What do you find interesting in the world and why?

The most interesting thing in the world is definitly other people, i love jus listening to conversations or goin to the mall and jus watch people do the daily stuff...it seems boring but is amazingly interesting for me.

i love to travel and experience new cultures, i am honestly fascinated by almost anything, i will look at something and i figure out how it works, made ect. but so many things in this world fascinate me, i could never fit them all into one post..

Are there any particular aspects, theories, or patterns you guys enjoy following when observing people/cultures? Like overiding themes you notice and try to explore?

I'm into details :)

^^ Yeah, agreed people are weird as shit.
For example; Last week I found a magazine at the gym that was called "Tea Time" It's a magazine completely devoted to anything about tea; tea sets, tea bags

both things listed are really interesting, but i find it fun to look at more philisophical aspects of the human mind. i have theories and such on what influences peoples actions, not just day to day but also on why they are who they are. i wont go into detail, because it would take me days to explain.

I also enjoy looking at art, such as abstract and any kind of music, and also apply the human phsic into them to just see what people were thinking when they drew/wrote these things.

I enjoy reading about on memory storage with the brain and how our through processes are broken down.

what interests you about it?

I find many things in nature to be interesting. Just about all of it to some extent, but more specifically like patterns or artistic looking natural growth, or things formed or destroyed by natures awesome various powers.

Writing and seeing what happens. Half the time, I didn't even know that shit was in there! Its a great way to get to see yourself.

I'll have to agree absolutely with discovering other cultures and exploring and learning about them. I can't of course speak for 100% of the people on this website but for the most part as North Americans, Australians, or Kiwis we live in societies which are fairly homogeneous and similar if not the same from one end of the country to another. Contrast Europe, Asia and Africa where travelling the same distance from Boulder CO to say Detroit will plant you in an entirely different culture, language, point of view and way of life.

With an open mind, a taste for new experiances, and a general love of discovery, there are countless lessons to be learned about other peoples in this world who aren't American, Canadian, etc; who aren't English speakers and don't share the same views as you. Its very easy (and for new travellers) very enlightening, to open your mind and immerse yourself, if only for a little while in a cuture other than your own.

I have a thirst for knowledge and a taste for philosophy which can only come from experiencing diversity understanding, and explaining other points of view. Its so crucial in my opinion to travel and experience other cultures while we're still young and our opinions and points of view are still malleable. We have only to gain from the opportunity.

Our biggest hubris here in the west is imagining the world as a body politically and ideologically attatched to ours. Sure we have a catchy and contageous pop-culture and speak the international language of business, but thats in no way reason to assume superiority or arrogance. We're the part of the world stuck between two oceans and out of the way. On either side of us are cultures and experiences which even I still can't wait to break into and discover. We belong as PART of an international community and as a result I feel that discovery of our peers and neighbors worldwide with whom we as adults will be doing business and will be joined with through an ever expanding network of communications will not only make you a wiser person, but a more enlightened one.

TRAVEL! :)

are you studying anthropology or something haha.

im interested (which follows my area of study) in what attacts people to people. what evolutiionary aspects combined with social and cultural influences lead someone to be attracted to others. what are the roles of the genders in courting, dating and attracting etc....

dope shit.

Evolution, what we do and do not know about it. I love hearing about new archaeological discoveries and new links in the evolutionary chain.

ie. The Coelacanth fish lineage was supposed to be extinct, they date back to 410 million years ago and then bam in the 1930's one is caught in south Africa.I find those types of discoveries interesting and almost exciting.

The natural world. It's crazy how much else is out there other than just us. Theres nothing like exploring a completely new place.

the sea. its so big and deep, that we have no clue what other animals can be at the bottom. like some parts of the sea floor have been untouched for thousands of years. like look what they found off the coast of japan!

The weather. I love how diverse it can be nice on day very bad the next. I love how here it can be sunny and just an hour away it can be raining.

Art/Visual culture because it is so amazing to see how creative people are. Also it can manipulate people on a psychological level.

Skiing of course, and urban rails:where do they all come from??? who makes them???

different languages because it's cool to know that you can be saying the same thing with different sounds.

I was in downtown boston first semester, and every day walking to class or around I just marveled at all the people. So many different styles, races, attitudes, everything just made me smile at the big picture of it all. I would always do my homework between classes at the borders at downtown crossing which has a huge glass front where you could see a big intersection and little park. I often just found my self watching the bums, cops, random people ect interacting. Just really interesting to me, idk. (Im not some creepy lurker hahaha) Note- I am home in a smaller city and it drives me nuts how quiet things are here. I really need to be back in a city.

Nature. Holy shit is this incredible. Just watching planet earth and learning about all the little things each species needs in order to survive and how well nature is synchronized to provide. So incredible to me.

yes i love that! and peoples facial expressions. i just look at people sometimes and their faces amaze me.

