i need something better than movie maker what should i get i have a limited budget but not sure what it is i am on a windows and ive seen premiere pro and its sick which one should i get cs6 or what is there a difference between them all

Just go on youtube and search how to get adobe premiere___(whatever) free

There are little difference between the different ones but im not sure what they are, they add little features and change the interface sometimes

CS6 is such a huge step from cs5 (IMO) I love CS6 so much and i was never a fan of CS5 the interface of 6 is alot cleaner and easier to understand and cs5 never felt solid

CS6 premier is amazing. I've been starting to use it more and with the FCP7 shortcut keys, its literally the same but faster and smoother. For a beginner like you, id recommend maybe something like sony vegas, premier will be pretty confusing at first.

I haven't done nearly as much editing as many of you, but coming from that standpoint (and you being just getting in to it) this may help -

I agree completely, I've used FCP since highschool, recently got on that Premiere CS6 / Speedgrade program. It's SO nice, very easy to use. I love it.

Yeah premiere CS6 is ridiculously fast. No rendering and presets are done right away. Biggest con is lack of color 1.5 so I gotta get proficient at looks

i just made the jump from premiere cs3 to cs6. The reaosn I was on cs3 for so long is because cs4 and 5 worked super shitty for me. Cs6 works so fast and never crashes, love it

For all you CS6 users, I'm just curious here, did they change/add anything to the color correction system? It really lacked in CS5. Also, even if they didn't change it, is it really worth it in terms of speed to upgrade?

I cannot stress this enough. I now have the WORST coloring workflow ever round-tripping into Color from PP. Speedgrade is beyond a terrible program, I'd stay away from it.

The full three wheel color corrector in cs6 has been upgraded a bunch.

That being said, the fast color corrector is still fine for my needs.

I haven't used Looks to any great extent. Coming from a decent comfort zone in Apple Color, Speedgrade is incredibly foreign. I like the concept that Adobe is going for to "redefine" color correction/grading, with the adjustment layers system. However, the actual program is confusing and non-intuititve. I spent a couple days trying to learn how to accomplish a basic correction, but had little to no luck. There isn't even a file menu within the program... Again, I think the idea is right, but the execution just isn't there (yet).

Coming from Color (the program), everything has a set area, with rooms for primary corrections, secondaries, effects, and so on. The timeline is consistent with the layout of the NLE programs, so everything is where it should logically be. I still don't fully understand how to navigate the Speedgrade timeline. Additionally, Color has all scopes available, whereas Speedgrade only has a parade waveform and histogram? Unless I'm missing a huge piece of how to fully operate Speedgrade, I will likely never open the program again until they seriously upgrade it.

These are just a couple of my initial thoughts that were strong enough for me to force a new workflow with Premiere Pro and Color..

* Also to be noted - when I was testing Speedgrade, I was in a trial of Production Premium - maybe the program was limited under the trial?

(Apologies for the negative rant and somewhat off-topic post)

Can I get a link to a edit of someone useing Sony Vegas it sounds sweet is the quality really good and titles and banners a nice font and stuff like what are some of its features I'm on mobile so I will look most of them up when I get on a computer

try demoing adobe's systems to see which you like! to test out complexity and flexibility within the programs. demoing adobes systems help me a ton to preview what i might buy

Look up avid studio! i had windows movie maker and it sucked then i got avid and it is soooooo good. i highly recommend it over any other and its not too expensive. like 160 i believe and its well worth the money!

ended up getting sony vegas pro 10 and avid studio for about 160 can wait to start using them also saved enough money for me to get stepts 3 pack of movies and almost enough to get a rode videomic

That is actually the first video I watched (Vincent Laforet has some amazing work). I just can't find any sort of efficiency with the most basic of tasks in the program. I'm currently looking into some other possibilities for coloring that have been around for longer. I've tried Davincii Resolve Lite briefly, which was also insanely confusing. With Davincii, I know that the learning curve will be worth while because the program has been accepted universally for years, rather than Speedgrade, which may fade out after CS6 (though that probably won't happen - just a drastic example).

Either way, congrats to the OP for making a decision. Can't wait to see what you come up with moving forward!

definitely either adobe or final cut. but if you are a beginner, i would probably go with final cut. you can easily get lost in adobe premiere if you don't know what you are doing at first.

+1 for adobe. I'd suggest you definitely try out adobe's CS6 production premium, its a free 30 day trial, to see if you like it. Premiere is pretty intuitive imo. It's also super easy to crack, just copy one file into the program file for each program (After effects, photoshop, premiere, etc).
