What is the best ski bum car?

What is the best ski bum car that is reliable, you can buy used for cheap, has lots of space, can put on a crapload of miles and looks good.
 
Honestly, a mini van. It won't attract attention when parked somewhere for the night, has lots of room, and is decent on gas mileage. Sure it's crap in the snow, but shouldn't you be parked at/near the resort when it's about to snow anyway?

The question is, are you actually willing to be seen driving a mini van?

Also where are you finding cheap reliable pickups that run for a long time and look decent? Used Tacos are costly.
 
4 runner, outback/xc70 if maintenance history is good, I got a 2001 crv and snow tires make it a pimp in the winter, id just suggest a ski rack for whatever you get, my interior is trashed now.

I mean if you are looking for a mini van, the Toyota Previa can be purchased as a mid engine manual with AWD. Slap some winter tires and that thing is Gucci. Just make sure that if you don't have AWD, you will want winter tires.

Got handed a 2010 Audi A4 Avant and it handles everything like a champ.

keep an eye out for 2nd gen 4runners with the 22re 4 cyl. best combo ever imo. can pick up a decent one for anywhere between 1-5k. im in alberta
 
You should get a 4wd pickup and drop a camper in the bed. Propane heater, stove, bed, fridge, etc. You can live anywhere.
 
Any car that get you from point A to point B.

Pluses:

- Airbags

- ABS

- Good Fuel Economy

- Gear space

- People space

- Bitchin' ass sound system

- Low profile for minimal cop encounters.

...none of which my '88 Dodge W100 has. Except for space. I have a lot of bed space. I also look like a farm boy, so that's great for the low profile in small town America. Maybe I should throw a Trump sticker on there while I'm at it.
 
idk if anybody said this yet.. but you should consider a cargo van so you dont just have to ski bum.. you can really be a bum and get away with it (assuming bum is referring to one without a permanent residence)

Mini van is the way to go. so much room in those things and lots of models come with front wheel drive or all wheel drive. the fold down back seats are key, and if you need to you can haul all your friends around town. They may think it looks dorky but they won't complain when it has more leg room than their suv.

If you live in BC your always going to see Mitsubishi Delicas everywhere. In Alberta it’s all about the Chevy Express/Savana, Ford E series vans bought at auction. Starting to see the odd sprinter here and there.

Diesel E-Series are really solid cars, friend uses one as a dirtbike carry rig.

The only thing is you have to bulletproof that 6.0 powerstroke. It’s argueably the worst Diesel engine built.

Is that true - my friend was going on an on about how it was a bargain because of the 6.0 powerstroke, or maybe it's just a bargain in regards to what it would cost versus a truck instead of the van.
 
Once you bullet proof them, then they are fantastic, but as a stock Diesel engine they are garbage. Tons of articles online about how infamous they are.

Well since it’s a diesel it gets better mileage but I did put that stack on there to roll coal on protesters

I’m not I’ll probably have it for another 10 years or more, very reliable i dont get why people hate ford because if you take good care of it, it will last. A truck is a truck

My friend just got a AWD minivan. Seriously thinking about taking the same route. Tons of room to sleep/store shit since all the seats in the back can be fully removed.
