What is beauty?

What gives us the idea that something is beautiful?

How has the idea of beauty changed?

My logic is beauty is in the eye of the beholder, does NS agree?

Beauty is to have all bodily features in the closest proportions possible. For example, the perfect women would have nose, eyes, forehead, eyebrows, cheeks, dimples, teeth, lips, chin, jaw, head size, hair length etc. in exactly the same proportion to eachother.

Eye of the beholder my ass, you fuckin noob.
 
all this "beauty is what society percieves it as" is bullshit and only an excuse for fat girls to still think they are beautiful.

I think its all genetics/what is the most useful. Like for example thin girls can run faster and are more healthy and therefore we want to make more of them, and boobs are used to nourish babies so the bigger the better. Same with hips and symetrical faces and all that.

meaning what? pretty much the only context i've heard this cliche in is someone trying to defend their opinion that something is beautiful but can't think of anything else to say. and this cliche may be true, but other people decide who the beholders are. someone saying "i'm beautiful" doesn't mean shit. on another note, i think beauty can come in the form of more than just the visual -- musical and emotional beauty exist too.
 
beauty is subjective. what makes something beautiful to me could make it awful to you, it's all about preference and the things we grow up around. that being said, every adjective in the world is subjective as well. to say something is horrible or great or sad or funny or pretty..... it's all subjective to each and every one of us.

the entire world is subjective in some sense. the colors we see are subjective (who's to say my idea of blue isn't your idea of red?), and every feeling is subjective as well because there is no way to compare my idea of happiness to your idea of happiness.

granted it is extremely likely that me and you both understand happiness as the same feeling, and we both see the color red the same way... but my red could be slightly darker or lighter than yours while your idea of happiness may be much less than my idea of it

then you can think even further if you wish, and ask yourself this - why the hell do we call the color red, red? why do we call the thing we sit in a chair? all the names we have for objects are just that, they're names... they're words we have assigned to correspond with the images we see... and that disconnect between the name we have for an object and what it really is fascinates me.
 
Beauty is when you can just sit there in the moment and take in what's going on around you indefinitely.whether its staring at the love of your life, being outside listening to the snowfall, or feeling the cool breeze coming off the ocean on a hot day.

seems like she would be the typical highschool bitch girl though.....

call me a faggot or whatever but there are very few girls i consider beautiful solely on a looks basis. like there are very few girls that i would call beautiful without getting to know them first. however, i find that once i get to know girls i found a great deal of them beautiful as long as they're real and deep. just by hearing their story and learning about their life i find it beautiful because life itself is beautiful and incredibly complex and interesting.

well said man. I know some extremely pretty girls who are just a fucking mess that I hate being around. I like to get in to a girl's mind before I decide what I think of them. there are a lot of really sexy girls out there who are just ratchets with nothing to say.

not to say i wouldn't bang the shit out of those really sexy girls, i just wouldn't be able to stand chilling with them haha
 
last week on our grad trip these kids from our school went around with the aliases Sylvester and O'doyle telling girls they were on a full ride playing hockey for michigan. everybody believed them completely./irrelevant
