What do you drive?

For those of us who don't live within walking distance of a lift, what do you drive to the mountain? Or probably more appropriate to this forum what does mom drive when she takes you to the ski hill?

I have a 2017 Tacoma double cab "work truck" with a bed top mount for the yakima skybox 12 for bad weather and a 2017 vw alltrack "family hauler" with the yakima box on the roof for spring days or when the forecast is clear for the duration of the trip, usually a long weekend in Tahoe. Alltrack pulls about 15mpg better than the Taco on highway trips which, from the bay area to Tahoe, the difference will buy us lunch.

I've driven in some horrific storms chained up in my old dodge neon which ruled in the snow, and a friends clapped out ford astro which sucked, and many cars in between.

I've been driving since a good portion of you were born.

Same, 2001 and it's probably on it's last legs, 188k and has just about no power anymore, the hilly drives to Vermont will suck this season.

F-350 4x4 on 38's for me

Excursion 4x4 on 35 for the wife

If we get stuck it's because we were driving like dumb asses and deserved it. Hasn't happened yet.

Okay so we don't get any snow over here in the UK, but at least we've got cooler cars than you boys.

Renault Clio 172

Running near 200bhp in a car weighing about 800kg (1763.7lb), it's a little rocket.

I hate that the US gets shitty "hot" hatches that are just family wagons, we need more 2 door hatches. Very nice Renault though.

1993 Toyota 4Runner with 375000 on the clock and has no heat or ac. think its the blower motor so I should probably fix that before winter

07 hawkeye STI. Lots of carbon fiber. TE37s. Stoptech ST40 BBKs. Fortune Auto 500s. More stuff but whatever it's a thing.

I bike... jk. But with that said I'm tempted to try it if I can figure out a way to carry my skis on my bike (anyone got knowledge?) Spirit Mountain would be about 12 miles one way on city streets for me so it's doable. Then another spot Chester Bowl is under a mile from my house and I will totally bike there this winter once, maybe thrice.

Backpack+a frame ski carry.

2001 Buick Regal, features include rear window that doesn't work, brakes that usually work, and a perma-stank ass trunk from lugging hockey/ski gear.

Gotta be in one of those massive 8 passenger Chevy vans, packed full... Plenty of room for skis in the back and under the rear bench seat. Traction control and snow tires... Plus when its that full, gas split 8 ways is easy on the wallet.

2006 Forester 5 speed. Han an 02 before that. Love the car. That said if I get one much newer ever I think I'm going to switch to the outbacks. Hate the old ones, love the new ones. Love the older foresters but hate the new ones.

My 02 got around 28.5. My 06 is closer to 26 but still pretty good gas mileage considering it's always full of shit. Could never own a truck or too new of a car the way I drive though. Just put 95k between my cars in 2 and a half year, and was out of the country for 9 months of that.

1996 Subaru Legacy wagon

My joy, bought for 500 and fixed er up for around 3000 in total. I'll hopefully post pics once I get home, don't have many good ones though

Evo x with just under 400 whp

Custom paint job, carbon fiber front lip and diffuser, coilovers, bigger brembo's etc

1980 Mercedes 300td. Bought it from a local legend who was switching over to a sprinter full time. Might be a lil slow, but she'll go anywhere in style. Plus, you can't beat that as a first car (guess that's a matter of preference tho:).

2012 subaru wrx hatchback with a rocketbox or a 2001 chevy suburban if the snows getting deep

Had a 2010, great car, much fun was had by all. I never had a chance to drive it in more than a dusting of snow. Traded it in when we had our second kid, needed an extra foot in the hatch area and it would have been perfect. We need the Levorg, the outback is too big and whalelike and the wrx is a little too small.

05 golf TDI 50MPG really can't beat it.

Dealt with the buyback on our 2015 TDI sportwagen and ended up in an 2017 Alltrack basically for free, same payment as the TDI and we have awd and a car two years newer. The diesel torque and mpg are nice though! Was your golf not up for the buyback?

05 Honda Pilot

Underrated car for sure. Good AWD/4WD (gets me around tahoe great), massive cargo space, can fit up to 8 people, and easily 5/6 people with all their gear, super reliable (almost to 120xxx with absolutely 0 issues knock on wood and no indicators of things to come), decent enough gas milage, decent enough clearance and surprising offroad ability, Super cheap to fix when/if things go wrong, cheap to buy.

also duncan that hawkeye just keeps getting sexier.

Come visit and I'll come take you for rides and to 1320 cruises in Denver. Had a 1000 cars all trying cram in to a parking lot last time and the police had a meltdown haha.

Also your pilot is functional as hell, we fit so much crap in the back of that haha

Living that 1999 Civic life, usually only gets stuck about every 10 feet. Exactly why I ride the bus to the mountain every day. Most likely will get a stage 2 STI in the future though.
