What format do you render hd video in?

I've tried avi and mov but they end up beinglike a gig and too big to upload to vimeo. what do you guys use?
 
Vegas can't do h.264 so your best option with it is probably .wmv. You can also do a custom .mp4 render, but I hate using QuickTime stuff with windows.
 
Personaly, Quicktime > WMP for me any day. I can't stand WMP, I export all my edits to .mov nowadays...
 
I see what you're saying. I tried .mov a couple times, but I could never get a small file size and good quality. Vegas does not let you render into h264. What do you edit with/what do you render as?
 
I edit with Premiere CS3 (perhaps a tad old as well considering CS5 is now out) and export to .mov compressing with either h.264 or mp4. This gives me big file sizes but I further compress with Streamclip.
 
i have vegas pro 8 and i cant upgrade because my computer sucks. any video compressing programs i can use?
 
alright. i dont know why so many peoples dicks are all over vegas. it is honestly the worst program i have ever used. if you have a pc. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD USE ADOBE PREMIER PRO CS3 CS4 or CS5. there is NO reason not to. use your interweb skills to pirate it. VEGAS sucks dicks. k?
 
I use Vegas pro 8 and most of the time I pick wmv because my computer can barely edit hdv footage. It keep the render time down, and upload size small, but still gets decent quality.
