What do pros make???

Anyone have any idea what the pros make? Keep in mind they make the vast amount of their money from non-public sponsorships not the public five and ten thousand dollar contest purses.

in the latest issue of skiing there was a pretty good article on this. and jon is the highest paid, dumont second. it also said dumont made well over 200,000 last year. granted, i think 130 of that was in contest winnings.

search bar. there are hundreds of posts about this. most of the stuff you are going to hear comes from kids who have no idea what they are talking about though.

not most of them.

There are a lot that do, but I would say the moajority of pro skiers are living pretty cheap.

Like any business, people who are high up (Tanner and Simon) will make more. Also, its the same with female skiers, again like business, females skiers make less then males skiers. So, some female skiers actually have to do some real work (not saying skiing isnt real work). That also goes for some of the pros that are not as well known, they end up on the off season working construction...., I would have to guess from that Simon and Tanner make close to a half million a year. But that is just a guess, thinking about who they are sposored by, how much they make for a comp...

i believe jon makes tons because he has european sponsers that no one else has and are loaded. did dumont mine every stop of the ski tour and the overall? cuz thats like 125 grand. then a couple of silvers here and there, he is easily making 150 on comps. then hes also sponsered by oakley, salomon, and oakley which are all blue chip sponsers. hes gotta make like 300 grand plus, but i dunno

lol, you must be mislead.  Simon, Jon, Seth, Tanner, Peter and a SELECT few others make what it takes to survive 'pretty damn well' as you put it.  The others live off of their parents, credit cards, and second jobs.  Alot of the pro skiers I know work their ass off all summer to ski all winter.  Repeat.

skiing magazine is full of shit.... Candide makes the most then Jon, then Dumont then tanner, tanner would make more but he on armada not salomon

some pros like jon, simon, tanner, candide, and some others make lots of money, close to the millons. most pros barely make any money, like less then 50 grand a year.

If I was a pro skier I probably wouldn't care how much I got paided as long as I got to ski year round in the best conditions and at the best locations.

i dont believe that at all. dumont is way bigger than candide and jon doesnt even have an outerwear spancor.

Well I dont know everything but I do know that Seth has a sweet home and a nice dode ram. Also, i heard in the wind that Simon is the highest paid skier at the moment. That came from someone that is very credable.

at high north jp told us that if money means something to you, skiings not for you. you dont make much money and you dont ever have time to spend it. most pro skiers are rarely even at home.

your a crak head .... Jon signed with Cross like 2 months ago for 6 years... and candide makes 500 thousand euros a year from just Rossi add that to Quik and his movie company please fool; dumont bigger than candide..... hahaha just casue hes sponsored by some multinational corp dont mean shit...CAndide is a god in europe.. has more x games medals and is a beter skier than dumont... tehre fore makes more money skiing in europe is way bigger in the main stream market than in North america

People fail to realize jon olson is not fucking loaded because of skiing. He invested a majority of his ski earnings and it paid out tenfold. He is also a far bigger celebrity over seas as opposed to any skier in the states.

But think of this:

Pros who get paid to ski it is their passion. They live with each other in a ghetto apartment, or if their families are rich they prolly live on trust funds. They get free gear and just enough money for food and alotta beer. They drive their old jimmy to the slopes, then ski all day. In the summer, they ive at mt hood and rake in the cash. Pretty simple.

Alright.. Jon lives in Monaco which is pretty much one of the most expensive places in the world to live. He owns a Gallardo, and an Ultima GTR, which means that he has a half million dollars in cars alone. In order to have a half million dollars in cars... you clearly have to be making a lot more than that a year. And Jon is no dummy so he clearly isnt going to spend every cent he makes.

I know for a fact that three years ago Simon was making 300,000 grand a year, and since then he has signed with target, and now has his own pro model ski. So the top few guys are making some pretty decent money... I would venture to guess that Jon with sponsors and winnings is making over a million dollars a year. Candide Simon and Tanner are probably making between 500 and 700 a year... a few others are making a 100 or 200 a year... and everyone else is making peanuts. The vast majority of pro skiers make just enough to get by.

Yeah someone who has all that is going to be worth at least several million. But I wonder how much of it he actually made. The thing is is skiing is a rich person's sport. If your family provided you with some decent skiing growing up (certainly if they could provide you with enough skiing that you became a star) then chances are your family is probably doing pretty well. And some of these kids come from very rich families. So I wonder if there is any trust fund shit involved with a lot of these well off pros.

Are you kidding me? Not many people get 6-year contracts, whatever sport they're in. Jon signed with Cross Sportswear for 6 years dude...

And also, I'd have to say that whoever said they make just over 200 000 might be misinformed. You wouldn't buy a Lambo if you were earning 200 G's... they cost like 150 000+ new. And he also paid for accommodation and parties for most of the freeskiing world's athletes, not to mention the whole JOI event itself.

i know jon makes bank. i was just relaying what that article in skiing magazine said...that dumont made over 200,000 last year. i'm sure jon makes way more than that.

I'm surprised any company would risk a 6 year contract with anyone in this sport. I mean many times every day these guys go out and do stuff that almost permenantly ends their career. I think a 6 year contract is fairly low risk in a sport like golf, baseball, or even basketball but freeskiing is a pretty risky sport to be committing 6 years to someone.

As do a lot of pros... work their asses off during the summer. Sammy even had last year of highschool to finish

The thing is no one really knows for sure, apart from them themselves.

But i mean, Jon drives a lamborghini and have you seen Tanner's house in the freeskier podcast? Its pretty damn nice. These guys are like top of freeskiing though, so unless you're them, it's gonna be difficult to make a comfortable living out of skiing.....i think anyway

Also Abma and Burke make alot because winning ESPYs and owning companies comes with big endorsements and more more money. But honestly, who cares, Id live in a van if I got to ski everyday!

another thing with the pros and all their sponsors they dont have to pay for there gear, and im sure get free clothes and shoes, thats a big chunk of change right there that we commoners have to pay

Straight from skiing magazine: Jon is the most well paid freeskier. he make just more than 200k a year, simon is second, he also makes that much.

im pretty sure 130,000 of that 200,000 was not from contest winnings. because depending on the type of sponsorship i think for every contest you win your sponsors will also pay you a certain perentage of the amount you won, unless if you included that in the 130,000.

Btw, I wanted to know so that I could know how jealous of them I should be. It would have made me feel much better if I knew these guys had to give out handjobs on the street corner all summer long in order to ski all winter but I guess I'm not that lucky.

Who really cares? Its great that they get paid and can live off the money they get. Just look at rollerblading, they don't make shit so they have to work another job or just be shit poor.
