Okay so I can't really sleep and I have been searching around the site and seeing all sorts of stuff about chads gap. yeah yeah yeah, another post thread about it and whatever, get over it! but serious though, what is so cool about chads gap. My brother tells me it was really cool a long time ago in skiing when people did penciled out tricks and then Tanner Hall and some other people hit it and did some 900 tricks.

But heres the deal, it's only like 120 feet or something right? well plenty of park jumps are that big... just look at the Breckenridge or Keystone edits, those jumps are just as big, but in a park, which makes it harder because the landings aren't as soft. I don't get the chance to jump on parks that big, but if I did, I know I would rather land in powder (like on chad's gap). so yeah, why is it so darn cool ?

if you do chads gap, your ankles will broke

its different than the keystone and breck jumps because you are landing on a pyramid almost. also, in the air, you are much higher off the ground than normal park jumps

Chads Gap is lengendary because it was one of the first true backcountry gap ideas introduced to the skiing world. Noone before ever had the idea of clearing a gap in the backcountry that big. So clearing that and putting it into movies brought backcountry gaps to other skiers, and then they started doing more gaps and other shit of that nature.

ur a 'todd. chads is twice as long as the biggest hits at keystone and breck. powder is harder to land in, than groomed corduroy. and it requires building a huge kicker and run-in since it run-in speeds are up to 60 mph. if you'd rather hit that than an oversized park kicker, you're ignorant.

you can't, ski patrol blew it up, it's only open to lollerbladers and snowboarders, i heard if you get too close they will blow you up too!!!!!!!!!!

and also, keystone or breck jumps, besides they;re not even close to be same size, they;re perfectly groomed on a blue run, chad in run going switch must be gnarly.

and like they said beforeme it was THE first big bc gap!

They did it in style though...

chads is definetly not compare to a park jump. its a huge mandatory gap in the bacountry with hardly any tranny between the in-run and lip of the booter. and landing in the park is a hell of alot easier then landing in the backcoountry whether it is powder or not. a park jump is a perfect manicured jump. chads a dirt tailing/dirt mound in the mountains left over from mining - little bit different then a park my friend. landing in all sorts of conditions and types of snow is much harder then landing and riding away on a groomed slope.

bascially chads is "cool" because it has helped set a higher standard of BC jumping. and it helps us skiers to see the progression in out sport and different people taking a stab at chads and showing you what the have got. from candide being 16 and d-spinning it, to sage and collins, to rice and friends going like 200 feet, to who knows whats next. its just like pyramid, people will be talking about a certain session that went down on those jumps for years to come.

thanks bro that was really good !

have you ever hit chads? it seems like not to many people get to do it besides the couple ns kids that did it a long time ago (along with all the pros)

do you even know how big is 120 feet?

the mother fuckin big bertha was 115 feet.

Just look at how big it is.

dude.... 120 feet is like the jumps that Jon and the MSP guys hit!!!! they do double flips on them!!! that means they are at least 100 feet (for the double flips and stuff) I think big bertha was the one that Candide broke his back on and stuff. I don't think that jump was 115, it looks way bigger. are you sure your not confused with meters or some other measuring system they got over in Sweden?

anyway, the jumps at breckenrdige and keystone are definitley 100+ feet. I see so many videos and they just look huge. plus the whole double flip thing makes them at least that big.

park jumps are the same way i think and completely based on the conditions, and shaping talent of the skiers or park rangers. if someone like jon olsson wants to re-master his jumps (like he did on his video blog during the Jon/Simon dumont contest, he goes and re-shapes them. I don't really hit jumps that big because i ski out of maryland and sometimes bigger places in the east, but i know that no one would hit something 120++++ in a park or in the bc if it wasn't a good time.

im pretty sure the biggest park jump open to the public this year was 95' up at whistler... you dont need a 100+ ft jump for doubles, you just need airtime (more vert)... and i dont know why you're still trying to compare a park jump, to one of the most insane gap jumps in history... no matter how much you may want it to be, its not the same, nor will it ever be the same...

From the NS coverage of the Candide :

"Some of the highlights this year include the return of Big Bertha (a 35-meter stepdown)"

if you convert, it makes 115 feet. Don't tell me that you've seen public jumps this big.

Also, you remember the big jump that Wilson broke his back on, it was 180 feet and he made it to something like 150-160. The guys on chad, if they land perfectly they clean like 140 feet. That's fucking huge.

You remember that a crapload of doubles were thrown on the JOI jump. My friend, it was 80-90 feet depending on the year. That's still very far from Chad's gap.

And yes, I verified all of my informations.

So Chad's gap is so damn cool because it is some gnarly shit.

Chad Zurinkas the guy that found it and tried to hit it but came brutally short both attempts

then Candide Hit it

dude, the biggest jump at either keystone or breck is 85 ish, and thats probably pushin it....

the jumps there are big, but not that big...the biggest park jumps that i have ever seen are big bertha (115) and that one fuckin massive jump in that video (120-130??)

anyway, chads is so gnarly....i cant even understand how those guys do that shit...just doing the inrun looks hard.

face the fact man, chads is just fucking rad

and no resort has 120 foot+ jumps open to the public in their parks, although i did read that there is going to be a 100 foot step down at one of the summer camps at whistler... coc? i think, but cant recall. its in the newest news article about the summer camps.

and chads is a fucking gap... mess up and your pretty much dead. do you have gaps at your keystone park in your mind too??

I thought so. but it still wasn't mandatory. plus it had a nicer in-run tranny and its a park landing, not a mound of untouched snow. chads is gnar bucket.
