What is best angle to grinde edges at.

I have recently perchased and new edge grinder and im wondering what all the fuss is about with the different angles you can grind your edges to?

What happened to good old fashioned 90 degrees?

Any info would be appreciated.

So im taking that as 87 underfoot and 89 everywhere else?

How come you change the angle then? just out of curiosity.

 
Are you suggesting he use a 3 degree base bevel? That's really squirrely.

Basically, the more acute you make the side/base angle (e.g. 88 degrees instead of 90) the better it is on ice/hardpack. A really high base bevel as suggested above means you have to tip the ski over farther in order to engage the edge. (i.e. it will be slower edge-to-edge and you have to exaggerate your movement).

I agree, 3 degrees of base bevel is not going to be good for all mountain. If you were doing nothing but sliding rails it would be ok. I use a 1 on the base and 1 on the side. I find that gives a good balance for all kinds of skiing.

round! if you live on the east coast your stuck with ice so you need edges...west coast have suck fabatbulous conditions edges arent needed
