What is Palisades Tahoe Management doing?

Yesterday was the opening day of the $65 million "Base to Base Gondola" (yes that is actually the name) to connect squaw and alpine. They hired Dillon Francis to play a set, had a big party to attract tourists event. Insane amount of people showed up.

Next day, the gondola doesn't even run. According to some insiders, they wont have gondola ready to operate until January due to testing and staffing. Meanwhile, Red dog chair is still being rebuilt and is more important in terms of skiable terrain that it allows access to including access to the only other lower mountain lift, resort chair, not including KT. Red dog construction also doesn't let Exhibition run which has access to some hidden terrain on pow days.

A positive note, theres a new experienced park groomer who made a sick Belmont park set up which is the only park right now (better than any set from last year), lifties set up the ropes in the morning today just to have management tell them they don't have enough staff to run the lift that day so it closed. Lot of staffing issues due to housing, which will always be an issue that management has yet to face.

I feel like management is dropping the ball on what could be a sick start to a season. Lack of planning over the summer by not meeting construction deadlines to open the resort as it should have. All easier said than done.

End rant. Can't complain about the snow pack.

Ahh yeah man i feel your pain. I Live at the base of the Creekside Gondola in whistler which was replaced this summer; but delays mean it may (hopefully) open for Christmas. I gotts to bus around now. Not the resorts fault, i guess thats the way supply chains are nowadays.

After reading about Mont Sainte Anne's recent gondola failure, I'm chill to give the lifts a bit more testing time lol

Don’t worry…Whistler has a fantastic track record with gondolas…

thats sarcasm. Google their accident

They are an absolute shit show. Grooming is trash..3ft vertical drops at the end of runs onto trails. Then KT is on "Patrol Hold" but opens at 9:15 instead of 9. That's not a patrol issue, it's just poor management. Saw them working on Belmont Thursday but, come on. Why can Mammoth have a full park and all Squaw can get together is the baby run. Pretty lame and I hope they get it together.

Too bad they don't have the Belmont lift running. you can get 1000 laps a day in there when there's no line.

There was an unprecedented amount of lift projects this year across the industry and most are behind schedule. Probably not entirely Palisades fault.

PC had a ton of delays this year as well, somehow they found out in November they needed to replace every grip on the jupiter lift, they finally opened it today even though its had enough snow to be open for awhile.

McConkey's and Silverload both had mechanical delays, heard about a few other minor issues but its like did you guys not do any work all summer?

Was pleasantly surprised with the new Belmont setup until they shut it down yesterday. Nothing super crazy but it’s the best I’ve seen from them in a while. It just pissed me off going through there yesterday and seeing new features put in just for the lift to not even be spinning.

I’ll admit Dylan Francis was hella cool to see though, and I’m not even much of an edm guy. Also took some Molly that day so that might be part of it lol. I just think it’s a step in the right direction for resorts to put on free events like that here and there as long as nobody’s neglected.

although we're all probably experiencing some short-term pain from staffing issues, i hope the resorts take it as an indication that people are no longer willing to work for $12-$14/hr for a lot of those jobs. if the resorts want to have happy customers (you know, the people who pay), they're going to have to start increasing wages to fill those vacancies. should be interesting to see how it plays out over the season.

it is also a good reminder that we should be very courteous to the folks who are working at the mountain. they're really feeling the pain of the reduced staff

You think owens valley pays for that setup lol

?? idk how that has anything to do with the park setup. Palisades hasnt had a huge dope park in a long time, mammoth has always had a big dope park, you're taking a shot at vail even though neither mountain in question has anything to do with vail, we get it dude.

Only you would take what I said as a shot at vail, why is that?

Socal pays for Mammoth to have a dope park 'cos there's no real alternative, unlike in Tahoe where an epic pass gives park skiers alternatives to Palisades.....so they'd focus on what they have that northstar and heavenly don't have.

i dont really agree but i also dont care.

you are the one who brought up vail and took a shot at them, im not sure how you could claim what you said wasnt a shot at vail. i dont care that you dont like vail, i dont like them either, but its so fucking annoying that every post you make has to mention or take a shot at vail.

There's pro snowboarders who are invested partners, to make sure the park is dialed. The drive up 395 is nascar shit compared to driving down from Reno, and flying in is a mess. All the money comes from socal, and they know it's coming 'cos socal don't buy epic passes.

You're really stretching tryna turn what I said into vail hate

People associate mammoth with LA.

Its a huge bitch to get to from the Bay even though its as far north as San Jose.

I don't know CA is big and it is in a different region than Tahoe.

Utah is pretty far west the flight from Boston a couple weeks ago was long AF and brutal didn't feel any shorter than going to SFO or Seatac.

its a 5 hour drive to mammoth from LA. Bear mountain is the LA local mtn but yeah mammoth the biggest resort in the area, its still not "socal".

Lmao you're complaining about the name of a gondola. Just ski and enjoy that in the near future you won't have to drive between both resorts.

when there isn't anything else to complain about, they still find something to bitch about
