What is the best sony VX for skiing wise?

im looking into to getting a VX for me and my homies to use to film and stuff, for skateboarding i know the best sony vx is the VX 1000 handycam but whats the best skiing wise?
 
not everyone has the funds to buy such a beastly camera.... hell the P2 cards cost nearly a grand a piece..... The vx2100 is the best, latest and greatest of the vx's, the 2000 and 1000 are older more obsolete models.
 
hell no bro i dont wanna pay like 5000 for a HVX when i can get like the VX 1000 or the VX 2000 from one of my homies, i think i might be buying the VX 1000 cause hes selling it for 950 with a good wide angle lens (fish eye)
 
your correct. no LCD either  but who watches footy on there cam anyway.

how do you know its a good fisheye.
 
yeah i think im gonna get the vx 1000 cause i dont wanna pay extra money to just get the vx 2000 or 2100 with only an extra lcd screen that the vx 1000 doesnt have, i know its good because ive seen what hes selling me and ive filmed skating with it today
 
don't go w/ the vx 1000, you'll regret it, the 2000 and 2100 are much better for their low light capability alon, not to mention many other features.
 
yeah i know i was joking. spending that much on a camera is redic unless your actually filming for a company or are a professional videographer

i have this cam. its suuuper good with all types of conditions, low light, snow, ANYTHING. best cam evaa. i especially like the "night vision" feature.
 
yeah bro is that nice, i mean i can get a vx 2000 or vx 2100 but for 200 dollars more then the vx1000 with a good fisheye, i dono is it worth it? you tell me
 
we have a 2100 and after reviewing 20 hours of footage and I can say this. It is not any better in quality than the $400 canon except in low light and closeups.

Now it could be that heads were dirty to begin with. and the stock lens is garbage, but in playback I honestly don't see much difference. I have tried all different settings read all different manuals.. naaaaaaa I am not convinced it is all that.
 
There's alot more to the vx2100 than point and shoot. Its a great camera. I think the best bang for the buck is the vx 2000. Virtually the same as the 2100 minus just a few tactile features. you should be able to get one in the thousand dollar range. My 2cents..
 
the vx2100 is the most versitile and has the most low light options...

heres mine, I got a fisheye, macro, telephoto, 4 batteries, 60 tapes, and everything you would ever need for like 2000, plus it looks good too!

i think then, i will buy the vx2100 because i geuss it will be worth the extra money right? ill have to buy a wide angle lense somewhere then
 
uhhhh no man...that's definitely not true at all. i've used several types of mini dv cams ranging all over the price range from expensive ones to medium ones to cheap ones, and there is definitely a difference in quality....
 
truely same.

papa you gotta use some in post production. its aballer camera and is real good. i think your not using it right.

what stock lens did yours come with? there is no stock mount lens.
 
I keep reading and kept trying different things all season. I dunno, I need lessons on the slope, I guess. 20 hours of tape farting around with it, really I am not dumb. I doubt it is too complicated. Next season I intend writing down the settings and playing back quicker.

The lens number is f=6-72mm 1:16 O58
 
thats not a mount on lens. its attached to it?  its not bad at all theres nothing you can do about it.

20 hours of tape is alot on a camera. my GL2 has like 10 and it serves me perfect. i also have a Vx2100 but havent used it lately. I

You just gotta learn the flow and compose every shot well and make it lookm good.
 
when i first got my 2100 i had the same problem, like the footage was worse than from my crappy walmart sony cam. but after about a month of alot of practice, the footage got amazing. you just cant be lazy at all!! manual focus and use all the manual settings pretty much all the time, screwing around with the manual white balance does alot. and use a tripod when ever you can.

my school has 2 dvx's and 2 little 1 chip cameras, and 4 mac pro's for editing and a ton of other crap, so like 20 grand total. and their footage looks like complete crap when they use the dvx's cause they dont know how to use it at all and just use the auto settings on everything. the 1 chip cameras atually look alot better.

but seriously, the vx1000 blows. Yeah, Im not a fan of VXs, but that doesnt mean they're bad cameras. It just means I dont prefer them.

the VX2100 is the way to go for skiing; its better lowlight, and best of all, it has a beefed up viewfinder.

Also, the vx1000 is like 11 years old now...its a piece of shit. Its common electronic knowledge that after 11 years of using the SAME piece of equipment, especially for something non-industrial and cheap like a video camera, time most definately effects quality. Old cameras suck, period.

It will break easier, its harder to get replacement parts, plus theres no LCD which REALLY sucks in my opinion. No I dont film with the LCD like a gomer, but it is almost mandatory in achieving a sharp focus.

I've used a vx1000, and I wanted to punt it into the freeway after filming for 10 minutes.

AND you will be filming skiing. That is possibly to worst climate to have a vx1000 in. Cold + vx1000 + normal wear and tear = new camera within 3 months.
 
1000s have better sound and better color, 2000s are better in low light and have an LCD screen.  unless you're going to be doing a lot of night urban, i'd get the 1000.  but if you're rich, you could get the 2100.
 
there is a lot of differences between the vx21 and the vx1 then just an LCD screen, the vx21 is by far the best for shooting at night, if you shoot with the vx1 at night then it's all grainy
 
you abviously have no clue what you are talking about..... take a look at High Five, if I'm not mistaken that was filmed on Sony PD150 which is almost the same camera as the vx2100 except w/ XLR inputs I think, now it's safe to say that video looks alot better than something that is made w/ a cheapo wal mart camera
 
2100 is the 2000 with a record button on the handle,

Papa,ill show you how to properly use your Vx2100 once skiing starts and we meet up and ski.

The hardest thing for you should be is setting exposure.A lot of people tend to under/over expose on Vx's.The only way I've ever learner to expose good is by using the zebra settings.They really come in handy if you know how to use them.
 
Oh ya and listen to Tanka.

Vx1000 is a really old camera and will not stand up to the cold conditions.If you want a vx I would go with a 2000 or 2100.

If your smart you will save your money for a dvx.I bought my vx2100 last year.After a few times I used it and got use to it,I said to myself,"I really wish I saved more money and got a dvx".
