What do you use to be safe

What do you use to be safe? I use new braces cuz I sprained right new 3 times and left 2 times. And a back brace cuz I compressed fractured my back twice or whatever the doctors told me. And my wear a cup which so so wimpy. But if I want to get better at rails I need some peace of mind first. Also as normal helmet and for big free ride stuff and cliffs etc maybe will wear a mouth guard. I know that all sounds wimpy. But some stuff I have to do some stuff is a choice so I can comfortably progress minimizing time off of skis.

Good, well maintained gear goes a long way for safety. Having the proper skills and maintaining some fitness is the other big safety aspect.

Having all that bubble wrap wont help you for safety. Use your head, progression and practice is a good quote to remember. Assess your risks and plan accordingly.

helmets are sick, keep in mind tho they arent preventing concussions, only skull fractures. dont let anyone tell you if something is wimpy or not, back protectors hip protectors etc can be super usefull to help progress in skiing but you shouldnt rely on them. moreso as a pre caution just in case you know. mouth guards can help prevent concussions and protect your teeth so its a worthwhile investment imo

used to wear padded impact compression shorts under my pants when I skied pipe. I have wide bony hips and it still didn't feel great slamming into the wall but better than slamming onto ice without it. Should probably look into a brace for my left knee because it just hasn't stopped bothering me for a few years now.

Ya I agree. I also think fitness. I already hit the gym for lax and performance coach. But building muscle around knees and hips and pretty much anywhere and flexibility are like the best things to do for yourself.

I agree, building up hamstrings and quads will help prevent knee injury. Even so, i still wear an knee brace cuz it still feels fucked from a bad landing on a 360 i did last year.

Bought a new helmet for the first time since middle school so that I guess. Old one would only fit if I wore a trucker hat underneath.

Ya I need new ones. I have like knes you just strap to Velcro and it keeps it in Olaf’s and stable. I need a little nice more comfortable ones that help me feel lighter and move more freely but more protection.

As someone who royally fucked up their teeth mountain biking I fully support using a mouth guard. Remember, you dont have to hit anything to bust your teeth. If you hit your head hard your teeth will clamp together hard enough to shatter them which happened to me.

Yea mouth guard mountain biking is critical. Dental work is horrible and expensive. Also having teeth is great

It was bad. I basically landed a step down on my head still attached to my bike riding clipless pedals. It shattered my front tooth, took a chunk out of my other front tooth, broke the tops off all my front bottom teeth (My metal permeant retainer thing saved the bottoms) and killed my other front side tooth resulting in a root canal. It took over 4 hours and like 10+ Novocain shots and they had to grind my teeth into points and put on caps. I had to work a shift at Quiznos with my teeth fucked up too and my broken tooth made it whistle when I talked. It sucked so hard. You dont realize how much people judge the shit out of you until you have to work food service with messed up teeth.

Even to this day if I get a bad cold or something it makes my teeth really hurt because the pressure from my sinuses goes into my teeth and the caps dont expand so the pressure hurts pretty bad.

So PSA- a mouth guard is always worth it.

if your crashing that much, do alot of video analysis and watch ur technique. you dont want to be blindly trying the same shit over and over and over with the same bad technique.

Holy fuck. This is good motivation to always pop it in.

I don’t crash often. Ya know I fall do tricks and stuff etc. nothing huge the last one k can remember is I was flying through some moguls ya know fast, jumping to each one and it was a little flag light and just didn’t see one but I felt it let me tell you I felt it. And then next thing I know I’m down the mountain no skis, kk the ground wind knots led out of me. Ya that’s the last big one I just try to be proactive on not getting injured lol
