As above - i think it's a french things as a lot of my french friends seem to do it.

Exhibit A:

"hey! It was great seeing you at the weekend. Hope to see you soon! ^^"

What does the "^^" mean? Is the same as putting xx or xox at the end of a text? When did this turn up? Why those arrow things? Why not just sick to x's or x's and o's?? Why change the game? Why push the boat out with such craziness? Why ns?

i think its supposed to be an asian smiley face? ^.^ but lazyer. and people dont do it on NS cause thats fucking gay and nobody likes eachother anyways

In the beginning, it came from this smiley " ^_^ " which comes from some familiar anime face.

It usually means something along the line of "lol", "ahah" and so on.

I suspected as much. It is in fact mostly female friends who use this symbol, but I didn't mention this in my original post as I didn't want to make out I was such a stud and intimidate the other members of NS . Seems a legitimate explanation - I'll take it!

Ah but you see the period is missing from the centre of the two arrows in all of my cases- Does that still constitute a smiley face?

Just the two arrows on their own seems like a bit of an half arsed attempt at a smiley face - If it is a smiley face as you say, then I feel rather short changed at being presented with an incomplete face. I demand a complete face! What friends are these?!

Don't worry - I never overthink things like this - that is why I made a whole thread about this nonsense

I still don't buy the smiley face argument though as logical as it seems

Ok I'll believe you! If you think in some way that I'm upset that is the answer don't be! I'll take it on the chin. Don't be sad for me - I'll make it through! ^^
