What do you hate about Bozeman?

I suppose it's time I start deciding what Colleges I want to check out, and I've heard nothing but mixed messages about Bozeman. Some love it, others hate it, but I have a hard time getting details about what you all hate?

So, what do you hate about Bozeman?

ummm nothing. great skiing, great people, great college. what else could you want?
if somebody is looking to hate something, they will always manage to hate it.

i hate the traffic first and foremost. granted i live in rinky dink big sky, but i cant fucking handle driving around bozeman. the lights are all out of sync, theres a million cars, everyone sucks at driving, it BLOWS. i pretty much hate a lot of bridger bowl skiers, the ones who cry about how "corporate" big sky is, and blather on about how "soul" bridger is. i hate that everyone and their mother drives a subie and has 3 labs and wears a puffy coat year round. i hate the suburban sprawl. the town has grown exponentially in the 6 or so years i have been in the area. shitty little cookie cutter houses stretching as far as the eye can see. um. what else? that might be about it.

Its funny because you just said you hate bridger whining about Pig Sty being corporate then you complained about the suburban sprawl like its not the exact same thing.
It is seriously hard to find people to hit the BC with. My biggest complaint.

Hahahahahha. Sorry I understand how Bozeman seems bad, if youve lived in Montana your whole life. But coming out here from Chicago "traffic" is like waiting at a few stoplights.

I've lived in Montana my whole life and it still baffles me how people can possibly complain about the traffic we do not have here.

my response was mostly tongue in cheek. there is a lot more stuff i love about bozeman than stuff i might not like. it just does seem a little hectic coming from big sky. and those ridge hippes- P.U.!!! ; )

There is a reason they call it Brozeman, Mantana. So if you're a dude, it must suck. Sorry. Skiing is great, the people are great, Secondwind Sports has North Faces for like 10 bucks. The cafeteria, affectionately dubbed "the shwag" blows hardcore, but eh, what can you do. Oh and the ducks try to get into the dorms during the winter

No, its called BOOZEman MANtana. If you live here, there are no chicks, so you drink a lot, so the chicks who do visit don't like it, so they don't stay... Its a self replicating cycle.

Haha, I like boozeman better than brozeman. Oh, and if you're gonna try and get any dorm, try to get Roskie. Its a shitshow, but the awesome kind. you can stand outside of it with your ski gear and look all pathetic and chances are, someone will give you a ride to the mountain.

Gotta say though, being a chick in bozo is pretty damn awesome. Ahahahaha

a vast majority of chicks in bozeman end up looking like swiss cheese after a semester or two down here, must be awesome

Worst part is the girls. There are some hotties, but most look like shit compared to what im used too. That said it doesnt even matter cause youll be to tired from shreding hard everyday and doing some school work to get by.

If your thinking montana go to Univ Of Montana. they may have closer skiing but there school sucks. their campus is just like depressing walking around. The guy to girl ratio sucks also, while i visited there kids were just a bunch of hicks acting like they were the shit.

I think the traffic depends on your route. I had an 11 mile drive to campus, and there were a few times it took 45 minutes. That's pretty crappy. The biggest issue is that all cars going into and out of Bozeman must pass through one of two intersections. I live in Seattle now, and I won't lie and say its better, but there are times of day when 12 miles takes you 15 minutes, others when it takes you an hour.

MSU, what to say. I can't really bad mouth it. I got a degree and a good job ... that was the plan. The College of Engineering had a few, er several, down years, but I believe they are on the rebound. And some large companies, like Boeing, still have a lot of MSU alums. I found that is an important aspect in your future success. Its reasonably priced, or was at least. I think those tuition increases were getting pretty ridiculous. I never lived in the dorms, so I can't help you out there. But make a lot of friends, knowing people that go to house parties is key until you're 21. Also, the guy/girl ratio, or guy/hot girl ratio is pretty dismal. Be prepared for some mistakes of desperation.

Bridger was starting to get waaaaaaaaay too overcrowded when I left. When I was in high school, they only had half the parking lots they do know. Having Shlasman's open now made a big difference, the couple times I've been back. I recall powder days when the Ridge would be completely tracked by 10. I might have skied Big Sky more, but the drive was a bit much and all my friends wanted to ski Bridger. Also, I'm scared of the militant a-hole "locals" at Big Sky. I can't stand those jackasses that moved to Big Sky a couple years ago and now think they own the place.

I lived in there from age 4 to age 22. By the end the only thing I liked was my friends. It can be a fun place for a few years, but that long of a time there just wasn't for me. I was bored by the end. I was sick of the Californians and Sierra Club coming in and telling us how to live. I was sick of the overcrowding of a city, but not having the amenities to make up for it. I was sick of bumping into people I knew but didn't want to talk to, everywhere I went. I was sick of the hicks, hippies and white trash.

Your mileage may vary, but I was ready to get out of there. That being said, I like visiting Bozeman now.

your problem was not moving out of bozeman after graduating highschool.....of course you would get bored with seeing people that you grew up with

Chill out dude, not everyone has to hate the place they grew up in. If you're really that bitter, branch out a bit and make new friends.

i'd say the "locals" at bridger are way more dickholeish than the ones at big sky, but regardless of where you go theres always going to be the dude that has lived there only a year or two who feels a sense of entitlement to "his" mountain and you have to obey by his rules.

Fair enough. Maybe I didn't notice them because I was one, haha. I just felt so unwelcome every time I rode up the tram at the Sky. I went there once my last year of college, after having not been there for about 5 years … and man it had changed a lot. But you're right, they are everywhere. I fear I'm kind of becoming "that guy" at my new mountain. But I ride with guys that have been here for years, so it's cool right?
I realize it was a very bitter post. And to the guy about not moving after high school. I agree. I had a lot of very close friends from high school though, that stayed in town and went to MSU. So like I said, I miss my having all my friends together. I did branch out. Lived in MN for a year and a few summers. Maybe seeing what else the world had to offer made more eager to get out. But hey life is good, and living in Bozeman was part of my path to where I am now, so I can't be too resentful.
To the OP, if you go to Bozeman, make the most out of the outdoorsy things. So few places have so many incredible outdoor things to do so closely. Ski all winter and float the rivers, play baseball and MTB in the summers. You'll keep yourself busy enough to not notice the lack of chicks … haha.

wow. i was just thinking about this the other day. seriously, whats up with that? Vanns is a poor excuse for a best buy.

There definitely is way too many women in brozeman.....but if you're into date rape and frat parties, it may be your own private heaven.