Sub-cultures & Divisions of social class - i.e at my university, there would be probably 5 distinct groups of social classes - it's interesting to observe the differences in how different groups act, where their values lie etc..then you wonder where these values/attitudes come from in the first place.

YEAH! Cliques fascinate me! It's crazy to watch how openly a person who was "emo" would react to another "emo" they've never met before, but when they talk to a "prep" it's a whole new story.

Also, social interraction fascinates me. For example when I went to France, the silent body language when I was just walking around was immensely different from what I've experienced here in the U.S.

There, there would be eye contact all the time when a girl was interested, and it's often nothing like that here.

Animals are pretty interesting because they are pretty smart and their naturaul intinsts are sick. I like watching other people too for soem reason its just funny to so how other people react to certain things.

The ocean. Scientists know more about space than the ocean. Every time I go down to the keys I can snorkel for hours on end, I find it just so amazing. Dolphins are so smart. I had a dolphin come up to me once and started to bump into me and my board. I was so shocked that an animal with no contact with humans can't be scared.

ancient cultes and shit, historical stuff fom way back in the day. its really intersting what happened because of sacred religions and stuff that started, and theories that people had because of it.

yeah that shit..pretty crazy - it's obviously inherited from somewhere but even in business, applying theory or even taking a business internationally, adapting to culture is vital - otherwise things just don't work. A classical example is Japan v. the US - even at an elementary level Geert Hofstede had a model of cultural dimensions which looked at masulinity/femininity, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism/collectivism and time orientation

The differences between the two countries is phenomenal - if you act the same in Japan as you would in the US, the entire process would crumble.

Agreed.

In grade 8 everyone used to watch the office building beside our school. We called it "Office Reality" and just watched them, it was a little big brother-ish but fun. We had characters and everything it was pretty cool.

i guess you could call it social deviance but im really interested in serial killers and stuff that goes on in prisons. maybe im just a sketchball.

theres too many interesting things in life no dough like wether or not aliens exist and whats really out there in the universe but i think its interesting thinking about the future how will we end up, life after death, theories and thoughts shared by people of what is ahead of us, i made a thread about it for those in the ns thinkers thread heres the link

https://newschoolers.com/web/forums/readthread/thread_id/355217/

i like learning about how america has become so far in to the future with all the gismos and gadgets we have out today. Like how we can use this or that to try and keep the world clean and safe. and the world is coming out with all these things that make the world easier for us people . Like future weapons for instance, shows us how up to date we are with weapons and stuff. The world i self keeps me interested day by day.

driving home this morning high i found myself listening to talib kweli, and he spits "we survivalist turned to consumers". so i start thinking about how human beings at one point struggled to survive. Now we have become so good at it (surviving), that we are overpopulating the planet at a crazy rate, and just consuming everything. And then i started to think about how everything we have in our lifes was the product of someones desire. Like someone just though of an easy mode of transportation, and cars came about after some work. Or like easy fire = lighters. We have taken every small challenge in our daily lifes and made something to make it easier. So I would say that besides nature, everything on this planet is a product of mans desire. Granted, alot of things around today are extremely usefull, and probably some of them necesarry, but we really need to think about overdoing it. And then i got home, and proceeded to run the the bathroom and forget about the whole thing untill right now. nicely done

Computers. All a computer can understand is yes or no. Its incredible how something that simple gives us the computers we have today. I like finding out how everything works. Its crazy to think how many hours of development went into something as simple as moving your mouse.

the supernatural. it's kind of cheesy but I love watching videos and ghost shows. I am still skeptical on the whole idea of the devil/evil and stuff but I am fascinated with ghosts, because there's just so much evidence on both sides or real or fake. the way people descrbie their encounters and stories are amazing to , I could read peoples encounters all day

MUSIC. every aspect of it. I like the beats and the singing yeah , but really i like to listen to the point the person is trying to get across , how one thing could represent another or their pont of view. I like to think about the situation a person was in when they wrote the song , what made them do it? where were they , how were they feeling?

I have two things I really enjoy in this world.

1.) Walking - For me it allows me to slow down and think about how small everything is but put everything together and it works.

2.) The Earth - Right now I am in an Astronomy class and it really is interesting to hear about everthing that makes up the universe and how big it is. To this day this class has taught me the most about the world we live in. And while I might not use all this information I am learning it is really cool to have.

People are also fun to watch and to think about. What are they doing, why are they doing that, and so on.

science and the chemical breakdown of everything(confuses me ) its interesting and odd to look at a water and think that it is made up of hyrdrogen and oxygen

i like cultures to and people

and umm skiing more than any of the above but they combine all of them --- different types of people such as racers, freeskiers, GAPERS --- molecular breakdown of skis -

everything. how we got to where we are in society today. Its just crazy to think alllllll this shit got built by people over the years and what not. think about the next time you take a road trip. think how many hundreds of km you drive and people had to make that road.
