. If you want to argue that ski towns have class issues, then I'm all ears because there are serious issues in that regard. Ski towns being racist though? Come on man these are some of the most liberal places in the country, with a couple exceptions maybee.

lets be honest, most of these rich white folks would never dare to let their seeds work manual hard labor so theres that too. but yes, institutionalized racism is still very present but for the most part a lot of their efforts are respected and well-appreciated. cant deny that. PC doesnt seem to have shit like white supremacist groups trying to run the jewish business owners out of town.

not to mention with lots of talks and news about new resort developments and such, there are priorities in which are focused on building more low-income housing and affordable/employee housing for the new jobs that it will create and to also help the already difficult housing and living situations in resort towns.

honestly dude its not just people from other countries that struggle working here, its even broke-ass white kids from the EC here just to ski and work for six months. Almost endless amounts of peers of mine/co-workers in the past that would work all day and then all night just to cover the bottom line, and only really get out to ski and do stuff on days where they only work nights.

or maybe it's just because some of these people from other parts of the world come to the northern hemisphere to get a summer job in a ski town to make some extra money and broaden their horizons by visiting different places and experiencing different cultures, idk just spitballing here

would love to see you say this to the faces of the "hispanic and international folk" you speak of (hint: they may just think you're racist)
