What Guitar Amp should I Buy?

I'm replacing my Epiphone dot with a Fender Telecaster standard with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound Pickups soon, and have been using a line 6 pod with computer speakers too long.

any amp recommendations for $150-$300 that would be good for playing ratatat, radiohead, some muse--music like that?

go to your local music store and tell the salesmen what you're looking for. they can point you in the right direction and let you try out any amps you want.

i use a few effects. maybe a maximum of 5 on my pod, at least amp models, effects probably 3-4

eeeebbbbaaaayyyyy

go tube if at all possible, get at leastt a 1x12 combo, for jamming with a drummer, i'll recommend a fuzz pedal for ratatat shit

yep. tube 1x12 sounds perfect. for that "indie" sound you seem to be going for, a fender tube amp will nicely compliment your telecaster.

not really related, but i'm building my own tele right now, so stoked! I already cut and routed the body, I have to buy a neck and the electronics, as well as finish (lacquer) the body. I'm going with a 4 way switch and Fender CS Nocaster '51 pickups. teles are awesome!

Build your own, it so much more rewarding to have a neck built to your own personal specifications. Not to mention neck shaping is one of the most enjoyable aspects of building a guitar.

line 6 spiders are insanly nice. they have so many effects and the 75 could easily keep up with a loud drummer.

If he has a POD he doesnt need an amp with effects. Go try out some of the Crate amps, my buddy uses them in our band and they sound wicked nice. Whatever you do, dont get a Fender amp unless your going to be playing it clean. Otherwise Fender amps are shit.

hey brah.

i play out 5 times a week with my POD X3 Live.

I would mos def reccomend finding a solid-state(transitor) amp with an effects loop.

that way you could by pass the preamp of the amplifier and use the POD for the basis of your sound.

Either that or an Active(powered) PA monitor. Beringer makes a good one for around your price range.

those are generally 120w and will sound amazing with your POD infront of it.

If you are going for a tube amp, I would say a Vox Valvetronix would be pretty good. but it is a good idea to play an amp before you buy it. Go to Guitar Center and ask a sales rep to show you all the amps in your price range.

Also

check Ebay. I scored a 212 fender for $180 in MINT condition.

Only bid on an amp that is in REALLY good condition. That it will almost always be newer and better taken care of.

and you might want to check on of these out...

thats true, but in his price range he cant really get a very good tube amp, go for a solid state.

well the best thing you can do is bring ur guitar to a store and test it out on different amps. your amp drives your tone the most so its what sounds the best for you. if you dont wanna do that, i'd reccomend that one up there. the vox ad50vt has a tube in the preamp which gives it more tube tone than a normal solid state. its also got on board digital effects like all the line 6s except these dont suck. vox is a good manufacturer. so if you want an amp with a lot of effects, good tone, and durability get this.

oh yeah and it is best to go tube if its in your budget. its good sound but the only problem is that it's really loud. and if you wanna look around for more amps check out peavey amps. theres the valveking, classic, transtube, and windsor series you should check out

whoa there! it matters what sound you're going for. if you want some blues growl/fuzz, fenders are actually great. although, if your style is high gain distorted tone, for metal or hardcore or something, i agree, fender amp could be a bad choice.

i will eventually, right now i don't have the money to invest in the tools necessary. i'm just going to buy a 69 or 72 RI neck off ebay for this one, i like the U shape, 7.25" radius and 1 5/8" nut.

i have a randall RX75( i think im really to lazy to go to my room and look), but anyway, its a pretty versatile amp. it doenst sound amazing clean but i have a digitech RP250 and that makes it sound great. i never go past the fourth volume level either this thing can scream. i would give randall a shot. the distorted settings arent bad either
