It is incredibly difficult to progress the sport in the big mountain arena. Just handling sick lines and surviving is a huge accomplishment. It takes a very long time to change things in big mountain. There has not been anyone since Jonny Moseley who can kill truly sick big mountain lines AND win x-games gold in the same year. Tanner is going in that direction, so that most definitely is progression. There are other guys who can kill it on jumps and in big mountain, Abma, CR, Sage, a bunch of others. It is really great to see Tanner going in that direction.
Tanner may want to progress Alaskan riding, which takes getting to an insane level first. I applaud him for going in that direction. I would rather see a sick spine wall than a backwards pow landing any day. If it was Tanner on that spine wall, or on that pillow line, then I applaud him. He has become one of the best skiers in the world, and he is pushing the sport in the right direction.
