What external monitor do you use?

I’m looking to buy an external monitor for filming skiing. I am interested in the Andycine A6 plus, but was wondering what you more experienced filmers use. Thanks!

I wouldn't recommend it unless you 100% need it. I've considered it in the past but I was happy I didn't have to deal with an external monitor on hill. For urban/BC filming it certainly could be very useful, I wouldn't wanna cruise around the park with an external, but I know plenty who have done it.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll probably wait in getting one. But what settings do you have your gimbal at? How responsive do you keep the motors when filming?

Never used a gimbal, im old school with the glidecam.

I wouldn't mind one but don't feel I can justify the expense. Plus it opens your camera ports to moisture

Ended up copping one for filming lax with my GH4...ended up selling immediately because the GH4 actually has a decent lcd screen. Also you have to take into account how it reacts in the cold. I think it was around 30-35F and shit died within the first 15 min quarter (even with the monster sony batteries). Currently own an a6500 now and think it's mandatory because the lcd's blow. I think feelworld get's decent reviews considering how affordable they are, probably would be my move

I run an Atomos Ninja V with my GH5. The ninja is also a recorder though, which allows me to shoot 4k60 10-bit, as well as record everything in ProRes. Def not necessary for everyone, just depends on your intended purpose. Used it filming BC all season. Would happily run it in the park as well. The Atomos Shinobi would be a much better option if you only want a monitor.

+1 on feelworld, many freelance videographers use them. the f5 looks nearly identical to the andycine one he listed, but comparing the BH spec page seems to suggest the F5 has some 4k support that the A6 doesn't have

They're fine but when it gets cold (10 degrees Farenheight or so or lower) it will randomly shut off on me during filming. The whole screen goes pink and it needs a restart (which takes longer than you think).

Feelworld is dogshit mate. Spend the extra money and get an Atomos.
