whats up with the WSI shit. You have to follow a format in the final of what trick you can throw. What the fuck. That sounds lamo to me. Why not just have a meeting with the judges and riders and be like, we dont want 10s if you throw a 10 there is a very good chance your score will suck. That way the skiers wont throw it but can still pick the trick they want to do.
 
its a freeSTYLE event.

We know all the top pros can tose sw rightside cork 10's. This event is going to be judges on how stylied out any one trick can be.

I think it is an awsome concept.
 
I like that they mix up the format and make riders throw a certain rotation, but i do agree that it could be restrictive and limit the potencial of the comp. I dont think it would be cool to have a meeting with the judges and say you might score really low if you do a 10. That just wouldnt work. that would make the comp unfair because everyone who has the 9s and 12s on lock would do well and someone who wanted to do a 10 would do shitty. riders should not be told what they cant do.
 
I actually liked the format of the competition. It forces the riders to be more creative and focus on style and making shit look perfect rather than seeing who can spin the most or something. I agree it is in a way being restrictive, but I think it's for the better. I'd much rather see a switch 7 true nose or something over a swith 10 mute anyday. I like the technical, stylie stuff, therefor I like this format and the way it makes the riders select their jumps more carefully.
 
why not make a limit of like one 1080 or something like that cuz its still nice seein a sick switch 10 like tj's in xgames.
 
why not have a comp just like every other comp, but remove the technical difficulty score? that way it would be amplitude and style, and youd see some of the sickest runs ever, not just tony hawks pro skater on snow.
 
your idea would be no different than this. i enjoyed it because it made them be more creative...and thats what its about. but if your going to use the FREEstyle argument then there really is no use having comps because no matter what its going to be about the judges opinions.
 
I think it is actually a cool format because the judges aren't judging the trick they're judging the smoothnes and all around style rather thand the bs spin to win witch is what was happening for a little while and u still get to see dope tricks liek 7's and 9's and there was no rule like that said they had to take of straight or switch it was the riders choice.
 
^well if u can throw a great sleezed 1080 then u should be able to, i think they should jugde u on how u execute the trick so if it's a shitty 10 they'll take points away and if it's good add points.
 
umm but if your not allowed to throw a ten then how does that make it free either, why do people care so much what people think of what other people do.. SKI UNIT! like at my mountain there are kids making fun of me for doing truckdrivers(which i just learnt) and they are like "man those are so old, move onto sompthing new"... whats going on! ahhh
 
I see this trend going on not jsut in comps, but everywhere else too. people talking shit if someone does a grab onto a rail or doing a one footed grind, saying that no one should be doing this or that, just shut up and ski. if someone wants to grab onto a rail let them do it, they are jsut expressing themselves through FREESTYLE skiing, which is supposed to have no rules, or limits.

people are drawn to action sports due to the fact that there are no rules, its not a formal sport where you need to keep a certain form or are restricted and limited, yo can fully express yourself through sliding down snow or rolling down a hill. and to say that one should not perform a certain manouver because it 'looks bad' to a certain few that defies the whole point of the sport.

Do you mean like grabbing while you disaster or grabbing while you slide. Cause when Olenick does that double grab 270 disaster at Northstar in War, I pretty much shit myself.

And immediately stole it.
 
The restictions here are minimal at best. All they are saying is that you have to do a given roation.

Woo big deal. Do you know how many different ways you can through a 720 (right side, left side, switch right side, sw left side; not to mention ALL the different grabs combo's...or mistys, or rodeos...)?

This is still very much a FREEstyle event.

Its about as restictive as a big air in saying "your only allowed to his this one jump"

Things are as restictive as you make them seem.
 
They are NOT telling you what trick to through...what dont you get about that?
 
fuck format in events.. if the judges are looking for someither than they can judge like that... they shouldnt restrict riders. all they have to say is that they are looking for steez not huck
 
So what do you call it when someone says, you have to do a 720 on this hit. I think thats called being told what trick to do. Yes you can do that trick how ever you want to, but your still being told what trick to do.
 
Yes its cool that judges are finally focusing on style. Yes, I hate seeing the switch 10 10 times in a row.

BUT: Competitions used to be about pro's throwing the most INVENTIVE trick, or even creating new ones. This format doesnt allow that at all, which sucks somewhat. But i guess that doesnt really matter if a switch 10 wins everything.
 
exactly, so why set ground rules limiting the riders. let them do what they want, thats the point of the sport. the point of the judges are to judge how it looked and how it was executed

its FREE STYLE...you do what you want, and style it how you want, and hope the judges like it, but theres no reason to tell them they cant do certain things, thats just abuse of power
 
Dude, I agree with you to the T. I say, since nobody can be happy, let's just outlaw competitions. And with that, we don't really need pros, or we couldn't really have them since there's no venue for them to see who is the best. Then we could rule out companies, because they'd go under without having atheletes to sponsor, and then we could just kill the sport.

Everyone stop bitching. It's going to be a sick ass event and that's all that should concern you.
 
Definately man.

Does a little variety hurt the sport? NO.

Did the new format of the Back 9 hurt? NO.

Does the Masters hurt? NO.

Its just vairety in the comps people.

Do you wanna watch the same styled comp's with the same pros doing the same shit all winter?
 
James, read a few posts up to get an idea of what im trying to say here. Clearly you missed the ball.
 
if everyone is limited to a certain rotation, that means whoever throws the dirtiest version of that rotation wins.. i dont get what isnt freestyle about that, the point is the comps are trying to take out the spin to win concept and replace it with a much more freestyle concept. when you think about it, its not as much freestyle when you have to toss a 1440 to win vs. a dope 5 or 7 or even 9.
