Like really. They have lost Calum Pettit, Anthony *Bornowski*, and Julian Regnier this year. I mean those are really good big mountain skiiers. Did armada just run out of money or what?
If I was to guess I would say it is because they were not doing anything good for the company. They were not doing good in comps, or putting out segments that represents the company.
Sometimes contractual agreements can be a bitch...
Go look at their National team...there are some very underrated names there that will for sure end up filling the void left by the big names...Armada has always kinda looked more for up and coming talent than try and sign names that are already huge (even though Hornbeck is a "big name" to a lot of people...Armada will help bring him to a whole new level).
its funny how companies that pay for advertising on NS don't get any negative news coverage. When WME tried to stomp level 1 NS news went into overdrive. But the updates were non existent when julien was dropped from armada and when scott were tools to ON3P.
Not really complaining, NS is a business these things happen. But what do other people think? should we, as a skiing community demand more impartiality? or are the forums enough?
It was actually very big news when Scott sued ON3P, and most of the team drops are talked about in the Contributors Forum (there's a thread that has inside dirt for contributors), it's usually just talked about when someone joins a new company, trying to keep it positive (obviously, if they've joined a new company, they've left the old one). It really has nothing to do with advertising, it's just about big names, really big names that change sponsors get the front page (Wallisch), others get threads...but the kids on this site pay very close attention to who's riding for who.
Alex bellemare has been with armada for some time now.
I think its because of the economy was not going so well so they did not have a lot of money to give for big names so having some good am's like bellemare and spencer millbocker does not cost a lot so they can sponsor a couple of am's for the price of 1 pro.
i'm not talking about thread discussions. 99% of whats happening in the industry comes out of the threads on this site.
I'm talking about impartiality from what gets published in the updates. Like when julien was dropped, know went to armarda and said "Hi i'm from newschoolers, Why has julien been dropped?" and asked 50 other questions about the situation. the ON3P issue was played in threads by those that are involved in the company, not an interview with scott or on3p.
I'm not saying that the info in the treads is wrong, but there is a lot of ill informed bullshit that gets thrown about in those threads as well. separating the wheat from the chaff is tough sometimes.
My comment was more along the lines that the official NS updates are biased.
byydropping julien one of the ogs of freeskiing they showed there true colours..
to little bitches like that fat cunt eheath that talk shit about julien not doing anything.. your all dum
julien has had some fukin amazing segments.. is the editor of WEski one of europes biggest ski magazines.. and is on this months cover of weski dropping a fuckin insane drop on a crazy line in ak
....
julien is the man.. armada is turning into a corprate company.. just like every other big ski company..
they were started to bring loyalty and a coreness to skiing..
even julien posted on here about how he didnt see it coming.. armada was meant to be a family originaly when jf, jp , anothony, julien, boyd and tanner all signed on originally
skiing doesnt really give enough props to its legends..
sure there guys like plake but hes a god..
look what happened to kent kreitler he was at one point the most progressive skier on the planet..
and now hes forgotten..
there is footie of him doing cork 3s in 1995..
skiing need sto look to sports like surfing .. that look after there legends..
Julien is a fukin legend... who else got 6th in moguls at the olympics at 17
and threw a 3 mute in finals just like moesley.. and had some of the most epic segments ever scene..
ie.. properganda, the game.. 1242.. and numerous other sick segments
in my opinion armada showed its true colours by dropping julien
your so right, Julien is an amazing skier.
2008 and 2010 were my first years going to Haines Alaska and Julien was the man who helped me feel comfortable in the mountains up there.
It is guys like julien that care about skiing and its future and I totally agree with you that he has done so many amazing things for skiing.
The knowledge I gained from him in AK is a perfect example of why we should respect the legends.
I agreed with you 110% until the very last sentence.
Armada has certainly gone from cool to wack, but they do make real good shit and can be found in just about every ski shop. Props to them on the business side. Still, skiing is nowhere near as cool as it used to be. And personally I would much rather see a legend like Julian on the cover of a magazine or in a movie shredding a fucked up pow line than a skinny ass 16 year old on a handrail in Minnesota. Respect to the "OGs".
Ian Provo is the dopest backcountry skier out right now. Check his blog:http://ianprovo.blogspot.com
NS has never set out to be the impartial ski industry news source. I think it would be a great thing for them to strive for, but considering site costs already, not possible right now.
And for that matter, no matter how official and impartial you appear to be when you go ask a company a question like that, you'll likely get "no comment". Its really rare that any company wants a dispute or under the scenes garbage aired.
99% was used to make a statement not a fact, but it is foolish to call to wrong as well. this site encompasses more to do with freeskiing than any other media source.
I completely understand that has to be the case, I mentioned the business aspect in an earlier post. But I think a concerted effort in that department would add depth to this site that could benefit our community. but NS is a brand, and sometimes news stories that may be of interest to this community clash with where the brand is going.
sad to agree with this point specifically.
off topic but on the subject of the good ol days, remeber happy dayz? parkasaurus? when tanner's "gorilla steeze" was the hot shit?
Tanner Hall, JP Auclair, Phil Casabon, Mike Hornbeck, Riley Liboe, Jacob, Provo, Brady, Bellemare, Kim,.... man what happend to that team, they really need to pick up some talented skiers!
Armada has one of the better teams for a ski company in my opinion. Just not all contents guys, which I'm feeling!
Armada really dropped the ball by dropping Julien. He's probably one of the top 5 most influential people in freeski history, top 10 certainly. As if that wasn't enough, Armada obviously thought he wasn't killing it anymore. Having watched revolver, turns out they were wrong. Really wrong. Anyways, Black Crows are legit as fuck, so I'm pleased Julien is slaying on them.
