I wear a self-crocheted hat and a helmet without the liner in it. Goggles under the helmet as well. The helmet actually fits me better this way because the original liner was a bit too thin. As for sliding around, get a hat/liner/complete helmet that fits you right! If its simply sliding back a bit, you can shortenen the forward-most strap and simply feed the slack through the buckle system.

my hair, goggles over my helmet and a yowie around my neck. helmets are pretty warm and comfortable for the most part if you get the correct size. I've never had my head or ears cold at all with just a helmet
