What happened to skiing?

It sucks. Does anyone remember skiing back before all this fashion show, baggy cloths bullshit? Los Alamos, Subject to Change, The Game, Ski Movie, Area 51.... It used to be far more core. It was the thing you do, because you love it. Now it seems like it's the thing to do to be cool. So, if you remember back then when CR was hucking 14's, and JF had badass segments, and no body landed anything, and it was amazing, say "I". I'm just curious to see who was around back then, and also, what was your favorite movie?

Later.

im 14, and when i was younger i used to watch ski movies and think cool, i wish i can do that. then i forgot about skiing for a while and just got back into it last year. but yeah, shit is cool now, shit was cool then. fav movie prolly is the front line

i still watch area 51 all the time. its one of my favorite ski movies. skiing really has changed since then. i think it was better when people were just out there playing around and doing all sorts of crazy things rather than worrying what they are going to wear the next day.

yo also if u watch ski movie 2 and ski movie 3 like in a row, its weird to see how all the skiers like, idk, grew up? but its like that with a lot of other ski movies also

I dunno...I still enjoy skiing just as much, and I always see lots of people ripping it up and having fun wherever I go.

As long as you dont care about those people who where super baggy clothes and the people who arent core anymore, it shouldnt matter to you.

I

I!

I can't remember the name now... I loved the first movie the phils were in. The three of them talking about not being able to compete in a halfpipe contest cause they were skiers. Then they got in, but weren't allowed to do inverts. But they did anyways and got 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

I love the old stuuff.

skiing has always and will always be fun...

untill greenhouse gasses kill our ozone and we run out fo snow..

Whether it's changed for the better is debatable; the important thing is that skiing has changed. Eventually the perfect balance between huck and cool will be found, but it's important to keep the sport from becoming stagnant.

I! my dude...

i bet ive watched THE GAME about 100 more times than ive seen any new-er ski movies. old PBP movies were my life

especially 13

wow los alamos, the first time i saw that film got me so pumped to ski. so much more pumped than i've ever been watching anything newer. i still watch the game, i have it on video the colour stopped working but it still rocks in black and white.

i'm pretty sure just about all of us ski because we love it... saying kids ski to be cool is pretty lame, and in my opinion, a misguided statement.

anyway, fav movies from "back in the day": degenerates, global storming, 13 and the game

The same thing happened to snowboarding...at first you boarded because you loved the sport and the feeling it gave you. Then it grew into the "cool" thing to do and the only thing you worried about was having the newest outerwear and being seen in the park. But there always were the 'core guys who rode because it was in their blood, not because it was the latest fad. We still have those types of skiers and I'm happy to be one of them. I still rock the duct tape on my gloves instead of buying new ones.

I definately hate how skiing became all "gangster" just like everything else in the world. I mean i personaly think that baggy clothes look completely retarded.

Despite it being the style, I think baggy is better for skiing. Unless you're rocking a skin-tight racing suit, you don't have free range of motion. Eventually, something won't stretch far enough. I am a fan of little shirts and tight jeans, but when I want to freeski it has to be baggy enough for me to move.

i remember. but i kind of like it now, if you look past the whole fashion bandwagon thing. i mean. you have to agree, slower rather then hucked does LOOK better. d

that was kind of dumb because you onnly ski if you love it if you want to be some cool bad ass you snow board but i love skiing thats how it has alwas and well alwas be

skiing is now about what looks good, and to some people tight clothes look better and some people like baggy clothes, same on the huck and style case. i know it's been said a hundred times and very obivous but people have different ideas of what looks good, so there's always going to be hating in skiing.

for some reason i have problems when a lot of people do things that i used to call "core". i have no problems if nice and good skiers get into the newschool, but i really have problems if it comes up to these people that arent interested in the FREEskiing lifestyle and just do it because its the thing to do right now.

i started to tele beside skiing pretty much regarding the fact that almost noone over here does newschool-teleing. its also a funny thing to do, it reminds me of the time when i was the only newschooler on the hill and noone was worrying about style more than about having fun on the mountain.

the thing, that i might wanted to express, is that people (including me to be honest) that were members of a "core" and "newschool" movement tend to have problems with the fact that the movement isnt "core" anymore.

also it cant be really called "newschool" anymore since "newschool" expresses (or tries to at least) some kind of revolution against older standards. since all this new people dont know why the newschool movement started and what some of the general ideas (having fun and having fun without restrictions of the FIS) behind all that were, you cant really call it "newschool".

lets come all to the conclusion that it shouldnt matter how good you are since you are openminded and participating positively in the thing that is sometimes referred to as the freeskiing community.

i think all of you need to watch slc punk. the final message is probably the greatest of all time. so my advice is shut the fuck up about who's core who's a poser and if you like skiing for whatever reason it may be then ski.

I

everyone has just become a dick to everyone because some person may not be as good as some one else u know what i mean

skiing is fun if you make it fun. I hit the slopes with my buddies, do what we feel like and have a good time, if anyone disagrees and wants to be an ass and constantly worry about how they look, then that's their problem.

old movies are the best.....

but i enjoy skiing more now cause i have improved and can do better crap....and i dont worry about my cloths just my skis

My friend Denielle had Los Alamos and The Game...that shit's what got me stoked. Happy Dayz was the first movie I bought.

Propaganda......Happy Days, and Salad Days was pretty good. I still have my old 1080s.Hey another thing, wern't skis built better back in the day. Man my 1080s went to hell and back and they are still in GREAT shape. Like they have scratchs, and chips in the top sheet. But the bases are still good, and the edges are perfect. No delaming, nothing. Plus Lat's Enemy K2s only started to go this year, and he still rides them. Edges sticking out, broken ski brakes, delamed, everything. Those are still kicking. Like i see the invaders,4FRNT, Armada, pretty much all the brands and i hear all sorts of stories about delaming and shit.
