What does everybody have against pole straps?

if your skiing tight trees with your pole straps on and your pole gets stuck in a branch, say goodbye to your shoulder.

One of my friends who does it says its easier to put your hands on top of the grip. I've had to pick up his pole for him at least 3 times per day

i don't use pole straps for two reasons:

1. i found my poles under a lift and they didn't have any in the first place

2. although it gets annoying when you drop them sometimes, if i'm falling or skiing in glades i want my poles to be able to fall away from my body. no one wants to go head over heels with two metal sticks alongside them

this. my straps are still attached to my poles, but i don't ever put my wrists through them. i'd rather lose a pole than lose a wrist/shoulder/arm.

ok i understand the whole losing a shoulder argument, but my friend that i ski with has no straps and he loses a pole maybe once every other run

i cut mine off because i never used them, and they just got in the way, i feel like i have a whole lot more freedom without them, but its just something i do. the kids i ski with usually think its weird

I dont have them because when I know I'm gonna fall on a rail or a jump I just drop them instead of eating them in my face or somewhere else... They are also kinda annoying when you dont have them arround your wrist.

I feel the same way. Except once I dropped them and the pole stuck in the snow and I when i came down I nailed my chin on the top of the pole. So now im not sure if I should rethink my strategy.

so i stomped a rodeo 5 at camp of champs, but i landed on my pole, the pole straps pulled me down backward so i was sitting back seat switch, got a good visual? well, everyone thought I landed it but when i hiked to the deck of the jump I showed my back to my friend and coach revealing a huge gash... the tail of my ski had penetrated my back, and i was fingering the wound like a wet pu$$y,

THAT IS WHY I DONT WEAR POLE STRAPS, AND WHEN I TAKE THEM OFF, I MOUNT THEM ABOVE MY BED FOR S&M

yesterday i vowed never to wear straps again when hitting rails after hyperextending my thumb from falling...yes i was holding them right.

a couple reasons...

I sit on my poles on the lift, i dont want to put my hands in and out of the loops 10000x

I don't want my hand ripped off if they get stuck somewhere

I've gotten my ski wrapped in the strap when grabbing blunt and landing with your ski stuck to your hand is not fun.

better for street fights

i don't use pole straps because they're plain annoying but the kids who say they don't use them for the reason of throwing away their poles when they fall are fucking pussies.

yeah eat your pole in your stomach and scrap your whole season because youre a fucking pussy? gtfo ignorant kid

I stopeed using them when I was a wee little one and lifties would always say poles in one hand and I didn't like pulling my hand out of that loop. I am just used to holding my poles, the only time I ever lose one is if it gets stuck in the snow when I am trying to push myself forward.

one of my straps broke a few years ago and i just stopped using the other. I've dropped my poles a couple times, but only when im pushing with them on flat ground and they get stuck in the snow.

a friend of mine got a pole in the leg after he landed a jump, it didn't end that well, so i like the idea of being able to pole ditch at any moment. also the tree argument...

this this this! that is exactly why i take mine off. also if i fall in the park i would rather let go of them and yard sale a little than destroy my side or pole when i roll.

I grew up using pole my straps and have never had an issue. Do you people know how to use your fucking straps? They don't rip your arms off and maybe Im lucky but I have never stabbed myself. Although my poles are scott so they got top of the line straps you know. Thats probably what it is.

if you fall with your pole in your hand its way easier to sprain a thumb, much easier to drop em without straps

I almost never drop my poles and I never use them. Even when I fall hard I don't usually open my hand. Maybe it's the years of playing hockey and getting hit and working my instinct to hold onto my stick, I dunno. For the most part I'm just lazy and don't feel like putting them on plus I don't want to break my hand if they do get stuck and I fall on them.

what the fuck? even pro fall like fucking idiots when they are trying new shit. But yeah i'm sure that when you try a new trick you always stomp it and win every comps.... idiot

i use them because i dont ski trees that much because upstate NY sucks for glades, and they same me so much from when i drop them

powder/groomers- straps on

park- shorter poles and straps on losely

tight trees - straps off

thats what I do usually

If the trees are this tight, you won't be moving so fast anyhow, and normally if you actually know what you're doing with your poles, it should never happen. Besides, I worry about much more likely to happen injuries. A few times it HAS happened but so long your straps aren't too tight, your hands will slide out/glove will get pulled off before your shoulder dislocates. But to each his own. I just keep it old school the way I've always done. It's also the reason you should use your straps properly (strap is grabbed between pole and palm).
