What is the best brand of hot wax to buy?

i used to race, and waxed my skis religiously. But honestly i have waxed my twins once, and their fine. unless you're super worried about speed, and you're mountain has a lot of flats, than i wouldn't worry about it too much. but i used swix for racing, its a little pricey though but super fast
 
i usually prep my skis with swix yellow (ch10) pre season, then wax with swix red (ch8) through out the season. Or you can just use red for everything as its good for base prepping too.
 
I have been using this free purple wax I got years ago at an event. Stays on much longer than any other wax I have used. I want to say it's Purl but I'm not positive.

Well all these other waxes are fine, its hard to beat Swix in terms of quality and variety of high performance, temperature specific waxes. Swix is an industry leader, and I'm sure its what most of the top racers are using. I doubt any of the small brands mentioned in this thread are used by any world cup racers.

But for freeskiing, that kind of nitpicking with wax is not needed, which is why a market exists for "cheaper" waxes that aren't insane expensive and can be used over a wide range of snow/temperature conditions. But technically, these waxes aren't as high performance as Swix's high end waxes.

 
Swix. Doesn't matter if I'm not racing, I prefer the quality goods, and can def notice the difference. Take care of your skis, and they will take care of you.
 
i usually just melt some plastic let it sit for a couple of minuets then scrape it off with my finger nails. its cheap and good for the enviroment
