What do you use to keep your skis still while waxing?

I'm looking for something to hold them still while scraping. I don't want to buy a $100+ ski clamp set, is there any way I can use a regular vise or clamps to hold them still?

Thanks

real ski vices are super nice and make waxing easier and more enjoyable, but you can ghetto rig something.

a normal vice in the middle with something to support the tips/tail is all you need

Sawhorses..... You can prolly steal some scrap wood from a construction site to make one or pay the $14 youself for all the materials. They arent rocket surgery to make and your skis arent going anywhere. Cant justify spending $150 for some alright overpriced vises.

2x6, a bit of foam, clamp from Home Depot. Multipurpose ski station that I can secure a ski quickly to - ski vices are way too expensive and take too long to work.

My kitchen table is 1.25 inches thick.

I clamp down my bidings over the kitchten table with my ski upside down.

This keeps the brakes down and creates a stable place to wax and it's entirely free, assuming your ski has bindings.

I used it once and it kind of gouged by base beside the area I was working on, so sticking with a panzer file from now on.

i don't even need to keep my brakes down. a snowboarder landed on me and my brakes don't even work any more. i have to fix them.

I just rest them upside down (or use some blocks if I have some lying around...sometimes they get taken from me) and I use rubber bands to hold the brakes up. No need to get fancy.

I'm not ballsy enough to use that thing on the base, but I use it all the tip for cleaning up chipped topsheets, mounting... love it.

im in a dorm at uni, no space, no money. here is my ultra high end waxing system. it works. also, I just have my boot clipped into the binding while its upside down.

I would look for a higher end set up if you where racing, but for just having fun in the park/pow/runs its great.

My RA pitched a fit over hot wax in the carpet in my dorm, I moved my operation to the parking garage when I was a freshman.

I usually just walk around my basement and grab two boxes with similar heights to rest each end of the ski on. Then rubber bands to hold the brakes down.
