Has anyone ever decifered an Aesop Rock song? I love him, but i cant figure out what he is talking about most of the time. If anyone has any insights please share

from what i can gather, he just takes everyday sayings and language and develops it to a more sublime level.

I'm pretty sure No Regrets is about an artistic introverted girl who did everything she dreamed about.

si. pretty good song too. except she was saying it wasnt dreaming because she knew and did what she wanted to do.

I did read his lyrics like poetry (or try to) and thats what prompted this thread. Other than the obvious ones like No Regrets, it all is so utterly confusing. I challenge someone to actually understand any of the other songs off Labor Days. Other than the chorus, they all seem like random fragments thrown together that dont mean anything

his lyrics just roll through my head all day long, i love it

New Aes rock album out today "None Shall Pass" everyone go buy it because it is another amazing piece to the aesop rock puzzle

Each song isn't about one thing, but a bunch of things that when used as metaphors make up a bigger idea. He playes with sayings and language in general into a somewhat incongruous pattern of thought

It all means something, it all makes sense, you just have to listen to it tons before you can understand how to read into how he spells stuff out.

This is the general way his songs go, not all of them.

i interpreted daylight as less the imputrities of middle class/city life and more focusing on raising above those impurities, but they are just dreams not reality.

"This origami dream is beautiful

but man those wings will never leave the ground

Without a feather and a lottery ticket, now settle down"

what hes saying is that unless you somehow win the lottery your chances of raising your social class is just a dream.

yeah thats a no brainer. girls a loner, she draws with chalk, not a lot of friends. becomes an artist, bangs another artist. grows old and dies happily because she did exactly what she wanted to do in life
